Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

I like that, Old Salt. Soooooo Sorry i havent replied lately i have been terribly sick with the flu.

You too, Mercer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Must be something going around, besides that superbug I mean. I've had something for the past week I couldn't shake. I think I finally just got rid of it.

it seems like my teachers are trying to catch up with the slacking of last semester. 7 projects started in a single week! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> and the week's not even over yet! i'm not sure, but i think not even my spamming can risist this homework flood.

I find that hard to believe, Morgan. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> Seems like we are tied up with sickness and projects. I'll see if I can continue adding too or tweaking the script we have so far.

I'd like some ideas posted for the events during the voyage to Africa. I proposed a dinner scene with Jack and Nathaniel Edwards after leaving England. Any other suggestions? We want to show shipboard life under Jack as EITC captain, we want to see Jack and Nathaniel becoming friends, we could hint at the true personality of Mercer, etc.

Gentlemen, as a new poster, i would like to say how fascinating the exchanges are. The potential of combining all this imagination is awesome as either a movie or an extension to the game story line.

As a complete amateur as far as story lines or novels go, I bow to your abilities, but would like to express some thoughts, dull as they may be.

I envisaged Jack dropping off the slaves and heading to a port to re-supply. On entering harbour he spies through his glass Beckett and a contingent of troops awaiting him. "OOPS!", make sail and turn tail asap. Closing on the harbour a warship of some description with Norrington at the helm. Battle ensues, Wench is sunk. Norringtons career is boosted Beckett a happy man. I See no reason why the 2 captains should have seen each other during the course of battle. Norrington would be aware who jack was (he had been sent to sink him) and been given a description of his tatoo hence later recognition in PoTC movie.

Clearly after a battle or a sinking, Jones will appear to collect the soles, but he may not be visible (this is a small supernatural feed). Jack does his deal with Jones, perhaps something to do with the compass? The compass points to what one desires. What does Jones desire? However Jack leads him to his desire, Jones can not make landfall and perhaps Jack has a triste with the object of Jones's desire.

I can imagine that once the deal was struck between Jones and Jack, that Jack can now see Jones. As Jones plies the ocean collecting souls, perhaps they pass, the 2 captains eyeing each other and Jack notices the gradual changes to Jones's appearence. Some opportunity for comical expressions from Jack as he surveys Jones and looks down at his own arms. Will the crew be those who sank with the Wench all returned, or is it just Jack who returns? If the latter, then more chances for comic interludes as the crew watch Jack gazing into the distance and grimacing at nothing ( they will not be able to see the reaper of souls sailing by).

It is entirely possible that I am off the mark and some of this is not feasable as i am no expert in the story line, but thank you for allowing me the opportunity to pass on some thoughts

Those are some interesting ideas. I especially like the invisible Davy Jones idea. We'd need to come up with a reason why he would be invisible in the prequel but visible in the other films, but it could make for some good fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

And be assured we appreciate the ideas from everybody. I don't have any official story line experience either. I just try to come up with good ideas. So you're not the only one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Sorry Gentlemen and Officers, I just had a vision of the unconventional pirate that is Jack, stepping daintily from the spar of a ship during a boarding action or close quarter battle of some type.

Imaging the raging battle below, hands running round, muskets firing dust and smoke everywhere. As the 2 vessels come alongside, the ship on the port station heels over slightly to stbd and a small figure in the rigging gently steps from one ship to the other as the chaos ensues around him. Slinks off to captains cabin relives him of his gold etc, takes a swig of rum in passing, climbs the rigging and steps gently back aboard his own vessel as the two ships rub woodwork.

A stylish drop to the deck as per Errol Flynn, turns to bosun (or whoever is most appropriate) and gently says, "we may leave now, and when we leave, may I suggest we do it with great haste." (or something better, more Jack like with a hint of sarcastic irony per. se.).

They image of the cool, clever fox of a man slipping around as an unconventional pirate while chaos carried on around him just amused me.

Maybee as a Pirate, he would slip into a harbour at night, slip aboard a ship or go ashore to steal the valuables and leave, rather than the confrontational cutthroat image of bloodthirsty pirates.

I see him as an oceanic catburgler. Maybee this is what he is doing during his years as a pirate. Huge comic potential, masses of short scene opportunities, fillers and character development. I think this would suite his almost feline movements and gentle attitude, something the public loves about him (well my wife does anyway). This would also have given him the opportunity to meet all the ladies he clearly knows (and seemingly dissapoints) on his travels. More comic potential, sneeks into house to steal valuables, discovered by lady of the house, "Oh why not!, I have a few minutes", promises to return, gets slap on face next time they meet. More comic potential - the crew sat in rowing boat waiting for him to return from burglary "where the hell is he?" etc etc. Whistling confident Jack swaggers down the path toward them, guard appears doing rounds of town, Jack arms waving like a banshee sprints to rowing boat and they quietly head off to ship with mission completed. Much opportunity for banter between crew and Jack.

His more esoteric nay, excentric behaviour is a development of these traights brought about by being stranded on an island with only Rum for comfort. It would do it for me aaaargh.

Now wers mi iland mateys.

That sounds like fun. Now if we could add those events into the storyline, rather than having them as seperate and unrelated events, that would be quite awesome. I see these things happening between the time that Jack sets free the slaves and Jack deciding to go to Indonesia. As for the Jack stepping from the yardarm onto the other ship's deck: Sounds like fun! Could be somewhat similar to Jack's stepping off the sinking boat at the begin of CotBP. The boarding does need to take place with a much bigger ship though, because if the ships are equal size, Jack's ship would need to heel over so much that she would capsize. So it sounds like Jack would need to board a Battleship. Possibly a Spanish gold galleon. This might be part of the "Jack goes pirating with French corsair and goes to Mexico to learn about Isla de Muerte" story. Perhaps the boarding of the Spanish gold galleon is what suggests to Jack to go to Mexico.

Maybe, after freeing the slaves he sails around in the Caribbean and gets attacked by a french pirate. They engage eachother in a battle, and you get the Jack thingies while they board. The french pirate gets defeated but Jack sees more profit in going on an expedition with a professional pirate. Then you get the mexican thingy.

Believe me, he would have a huge difficulty getting up onto a Spanish Galleon. Those things had higher decks than the dutchman. It would be like running up a hill in San Francisco. Yes, the finding of gold on the galleon could prompt Jack to sail to New Spain. That could fit. We'll see how the story goes and something might present itself to improve on this idea. Thats how it has always happened Gents.

I have entered the last of the modified script on the Jack/Beckett office scene, and after one final review i think that we can move on! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

INT. BECKETTS OFFICE - DAY

Sparrow is escorted in with Mercer entering from behind.

BECKETT
(Looking out a
window)
Mr. Sparrow...

JACK
(Slightly Insulted)
Captain...Captain Sparrow.

BECKETT
It remains to be determined if you
are still able to rate that rank,
Mr. Sparrow. For now I am just
glad you were able to find your
way here.

JACK
I had a little help.
(Glances Nervously
at Mercer)

BECKETT
Maybe that's all one needs; a
little help.
(Turning around)
So, I find yet another shipment is
late as are you.

JACK
A man is never late...'e's just
not early.

5.

BECKETT
Is that so? Well seeing that you
are never early which could
possibly mean that you are never
on time then why should I still
employ you?

JACK
(Astonished)
Because! I'm Captain Jack Sparrow.

BECKETT
(Quickly)
For the moment you are.

JACK
What's that supposed to mean?

BECKETT
(Looking sternly
at Jack)
The Wench can sail with or without
you at the helm.

JACK
(Quick, and
desperate)
But I'm the only one who can coax
the speed out of her sails.

BECKETT
Oh, yes, how could I have
forgotten. I am getting terrible
at forgetting things, but there is
something despite that, which I
have not forgotten.

JACK
(Obviously
uncomfortable)
What's that then, eh?

BECKETT
(Emphatically)
That being a mission for you, one
last chance as it were.

JACK
(Smiles weakly)

BECKETT
Are you up to the task, captain?
(pauses for
emphasis)

6.

BECKETT (cont'd)
Or will you let me down again Mr.
Sparrow?

JACK
(The dropping of
his title at the
end of Beckett's
line not lost in
him, he replies
quickly)
Always up to not letting you down.

BECKETT
Good. Good.
(Begins pouring
Brandy for
Sparrow)
Then I hope you will prove to me
that I entrusted this assignment
to the right man.

JACK
(Feeling better
about the
situation)
Ah, proving oneself, 'tis the act
of showing another that he can do
things right...
(Grabbs a goblet
containing Brandy)
...with the proper compensation.
In doing things right he therefore
shows the other that he has in
fact been proven. Eh?
(Empties goblet)

BECKETT
Why of course Captain, it is just
good buisness.

JACK
(Pouring another
cup of brandy)
Were I in a busy mood, what then
might i busy myself with?

BECKETT
There is a shipment of great
importance to the East India
Trading Company, and me. I cannot
discuss the contents, but you will
see when you get there. Mercer and
another individual: Post Captain
(MORE)

7.

BECKETT (cont'd)
Edwards winn accompany you on this
endevour to ensure its speedy
transport.

JACK
(Chokes on brandy
after hearing of
Mercers job)
Well, we...I. Thats perfect I will
ensure that no one is disappointed
at all, saavy?

BECKETT
(Nods)

JACK
(Slyly)
I am going to meed ammunition for
my ship, and some extra comforts
to help the long voyage go easily,
savvy?
(Glances at a
barrel of rum in
the corner)

BECKETT
You will have the ammunition and
what ever else it is that
satisfies you.

JACK
(Smiling. Replies
quickly while
turned to Mercer
and pointing at
Beckett with both
hands)
Good man!

BECKETT
(Sniffs)

JACK
Perfect we will set sail as soon
as the rum is loaded.
(Realizing his
mistake to say
rum, he quickly
replies)
along with the ammunition.

8.

BECKETT
Good, Mercer and Edwards will be
with you shortly.

JACK
(Smiling
disarmingly)
Thank you kind sir.

Sparrow and Mercer both walk out of the room.

FADE OUT.

That would be hilarious! Good work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

i am SO for this idea. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> couldn't he just step from the main unto the topsail yard of the enemy ship? that would make a lot smaller ship also a possibility.

Gentlemen and Officers,

Much funnier, love the idea of a broadside to heel her over. I had envisioned stepping from one yard arm onto another as they passed, but either way it will work better with the crew looking aghast, as he orders them to fire off the canons on the wrong side.

Gentlemen and Officers,

I had missed the thread on the French Pirate and the trip to the Yucatan to search for Mayan Gold.

Idea. Catburgler Jack makes a boo boo. Slips up in his black ship at night (can't be seen eh, very clever that eh), boards a moored vessel, sneaks to captains cabin, finds chest with Mayan Gold. Fantastic!!!

Strange clicking noise, turns to see a fully cocked large bore pistol beside his nose. "Oh Bugger"

Enter French Pirate, likes Jacks style but not his choice of target. Much verbal jousting Jack offers to help get more Gold, clear ease springs.

Set off to Yucatan, stop off for supplies, here talk of myths and legends in Taverns etc.

One stop may be Nassau. Jack visits Governors mansion odly it is closed in the early hours of the morning, but he makes himself at home, finds a lovely cellar. Wakes up in Governors chair with feet on table anf Guv staring down.

"Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my chair!!"
"I'm Captain Jack Sparrow""Well Captain Jack Sparrow, I will call the guard and have you ejected"
"Not so fast, I have a fleet of ships moored off shore waiting to come in and ransack the town, I ordered them to hold off so we can negotiate terms" etc etc

Mercer can put together Jack speak better than I.

Jack slips out having secured some loot and saunters down to the key, walks faster, jogs and then runs to the whaler moored up at the dock.

"gawd cap'n we was worried sick were u bin".

"Cast off with haste if you please, make for the Pearl"
"with haste u say cap'n"

Sailor looks past Jack to see a man running from the mansion to the fort.

"You may wish to pull a little harder"
"ey cap'n I think we may"

Once on ship huge flurry of activity, full sail every sheet hauled, rudder hard over.

French pirate looks across puzzled, then looks to shore <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> where soldiers are climbing into whalers.

"Full sail if you glease fall in behind the Pearl." <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

Jack stood on Pearl looking to French Pirate and shrugging. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> "It's not my fault!"

Sail to Yucatan, adventures in the Jungle.

On way back stories are told in Taverns of Cap'n Jack who sacked Nassau with ner a shot being fired.

Frenchman listens with interest as the amount of gold taken gets higher and higher (this has already been beautifully described elsewhere in the thread).

Anyhow, it allows us to severe the link with the Frenchman once Yucatan is complete, cos clearly he now thinks Jack recieved a vast amount of money but would not share. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> Clearly as Jack had to carry the money back, he recieved very little. In fact he may not actually have recieved any who knows.

It would be funny if any money he did get was somehow Becketts. Te He <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I just quickly scanned through these latest posts and as I have to get up very early tomorrow I'll just comment on the the two ideas that jumped out at me and that others also seem to like. I love that idea of Jack stepping onto another ship, for it will show that he has had practice at doing these things before he stepped onto that dock in the beginning of CotBP.
And the French pirate we pictured him running around with in search of Mayan treasure, it would be for more interesting if he did defeat the pirate in battle before joining up with him. Those are some good ideas jacarutu, you are a welcome addition to the thread. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2up" border="0" alt="thumbs1.gif" />
