I've been away for couple of days.
Mercer nice dinner scene.
Maybe that Jack speech was little confusing...but thats the idea of it.
What else could they talk about while having dinner?
Not just mission importance.

Question: so when they arrive in Africa, they come to this village, then... Jack sees Tia Dalma, right?
Is it first time they meet?
 
We haven't decided on that one yet. Originally I thought that would be the first time, but then I came up with the idea as posted <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=10925&view=findpost&p=221577" target="_blank">here</a> in which case it wouldn't be the first time.
 
I think he does, because he knew her in DMC, but after this mission he could know her, i see where that arguement can arise, but i think it might fit better to have him already have met her, but i will see what everyone else wants.

I always stick to my duties of the
EITC. There was never a deviation
from my orders at anytime in me
career.

<b>MERCER
(Picks at his food and sets down his
fork, looking at Jack) Never a
deviation from <i>your</i> orders
maybe, Mr. Sparrow, but orders
given by others... (He lets the thought
trail off but the message is clear)</b>

JACK
(Squints his eyes
at Mercer)
I thought we were past all of this
mate.

<b>MERCER
Past it? (He swallows his rage along
with a piece of meat and glares at
Jack) Maybe you are
past it, but the EITC has
suffered loss from your
untimeliness.</b>

JACK
I am terribly sorry, if there are
any delays to be had on this
mission I shall inform you
immediately.

<b>MERCER
(Suddenly begins choking. Before
anyone can react he pounds himself
on the chest and spits out a chunk
of meat. The others stare at him.
Mercer seems not to notice their
astonished looks.)

JACK
(Staring at Mercer in disbelief)
Under orders not to choke?

MERCER
(Shakes his head and looks down,
picking up his fork again) Just
remember the deadline
this time. That's all.

JACK
(Still in a bit of shock over what he
just witnessed, he smiles weakly at
Mercer.) Of course, mate. (He
looks at the others.) On a higher
note, why are you on this mission
Mr. Mercer?</b>


Changes are in bold text. Thought I would add that bit about Mercer basically performing the Heimlich maneuver on himself, kind of gives an indication just how focused he is that he won't let a little something like choking on a piece of meat deter him. Like he's under orders from Beckett not to die.

I think Pieters idea could work. When I read it for the first time I thought Iit was good but I can't figure everything out now after reading it for couple of times)

Jack knows Tia prior to the film and is the only person to know where to find her. Beckett wants Tia, so he needs Jack, but he doesn't want Jack to know that he wants Tia. So he sends out Jack on this "personal errand" that sends him to Africa where Jack has to find Tia's village and then Mercer will take the whole village population captive to make it seem like a slave transport. Or something like that. Just a random idea; I haven't yet given the matter any additional thought.
 
sounds a bit like the brethren court hunt in AWE, or the compass. anyway, i'm not really for any of the two ideas, but not against any of them either.
 
We'll write your own than. Lets see what you have in mind.

If we use your idea Pieter than we have to change script a little.

Questions: What would Beckett tell Jack, and why would he accept to go on a slave transport mission?
How does Beckett know that Jack is the only person to where is Tia?
 
I think Jack wouldn't accept to go on a slave transport mission. He would accept going on "a mission" to Africa. Then it turns out it is a slave transport. But even that is not truly true, for it is really all about Tia. But the more I think about it, the more weird questions I am asking. If Jack DOES know where Tia is and has a map that leads there, how could Beckett phrase his orders to get Jack to sail there without giving away his intentions? "You are ordered to sail to the village that only you can find in Africa." That sounds really stupid. I have, so far, been unable to come up with a reasonable explanation for this. So I think we should just stick to the original plan: Jack didn't meet Tia before this errand at all. I did say it was a random idea and, like with all my random ideas, they might be good or bad. Apparently this was one of the bad ones. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

We might say that it was "fate" that led Jack there; that it HAD to happen. Or something. But that would be something that would not need to be referenced in the movie. Except for Tia making some vague remarks. But really those "vague remarks" of Tia in AWE really greatly annoy me. They are in Davy Jones' locker and they encounter Governor Swann, who explains about stabbing the heart of Davy Jones. Then Tia says to Will: "A touch of destiny." Really I found that particular scene SO annoying. It's like Tia saying to Will: "You are destined to become the next captain of the Flying Dutchman." It was really completely obvious. Which I found most unfortunate. If Tia gets to say anything in the prequel, it should NOT be obvious!
 
So are we all in accord about the dinner scene? If not PLEASE, PLEASE chip in. Only a very few have actually written lines to go in the scenes, i understand that you might not have the time, but i have really been receiving line edits from Old Salt, others HAVE chipped in, in the way of ideas, which is absolutely fine, but i need people to point out what needs to be added, not just where the problem lies. That will help the fluency. It's kind of like "Hey that line is wrong it should be like... Sooo...fix it please," I am not made of ideas gentlemen, Everyone sees things from a different angle and when we approach it from different angles it will make one helluva script. I need others to tell what they think need be added in the dialogue, dont be shy because you think everyone else will think it is stupid, because here, no ideas are stupid.
 
Agreed, Mercer, all ideas are welcome here. I have been busy the last couple of nights and of course today is Thanksgiving but I will be adding more dialogue into the script soon. I have the time but I have no idea what shoul they talk about while having dinner. Or on their voyage.
