The counting game

8104

just had to post a little news flash: eschalon book II is scheduled for 2009, and there also going to be a book III. book II has a little sim element, being hunger and thirst. climate and weather is now also implemented.

<i>Yes you do have a future as a salesman. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Thanks for the heads up about the quests. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Any patches come out for this game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Yeah, I was reading the history on Wikipedia and saw that this was supposed to be the first book out of three and I saw on another site that deal about the second coming out next year. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /></i>

8106

haven't yet found any patches. haven't looked either. the problems no big deal once you've found them.

this isn't fair! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> my rogue has specialized in light armour and all of a sudden i find all this really good heavy armour. schnoogins. and yes, i've finished the game. some very interesting psychological twists here and there. i need to flip a mental switch though: i should be fighting by night, not by day. rogues have skills that are best used during the night, if you can combine it with a little magic, of course. 'cat's eyes' or 'predator eyes' is great for combining with stealth and ranged attacks.

8107

<i>Can you sell off any armor you find? You just started another game, right? As the rogue?</i>

8108

sure, you can sell anything. except important stuff, of course, but you get warnings from the shopkeepers about that. i'm indeed creating a rogue character, still creating since it takes time to get some decent skills. i can hide near walls and trees in the night now though, and walk relatively silently. my previous character made the sound of an armory during an earthquake. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> i'm trying to get my 'move silently' attribute high enough to walk unheard, and maybe it's possible to hide in shadows during the day as well if you get good enough. next up is learning how to detect and dismantle traps.

i'm still contemplating if i'm going to use a shield or not. shields don't make up a great deal of defence, but with throwing weapons and short bladed weapons, you can keep one hand free at all times. you need both hands for a bow, but if i don't take a shields anyway, i might learn archery. that demon oil is some seriously cool stuff though. the heavier variety is like nitroglicerine. goes off with one heck of a kablooey.

my visits to the cities are actually quite amusing, since the first thing i do is take everything that's not nailed down. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

8109

<i>I'll start tonight and give you an update. Don't know which character class I'll be but I do like the rogue. </i><img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> Demon oil? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

8110

well, it's all up to you if you become a rogue by name or by life. you can, for example, also make a lockpicking, sneaking, low-down paladin if you like. it all depends on what skills you pick. you can also just dump everything in speed and bows to simple avoid melee combat alltogether, but if you screw up then, it goes REALLY bad, since you don't have a final line of defence. my previous character was a ranger. in the end of the game i hardly even used my sword, since i could outrun and kill anything else before it even got close. you will need a little magic though. it helps immensely in giving yourself an easier time later on, but you don't need it from the start.

you could compare demon oil with grenades. neat stuff, and highly spectacular. my rogue is going to use it if i'm specializing in thrown weapons.

8111

Two Worlds doesn't have predefined classes - you can distribute your skill points however you please. It makes for some greatly varied gameplay <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

8112

that's how it works in Eschalon as well, but the class definitions give a bonus to one thing or another.

8114

you're lucky if you find it. it's hard to come by, and pretty expensive if you do. the results, however, are more than worth it. oh, here's some tips for ultimate badassery in the game:

sometimes you just have to show off. for example, some gates close when you hit a switch. try doing that with someone underneath the gate. to top it off, shoot the switch with a ranged weapon to flick it that way.

keep an eye out for gunpowder. if you hit a barrel, it will explode, with all the brutal results imaginable. it can be a very good ally in battle.

save up potions. invisibility can be downright wicked if you time it right, especially in combination with 'haste'.

know your enemies. some foes hunt by other means than sight or sound. use this to your advantage.

8115

<i>Thanks. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I hope the manual downloaded with the game.</i>

8117

<i>No? Self explanatory. You don't need to know how to use stuff? What keys to press? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> What certain things do? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /></i>

8118

oh, you get a short message when you start a new game in the message box. F3 is for any help you'll need, and other things just get handed to you along the way. it's a very simple game, really. all items also have layovers when you move the mouse over them which tell you what they are and what they do.

8119

Ok, I'm almost tired here. Man, if you knew what <!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->I<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--> did today. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

Allright, I tell ya what I did. I played X-COM Terror From The Deep. First of all I found out that there's a alien base at north pole while me Manta figther-sub (can fly out of the water too) flew past it and was chasing a bloody darned fast small Lobster Men USO which swooshed away before my Manta could catch it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Then I had to send the Hammerhead (small X-COM team transport) to attack that alien base with my men, appearantly I only had two persons onboard that transport (second person was used to carry a thing what tells you about your opponent stats).

And guess what? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> I cleared out the whole alien base on seafloor with ONE friggin' man! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> That was just crazy! I made some <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0072.png" target="_blank">Aquatoid</a> and <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0078.png" target="_blank">Tasoth</a> squad leaders or a commander or two unconscious with a <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0037.png" target="_blank">penis thing</a> (<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />) to capture them and then I also shot some soldiers, squad leaders and <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0086.png" target="_blank">Tentaculats</a> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> (those things kill you instantly when they get near you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" />). And that's not all.. then there were some wierd jellyfish like <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0090.png" target="_blank">things</a> shot about four of them down and penis-tazered <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> one of that jelly-monsters to capture it. And I went through all that sh*t with
ONE MAN! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> Was hard but fun. Oh and my guy got hit many times because of me trying to penis-tazer aliens with him <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> thanks to the armor he wore blocked most of the hits those aliens shot at him. I have to admit that he was almost dead. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

So finally when I cleared the base section on the sea floor I found out that there were some Tasoth soldiers left to kill who were all crazed out and panicing around outside the base. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Killed 'em all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> (Mwuhahaha!)

And when I finished the map/mission I thought that was all but no.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I HAD TO CLEAR OUT THE FRIGGIN' UNDERGROUND SECTION OF THE BLOODY BASE! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" /> Which had about 100 rooms in it. I was like "WTF?". My second fella I had to command got killed at start of that underground base mission by some <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0076.png" target="_blank">Lobster Man</a>. I searched for the aliens all over the corridors around the base until I found them in a upper corner part of the base.
I had to deal with Lobster Men and.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> Tentaculats both were an a** to get them killed because I didn't had any ammo left for me <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0042.png" target="_blank">Sonic Cannon</a> (dropped it) and only weapon I had with ammo was this <a href="http://www.xcomufo.com/usopaedia/pics/big/shot0050.png" target="_blank">shok bomb launcher</a> which doesn't kill and my guy was still wounded and barely had health left. Later when I got Sonic Cannon with ammo I went to killing some more lobsters and brains with tentacles. I had my guy killed many times and then I had to reload the game. And finally after all that hell I found out that I just have to destroy a thing at the control centre (and abort) and destroyed it and then did some more search in the base and then I found out that the lobsters I shot with that shok bomb launcher earlier were awake again! ARRGH! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> tryed to kill them but failed because they were somehow harder to kill than earlier <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" /> so I reloaded the game at a place where I encountered those lobsters and made Lobster Man Navigator and Commander unconscious and took them into my guy's inventory for capture (I have to put them in invetory if I want to capture something while aborting) and made few other lobsters unconscious to get Sonic Cannon with some ammo and went to kill lobsters and brains with tentacles again but got tired and went to destroy the control thingy and ran to the entrance/lift of the base and aborted. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Thankfully I got all the weapons, dead aliens and all my captured aliens from that bloody alien base. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

o...kay. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

maybe i'll go back to playing PotC for a little bit. if i don't get swamped by crashes you can expect an entry.

<i>I'm a magick user. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> </i>

8123

ooh. how's that working out? i haven't really explored that part of gameplay yet.

funny though that i'm used to seeing that spelled with a C, but lately i keep seeing it with CK.
