Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

so that was a good idea by the looks of it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

for as far as i know, he IS in charge of navigation. someone correct me if i'm wrong. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Every PotC films starts out with a song in one of the early scenes. I thought that the crew of the Wicked Wench singing <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_Sailor#Lyrics" target="_blank">"What shall we do with the drunken sailor?"</a> would be nicely appropriate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I came up with another possibility for the "land ho" scene before I saw what had been posted here:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><b>Mercer:</b> You better do something about that or I will. (grabs his pistol)
<b>Jack:</b> Nice way of solving problems you've got. Shooting me is not going to bring land any closer, is it?
<b>Mercer:</b> But Mr. Edwards would!
<b>Jack:</b> If it pleases you to know, Mr. Edwards already IS in charge of navigation and has been ever since the beginning of the journey.
<b>Mercer:</b> He failed to mention that.
[<b>OR</b>]
<b>Mercer:</b> Perhaps you then are not such a poor captain as I had thought at first. At least you know who to give the important jobs.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Perhaps there's still something of use in there?

<!--quoteo(post=224376:date=Dec 4 2007, 10:32 PM:name=Morgan Terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Morgan Terror @ Dec 4 2007, 10:32 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Mercer: We should have seen land two days ago!
Jack: How did you figure that? Navigation is not an exact science. There's plenty of variables that can delay one. Wind, current, weather conditions, absence of rum.
Mercer: You better do something about that.
Jack: <b>right, i'll get the rum.</b>
how's that? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> it seemed to me the meaning of mercer's sentence was a bit unclear, so i made use of it!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Whahahaaa! Mercer WAS asking for that reply, wasn't he? Brilliant! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

MERCER
(frustrated)
You better do something about that.

JACK
Right, I'll get the rum.

MERCER
(draws his pistol)
Mr. Sparrow, would you like to be shot?

JACK
(smiles weakly)
I'd rather get the rum.

A tension filled moment passes, Mercer cocks his gun.

JACK
(holds a finger up)
Right. I'll get some land for you straight away.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->LOL! Making a funny scene even funnier, are you? I love it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />
Shame to lose the Poseidon reference though. Thought that would make a nice tiny hint to the eventual revelation of Calypso.
In any case: If we can keep up this good work, the final script is going to be REALLY worth filming! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=224421:date=Dec 5 2007, 10:32 AM:name=gunsmith)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(gunsmith @ Dec 5 2007, 10:32 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->We'll Mercer could be angry about something else. Not for their lateness. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Ot maybe he's not angry at all.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->I was thinking perhaps they had been caught up in the doldrums. These can be found in the waters around the equator and would really slow you down due to the absence of wind. Of course Mercer doesn't understand that there is nothing that canbe done about that, so he becomes angry and impatient when the voyage takes longer than he had hoped. This also allows us to add a small scene with the sailors aboard the ship during a complete absence of wind. That again adds a touch of realistic shipboard life as well. And if we go with this idea, the scene can just play out as written and there'd be no need to change it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=224421:date=Dec 5 2007, 10:32 AM:name=gunsmith)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(gunsmith @ Dec 5 2007, 10:32 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->BTW.... is Edwards defenitly in charge of navigation or is it still just an idea?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->I don't think we're officially agreed on that one yet, but I've heard no objections to the idea so far. Personally I like giving Edwards something important to do and it allows us to puta sextant in his hands during the night conversation scene. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

how about the sea being so flat that some of the crew would be bowling empty rum bottles with a cannonball in the background? just a random thought.

LOOOOL! I want that one in! Really funny! Probably not entirely historically accurate, but we can sacrifice historic accuracy when it is funny or helps the story, can't we? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

of course, rumbottles can't quite stand being hit by cannonballs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

LoL!!!
But is it exagerating???

We will use this absence of wind. So now we need to toss it in the script.

Yep. We still have some missing scenes underway to Africa. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

we don't really need that much, i think. but what DO we need? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Voyage montage, doldrums scene, perhaps some more? But not so much more, actually. I think we'll be done with the journey to Africa quite soon. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I agree with Pieter on this, and anyway, we don't have to say anything about bowling, but of course the inference would be there. A quick shot of some crewman doing this in the background, maybe as the principle characters walk by in the forefront, would be pretty funny.

BTW, Pieter, great work on the compilation in the first post. Lots of ideas will not be lost or forgotten now because of it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> The script is taking shape now, we should all be excited to be a part of it. speaking of such things, ever noticed that some of davey's crew in DMC are actually eating each other? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

What in the devil are you talking about?

Guys, I love that we are all making dialogue, we should keep it up! But we need to just focus for a little bit on filling in those missing scenes. Dialogue isn't really nescesarry, but it wont hurt, I think we need just an idea. Like that doldrums idea with the cannonball bowling, (LOL By the way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ). It wouldnt be smart to jump TOO far ahead and start making plot lines, because we might get a good idea but it will conflict with the story plot we had already jumped ahead and written. Just doing this to keep everybody on task. Great job again everybody, keep up the awesome work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I was thinking about that, maybe getting off track or going to far ahead. I agree but then again, little bits like that last one couldn't hurt and could be saved to insert in the script later.

NATHANIEL
(Quietly)
Neither do I. But do be careful. There
seems to be more at stake than you
realize. Mercer is not here for nothing.

JACK
Always a lack of information. Never
a clear answer. Why?

MERCER
Lord Beckett knows the value of
information.

I'm letting that lad get in me head to
much, now your starting to sound like
him, mate.
(As Jack speaks this he turns toward
Edwards and then literally jumps back
when he sees Mercer standing next to
him)
How do you keep doing that?

MERCER
Its my business to stay informed.
</i>

JACK
(annoyed)
Shouldn't you be in bed by now?

MERCER
I get that often. Usually it is that
individual's last words. I hope they
won't be yours.

FADE OUT.

davey's crew is picking little seacreatures of each other and eating them. look at the liar's dice game.

I think things like that should be handled through the performance and between the lines in dialogs. Unfortunately with film it is really hard to make clear what a character is thinking when you can't really go inside his head like in a book. This addition sounds quite like the relationship between Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins in Treasure Island/Treasure Planet.

How old would Edwards be anyway? I always imagined him to be about the same age as Jack, considering that he has already been made Post Captain. But then Jack in this film will be younger than the Jack we know.

I image Jack would want to have a talk with his new officer as soon as possible. Here Edwards would ensure Jack that he does not intend to take over the ship, which is a great relief to Jack, of course.
