Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

Makes it funny to see Jack say King of the Sea mate. Imao. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I can completely see him saying that line.

Anyways, i figured its the least i can do seeing how little i have done to help lately... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

You've been one of the driving forces behind the script, Mercer, so you shouldn't feel like you aren't contributing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> I do like the Jack speak you added, the "King of the Sea" line and "Your highness" as well. Maybe we could put the Poseidon reference in somewhere else. It just looks awkward attached to that one line.

Well, you and Pieter have up until now, been basically going along well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I have added a small thought or two, but i havent had the time to actually toy with the script. I just thought everyone would be disappointed if i didnt do SOMETHING, so i did. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I am glad though you all still are happy with me lately. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Well, i will remove the Poseidon referance, i do see what you mean now. :p So, now that this is cleared up are we ready for the next scene. I will be uploading the Landing Scene ASAP, i will NOT tamper with it, that was your guys ball game and i understand how fragile it is, and how we have tried hard to settle on a decision. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> It will be unchanged unless i cannot hold back to add a little line of Jacks. As you know, i go over sometimes and improve the flow structure by switching a word or two. I hope everyone doesnt mind...

No, not at all. Like I said a long time ago, I think you have Jack down cold in terms of what he would say in any given situation. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

BTW: Would be nice to add a Poseidon/Neptune reference elsewhere in the story. Before the encounter with Davy Jones, if possible.

So take out Mercer's bit completely from this scene and use it somewhere else? By his whole bit, I mean the "King of the sea" line also. Or should we leave it there and put in another reference somewhere else, though it would have to be earlier than this scene for the "King" line to be relevant. I hope that makes sense, I'm pretty tired at the moment.
I like that "King of the Sea" line where it is and I also am intrigued by Mercer's bit and would like to see it somewhere in the script also. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The one thing I'd watch out for is too many fairy-tale references... one of the weaknesses that I saw in PotC 2 & 3 were the many references to that sort of thing. I felt that undead skeleton pirates were more believeable than a squid-faced Davy Jones.
Just a thought.

Keep it up lads! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Indeed. The only REAL fantasy I would want in this film is Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman and even they should look more normal than in the other films. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

We weren't really planning on going supernatural with this script, were we? Besides Jones?

So, should we leave Mercer's "King of the Sea" bit where it is, or move it to another scene? Or maybe leave a line of it there (like "King of the Sea") and make reference to it somewhere else?

JACK
(SMILES)
King of the sea, mate. Its a gift.

I like that line there and would like to leave it in the scene. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Yay! I can see Jack saying that with his little smirk he gets when he is victorious. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

We could move onto the next scene if everyone is satisfied. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Fine by me. We need to get that village sorted. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Well then, should we make reference to that line somewhere else (probably in an earlier scene) as a way of setting it up (why Jack is calling himself the King of the sea) or just leave it alone?

I'd like some sort of Poseidon/Neptune reference in there somewhere, so if we have that in some scene between Mercer and Jack prior to this point, that'd explain it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

<i>I inserted the Poseidon reference into this scene in bold italics. I figured this might be a good spot as it is earlier in the script and that's when the reference should be made. Let me know if you guys agree.</i>

7.

JACK
A man is never late...'e's just
not early.

BECKETT
Is that so? Well seeing that you
are never early which could
possibly mean that you are never
on time then why should I still
employ you?

JACK
(Astonished)
Because! I'm Captain Jack Sparrow.

BECKETT
(Quickly)
For the moment you are.

JACK
What's that supposed to mean?

BECKETT
(Looking sternly
at Jack)
The Wench can sail with or without
you at the helm.

JACK
(Quick, and
desperate)
But I'm the only one who can coax
the speed out of her sails.

BECKETT
Oh, yes, how could I have
forgotten. <b><i>(Sarcasm creeps
into his voice as he waves an arm
for emphasis) You are Poseidon,
King of the sea, like you once
told Mr. Mercer and me. </i></b>
I am getting terrible at forgetting
things, but there is something
despite that, which I have not
forgotten.

JACK
(Obviously
uncomfortable)
What's that then, eh?

BECKETT
(Emphatically)
That being a mission for you, one
last chance to redeem yourself as
it were.

That's an interesting place to put it, because that immediately makes me wonder in what context Jack Sparrow said that to Mercer and Beckett. It makes you wonder whether Jack is really entirely sane or that he really does believe he's Poseidon. Especially if you see Jack behaving more and more weirdly as the film progresses, hopefully that does pose some questions in the audience's mind.

Well, I had to make sure that he had told Mercer as well as Beckett that he was Poseidon so Mercer recognizes the reference later on. I was just going to say that Mercer was lurking around in the background and overheard it as a way of explaining that but since Mercer really always is at Beckett's side then it would make sense for him to have been there when Jack made his proclamation.
As far as Jack being insane, that's interesting. I really was just thinking that Jack was probably making one of his off the wall comments when he told them he was "Poseidon, King of the sea" and he probably said it in response to criticism leveled at him by Mercer and Beckett regarding his sailing abilities.
But we can leave it vague like that, Pieter, and leave the audience wondering if Jack is really playing with a full deck.

Hmmm.... I think vague is okay, i mean we done HAVE to explain EVERYTHING lol. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Isnt that what Pieter said on like page 19? lol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
