INT. WICKED WENCH, JACKS OFFICE - DAY

Jack is seen standing in his office, with his back to the door, looking through the stern windows.
Footsteps are heard. Jack turns his head slightly towards the door.
Mercer opens the door agressively and enters.

MERCER
(angry)
Mr. Sparrow. Are we running late? Again?!

JACK
Of course not. CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow is never late.

MERCER
Oh really? We should have come upon Turtle Rock several days ago! Beckett told me we'd be there on the 15th!
(pointing at him)

JACK
(turning to face Mercer)
Well, Beckett doesn't know much about sailing a ship then, does he? Navigation is not an exact science.
There's plenty of variables that can delay one. Wind, current, weather conditions, absence of rum.

MERCER
(getting more angry)
You'd better do something about that!

JACK
(cheerfully)
Right. I'll get the rum.

MERCER
(furious, draws his pistol)
Mr. Sparrow, would you like to be shot?

JACK
(still cheerful)
I'd rather get the rum.

MERCER
(cocks gun)

JACK
(holds up a finger)
Right. I'll summon some land for you straight away.

SAILOR
(entering Jack's office)
Capt'n! We have reached our destination.

MERCER
(gives Jack a stern look)

JACK
(smiles)
It's a gift, mate.

MERCER
(holsters gun)
I hope you never lose it, Mr. Sparrow.
For YOUR sake!

EXT. WICKED WENCH, MAIN DECK

Jack and Mercer walk out of Jack's office and onto the deck.
Edwards is looking through his spyglass.
Jack grabs his own spyglass and looks.

JACK
(giving his spyglass to Mercer)
There's your Turtle Rock.

Mercer grumbles as he takes the spyglass. Clearly he is disappointed.

JACK
Very impressive, Mr. Edwards. Impeccable timing.
(to the sailors)
Prepare the boats for landing!

EDWARDS
Aye aye, captain!
--------------------------------------------------------

Okay, so is this the "Land Ho" scene were going with?

I'm quite fine with that. I think it's a good scene. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I like it as well. Okay, Mercer, I guess you can add this scene into the script for now and we can move on to the next scene when they come ashore. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Aye, aye!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

We can always change it later if we come up with other ideas, but at least we'll have it in the script for now. For the next scene, should we have Jack's GW moment come now or later?

I think we should have it now. That way we have Mercer around as well, so that he can roll his eyes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> That's great! Mercer rolling his eyes. That has to be included at the end of the scene if it wasn't there already. Alright, I'll post some ideas later.

It's already there. See <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=10925&view=findpost&p=249444" target="_blank">here</a>. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

<i>Here are two different posts. My comments are in italics.</i>

--------------------------
SEA - DAY

Two boats are seen making their way to the shore. In the first boat,
JACK SPARROW is standing heroically in the front. As the boat bumps
into the shore, JACK steps from the bow onto the beach. His sailors
also get out. Then the second boat bumps into the shore and Mercer,
Edwards and a contigent of EITC marines get out.

JACK
(looking at the EITC marines)
So what do we need them for again?

MERCER
There might be a time when you'll be happy we took them.
Now let's have that map, if you please.

JACK
(giving Mercer a suspicious look)
As captain on this here venture of your'n, I'll be leadin' the way.

Jack grabs the map and his compass, looks at them, then turns towards the sea.

JACK
(putting the map down and looking at the Wench)
That can't be right.
(looks at the map again)
Oh!
(turns the map right-side-up and walks into the jungle)

Mercer rolls his eyes. Then he, Edwards and the EITC marines follow Jack into the jungle.

Several shots of the party walking through the jungle follow.
Then a native village appears.

JACK
Looks like we finally got there.

MERCER
About time.

JACK
I'll see if I can find the chief.

Jack walks off. Tia Dalma walks up to Jack.

TIA DALMA
Please follow me, Captain Jack Sparrow.

Jack looks confused, but follows Tia Dalma into a hut.

--------------------------------------------

<i>That was a combination of the "land ho" scene as well, which I removed. We may need to beef it up a bit. Here is another take that I had posted.</i>

MERCER
(Walks up to Jack)
Okay Mr. Sparrow, since we have arrived
at the marker, lets have that map,
if you please.

JACK
Captain Sparrow. (He corrects him)
And as such I'll be leading the way
Mr. Mercer.

(Jack orders the ship secured and arranges
a landing party)

MERCER
We'll be needing a marine contingent
as well to come ashore with us.

JACK
(suspicious)
Why is that? Are we taking something
we shouldn't from this village?

MERCER
That's on a need to know basis, Mr. Sparrow.

JACK
Captain. (Jack corrects him again)
And what if I need to know now,
Mr. Mercer?

MERCER
Then you will need to wait.

JACK
(Muttering to himself)
I need to be rid of you is what I
need.

(Jack orders a small contingent of marines
to accompany the boarding party)

(The party assembles on a sandy beach next
to Turtle rock, in front of them lies a vast
expanse of jungle.)

JACK
(With great authority, he holds the map out
in front of him and barks out an order)
We will be proceeding in a westerly direction......

MERCER
(Grabs the map)
Easterly direction. Your holding the map
upside down... (he hands the map back to
Jack and shakes his head, adding in disgust)
Captain.

(Jack sheepishly takes the map from Mercer.)

---------------------------------------

<i>Do we want the GW moment to be more pronounced, or more nuanced?</i>

Both versions are pretty good, actually. The first one is my take on the original idea, the second version is Gunsmith's alternate. I think my version is more all-out funny while Gunsmith's version is more about Mercer being annoyed with Jack acting like a fool.

Actually, the second version is mine. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I think yours is more nuanced as I alluded to as mine is more pronounced. I was trying to make the GW moment more pronounced with Jack really attempting to exude some authority and having it backfire in his face. Your version looks like the GW moment would happen pretty quickly but would be just as funny. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

We could meet somewhere in the middle.

Anyone else have any comments or ideas? I'll see if I can post a rewrite of both versions melded together later.

Well, now that we have this pretty much down, i will be working on the next scene. I do like the involvement of people so far, this activity is very good. I like your version also, Pieter, and I can see that working well as an aside in another scene. I think though that his mishap should be a bit more pronounced in this scene so it contrasts the GW moment. That's why I had him try to very much take the lead with the map and speak in a booming voice and of course totally have it wrong.

Like I said, I like your version and think it would be wonderful somewhere else. Perhaps when he's with the French pirate later on and going into the jungle with him. We should hold that to the side right now as this scene continues to take shape and then see if its not overkill.

Very much agreed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The bomb was just a typo of mine. The devil won't show up anymore though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
