Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

<!--quoteo(post=221635:date=Nov 15 2007, 01:40 PM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen @ Nov 15 2007, 01:40 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->The problem with just using one of the two is that the officer in the Spanish Royal Navy would be easier to work into the story, but the cleric of the Church of England would be much more amusing. Therefore I really want to go with the cleric thing. But how to work it into the story, I don't really know. I thought that Jack could act as cleric of the Church of England and ask for the help of the Spanish priests or something like that. But then he would play an English character and we wouldn't have the conversation Old Salt came up with. I just really want to see Old Salt's scene in the script, as well as Jack in monk's clothes being chased by an angry mob. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
How about the Church of England bit coming first, where he is chased by the angry mob dressed as a monk (I'm laughing out loud as I write this, just thinking about that image) and after he gets away he realizes that he will have to disguise himself again and this time tries it as a Spanish officer and winds up bumping into the Spaniard. Of course we would have to fill that in, but that could be the general outline, sort of have the scenes trip over each other.

<!--quoteo(post=221635:date=Nov 15 2007, 01:40 PM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen @ Nov 15 2007, 01:40 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Great one! That would work very nicely for Jack and Edwards becoming friends. Plus it would give us the opportunity to explain Jack's character a bit more. I also like your suggestion of Jack having no idea why he works for Beckett. That sounds pretty much like Jack.
<b>Edwards:</b> "So why <i>do</i> you work for the EITC if you like your freedom so much?"
<b>Jack:</b> "You know what? I have NO idea."

I can just picture Johnny Depp delivering that line perfectly. Of course my original thought was that Jack was doing it for the extra income through the salary he would gain. So Jack would be running of on errands of his own and making profit that way, but would also still be in the employ of the EITC, thus getting more money. So basically a double pay. But your idea is much more interesting, I think. Simple, yet effective. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<b>Edwards:</b> So why <i>do</i> you work for the EITC if you like your freedom so much?
<b>Jack:</b> (Mumbling to himself with his fingers rubbing his chin, deep in thought) That's interesting.
<b>Edwards:</b> What is?
<b>Jack:</b> (Turning to Edwards) I have NO idea.

Both scenes are funny. The Cleric and the Spanish one.

Question is how to combine them so that they turn out very very fuuny.
Saltys idea isn't bad.

This night ship scene would be perfect.

Just imagine Jack standing and looking at the moon. Edwards approaches him.
<b>Edward:</b> Good evening capt....
<b>Jack:</b> shhhh.....
(silence for couple of seconds)
<b>Jack:</b> Can you hear it?
<b>Edwards:</b>: Hear what ?
<b>Jack:</b> The sea. Isn't it the most beautiful thing you ever heared?
Listen to it. It's full of storys and secrets and when you listen very carefuly you can hear them.

Something like that. Jack showing some emotions.
I know it sucks but thats why you are here.

I like both Old Salt's and Gunsmiths scenes. I don't think that last one sucks. It's perhaps a bit overly sentimental for the Jack we know, but it's pretty good nonetheless. And we HAVE seen him like that before when he was marooned with Elizabeth on the island in CotBP.

I didn't really worked on it.

The idea is that Jack talkes how he loves the sea...and Edward admires him and he asks him why he works for Beckett.

That's true, we've seen him like that before and you can see Jack saying things like that in Gun's scene.

Mercer, I was thinking maybe that with some of the new ideas that came up since you wrote the last draft, especially Pieter's and Gun's, that you could maybe write up an updated scene and then I could add to that one. What do you think?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Aye, sir.

Everyone the translation to "get someone or something" in Spanish is: "agarrar le". There, lets put that to rest.

Here's an updated version, i tried to get Jack to make a completely new line using nothing from existing movies.

MERCER TURNS QUICKLY AND WALKS OFF DECK. JACK BOARDS THE
WENCH.

NATHANIEL
(Warmly)
Hello, Captain are all things
ship-shape?

JACK
(Watching the last
crate of rum
being loaded)
Yep, pretty much.
(Yells)
All hands! Raise anchor! Cast off
the lines. You know Oi! Oi! Oi!
and the lot.

Ship is set off to sea, Jack fails to notice a large number
of ships being readied for another mission of Becketts...

EXT. MAIN DECK, WICKED WENCH. (DUSK) - NIGHT

Sparrow stands at the wheel enjoying the breeze of the
evening.

JACK
Mr. Wilsson, I think we owe our
guests a good hearty,
strong...ummm...magnificent meal,
so...step to.

WILSSON
(Annoyed)
Yes, Captain.

JACK
(Bends over to
grab a piece of
paper stuffed in the rung of a
barrel)
Oh...

He picks it up reading intently, then suddenly laughs and
throws it overboard.

JACK
(muttering to
himself)
Hah, EITC soldiers on MY ship,
preposterous!

CAMERA PANS TO SHOW THE SHIP SAILING OFF INTO THE DARKNESS,
STERN LANTERNS ALIGHT.

WILSSON
(Poking head out
from door)
Captain, dinner is served.

JACK
Good, invite Mr. Edwards and
Mercer to dinner.

WILSSON NODS HEAD IN QUICK SALUTE, THEN SCURRIES OFF.

INT. WICKED WENCH, CAPTAINS CABIN - NIGHT

SPARROW AND RANKING OFFICERS ARE SEATED AT THE HEAD OF THE
TABLE AS MERCER AND EDWARDS ENTER.

JACK
Glad you all made it safely.

SHOWS EVERYONE EATING THROUGH THE STERN WINDOWS.

NATHANIEL
So, Captain Sparrow do you enjoy
your journeys?

JACK
Utter enjoyment mate.
(Clearly trying to
make sure Mercer
hears)
I always stick to my duties of the
EITC. There was never a deviation
from my orders at anytime in me
career.

MERCER
Except the deadlines.

JACK
(Squints his eyes
at Mercer)
I thought we were past all of this
mate.

MERCER
You are past it, the EITC has
suffered loss from your
untimeliness.

JACK
I am terribly sorry, if there are
any delays to be had on this
mission I shall inform you
immediately. On a higher note, why
are you on this mission Mr.
Mercer?

MERCER
Sir Beckett did say that this
mission was important did he not.

JACK
See, there comes a moment when
things are of the importance, but
on the lower-side of said
importance, and a moment where
there is a loftier side of the
importance. I would probably rank
this importance at about
upper-lower side, or lower-lofty
side of importance, but seeing
that you think it is a bit
important i will rank it
mid-lower-lofty importance on my
absolutely...strung out chart of
importance.

STIFLED LAUGHTER CAN BE HEARD AMONGST THE OFFICERS.

MERCER
(Confused)
Mid-lower-lofty side?

JACK
(Quickly and
intelligently)
Or mid-upper-lower side if you
would. Possibly a tad lower than
the median of the mid-upper-lower side, savvy?

ALL THE CREW, UNABLE TO CONTAIN THEMSELVES ANYMORE BREAK OUT
LAUGHING. EVEN EDWARDS LAUGHS, MERCER CHUCKLES A LITTLE.

FADE OUT.

That could be interpreted as "grab him" but "Get él" sounds funnier. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

First impressions of the script, I love that back and forth between Mercer and Jack, especially when Mercer got confused by the Jackspeak. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

LOL. Nice one! Where did that scrap of paper come from? What was on it? And why was sailor Wilsson annoyed?
Nice thought to introduce the dinner scene through the stern windows of the Wench! And Jack's explanation of the importance of the mission is also really funny. Although it's really confusing, we do understand that Jack thinks this mission can't be <i>that</i> important, but Mercer's presence does seem to indicate it is more important than it seems to Jack.

<!--quoteo(post=221804:date=Nov 17 2007, 02:46 AM:name=Mercer)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mercer @ Nov 17 2007, 02:46 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->JACK
Good, invite Mr. Edwards and
Mercer to dinner.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->I'd make it "Mr. Edwards and Mr. Mercer" here.

personally, i'd think that mercer would just look more confused, maybe even ashamed and continue eating at the end.

Agreed. If Mercer would laugh at all, he'd probably show more of a grimace than actual amusement.

<!--quoteo(post=221859:date=Nov 17 2007, 07:53 AM:name=Morgan Terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Morgan Terror @ Nov 17 2007, 07:53 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->maybe a foolish grin. it would show the ashamedness too.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I dont think Mercer would be ashamed for it, Mercer has smiled before, okay I'll agree the chuckle was a bit too much for him maybe a smile. Also the officers arent laughing AT Mercer, they are laughing at Jacks long absolutely hilarious speech about importance, also i should add there was a lot of booze about so laughing wouldnt be to hard to get from the officers.

The scrap i just used to prolong his stay on deck, Jack truely doesnt think there are EITC soldiers on his ship, maybe Mercer planted that to make Jack become wary of the fict that there might be, a distraction that would keep him in line.

Pieter, Wilsson is just that nearly always annoyed sailor that the captain likes to send around as his little courier.

I am glad everyone liked it, i tried to fit some Jack-speak in there because i thought "Hey, dinner, booze, sitting in a room eating, that is the perfect arena for Jack-speak. And he is actually through all of this NOT trying to confuse Mercer, he is just trying to impress him that he thinks the mission is important.

Working on some lines for this, Mercer, but I got home late tonight so I'll see if I can post them tomorrow.

<!--quoteo(post=221855:date=Nov 17 2007, 08:50 AM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen @ Nov 17 2007, 08:50 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Agreed. I agree with that, Mercer would want to show that he is as distant from them as he can possibly be so Jack remains on edge.
