Here is the official stages Jones went through. Lets pick one close to his tentacally form.

Keep him in the shadows? Show him almost-human-but-not-quite? Have the Jack-Davy encounter seem like a dream/hallucination to Jack?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And what of the crew? We dont want sharky walking around.

We could stage the encounter in the captain's cabin. The crew would not bother them there. Where did you find that picture? Looks cool! So originally he was just growing a lot of hair and only later did that hair start to resemble a squid.

Yep, he had a Blackbeard type beard going just before he turned sea-like, so those would logically turn into tentacles.

In the modpack quest, yes. But in the film I don't expect Davy Jones to come ashore just for Jack. I think Jack was drowning in an attempt to raise the Pearl himself and then woke up aboard the Flying Dutchman or something like that.

Nice drawings! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Where did they come from?

I don't think Mercer would react confused. He'd be pretty annoyed. I can picture the way he would say this: with a lot of sarcasm and a lot of annoyance. Clearly he isn't pleased. Then Jack <i>continues</i> trying to confuse him and Mercer loses his patience and leaves.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hmmm. Just a thought, but I do think its funnier if he were really confused by the jackspeak, then gets angry for being confused and at Jack's nonsense overall and winds up losing his patience and leaves.

In the shadows and almost-human-but-not-quite. In his cabin is good so we don't have to deal with sharky, but the others wouldn't be changed all the way either.

Perhaps a little bit out of character for him, but we can afford a tiny little bit of out-of-character-ness every now and then, can't we? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Isn't that part of creating and building a character? You have to start with something and add to it.

Back onto that Davy Jones subject, i say we show him in the form of the bottom right picture in my pic above.

Sounds good to me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I say that because we want to say, he is Sooo close to being a sea-creature, and yet he is still human, but i think that is showing a bit of the beginnings of the transformation.

Exactly. He still has to be recognisable. Actually I found that in his one human-like scene in AWE, he didn't actually look that much like Davy Jones to me.

I think that's a good idea as well. The audience can relate to him better since he has a suggestion about him of the way he will look in the later films but he is still human. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Yeah, and if the critics have a problem with the vague timeline disney provided and our portraying of Jones as a human here's what we say:

<!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->"SCREW YOU!"<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

NONONO! We can't say THAT to the critics! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

We say: "WALK THE PLANK!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
