Solved Fixing the Build Mod Ships

It's the PO_WarGalleon with a different jib. Historically the East Indiaman had a bent jib instead of the straight jib they have in POTC.

They will be getting more correct soon, but it is hard to see anything that low because of the flagpole bug.

I've always liked these ships and want to make them better.

The SP_Galleon50 is probably partially messed up already. The collision detection is wrong. It is a dangerous ship to get too close to, with smaller ships sometimes almost getting thrown out of the water and sent spinning away.
Oh, you should have said that before! Bad collision detection is asking for trouble. That ship is definitely on my Maya hit-list, then. :facepalm

Hey! Lookee what I found! :cheeky Methinks this can be made to work.
I'm intrigued; which ship did you steal that massive jib from?

Now if only some kind soul with a working Maya could fix the flagpole. :bow
Hehe... if I start fixing the flagpole, I know I won't be able to rest without replacing the cannons, wheel and capstans. I hate those...
Still, I've had plenty enough practise to be able to do all of those pretty quickly. Let's see how soon I can do this...

That jib is off the FR_Couronne. It has almost the same angle and now almost half of it is in the hull.

So that's why it's so huge! xD:
Good thinking though; it does seem to fit pretty well.

Anyway, I've just finished my work on the WarGalleon flagpole, with extras. See here: http://www.pyratesah...leon_Upgrade.7z
The flagpole is now a separate model file (mast5), and the hull now has a better wheel, better cannons and better capstans.
I also threw in some deadeyes for good measure, and moved the vant locators to match.
I used RN_WarGalleon as the test version, and there have been no problems to report. Simply replace the old hull and copy/rename for the other versions.
You'll also need to change the ships_init flags entry, to replace mast0 with mast5. Have fun. ;)

P.S. I could shorten that jib to fit the model properly if you want. I just need to know the coordinates you used to attach it to the hull.

Thank you. That was fast! :2up

Because it is not a perfect match I don't want the jib shortened too much. It is best to have some overlap. Besides, I'm not sure how long it should be. Is it too short? Too long?

The check finally came yesterday. I am now officially retired! :warr

Of course we celebrated last night and I am in poor condition today. :j1

I'm no expert, but I'd say it looks about right from your latest screenie. That is, based on the angle of the jib. I think the steeper ones are shorter.
That's why, if you're happy with it, I can adjust it in Maya by cutting off the extra length and forming it to fit the mast stump properly.
As I said, though, I need to know the coordinates you used to position the mast locator, to make sure I can line it up correctly with the hull.

Congrats on your retirement, by the way! :drunk

I seem to have my comfort zone with the jib. It is really nice to be able to get close to this ship. Now it just needs to get the ropes fixed.

I did not change the X coordinate for mast 1, and the Y coordinate is now -0.58 and the Z coordinate is 8. It is now about as long as the straight one.

UGHH. I got up this morning and looked at her, and that jib is too long. I'm going to move the chin sail forward and shorten the jib.

New coordinates. Y= -0.9 and Z= 7.

There are a lot of ropes on this mast. Will cutting off more than half of the jib change all of their coordinates?

I'm getting close to finished with the wargalleons. It may look a little short, but is close to the same length as the one one the Mordaunt, which I have relaunched.

The Mordaunt could use the flagpole fix also. And then there is FR_Licorne. That one is similar but different also, but still has the flagpole issue.

Hopefully not. I'll cut off the excess but keep the mast in the same position, so all the locators can stay put.

Good point, the Mordaunt has the same problem. I don't see how the Licorne's hull differs from the other WarGalleons, though...

I took one look at it in the hex editor and bailed outta there. It is quite different from the war galleons.

The Mordaunt is a similar ship except that it is a naval vessel, and it has 6 more cannons of the same caliber and over 120 less crew. :eek:k

I'm thinking about giving the East Indiaman 18 pounders and less crew. :hmm

Wow! Using the info in the crew size thread, dropping the cannons from 24lb. to 18lb, and being conservative on the numbers dropped the crew from 520 to 344.

Now to see if it works ok. :b:

Hey hylie, congrats on being retired! Does this mean you'll be doing more mod work now with the build mod? Just curious.

I haven't been working for some time actually. I filed papers last September but finally got my first check 3 days ago. I had no income for 5 months. So I'll be messing around with this stuff at about the same rate as now.

I just checked again, and it looks like the hull is identical to the other WarGalleons, but she has different locators.
The new fixed model should work fine for this ship, as long as the locators are suitably adjusted. :nk

Thanks for working on the crew, also. It did seem a bit odd that the Mordaunt had less crew than the WarGalleons.

Those different locators are because La Licorne has 3 sails per mast instead of 2 like the others. I'll change the hull and fix the locators.

The RN_WarGalleon is far enough along that I will post it on the FTP so you can do the jib.

About the crew.......The crew size remains the same for the ship I have no matter how often I repaint her. Hopefully when I acquire another one it will have the new crew size, which makes her slightly bigger and better armed than the Black Pearl.

That crew size will work for either 18 or 24 pounders.

Thanks for the files. I've now redone the jib model and updated the 'WarGalleon_Upgrade' file in my FTP folder.
I basically removed the entire lower mast of the jib, plus the mast stump, and replaced them with a new mast.
That way, I was able to cut the breaking point so that the two parts fit together seamlessly. The breaking point is now also more realistic.
The main hull model as updated accordingly with the new mast stump, and the jib now uses desk.tga and fightdeck2.tga.

Will post some screenies on ModDB later.

I'm still messing around with La Licorne trying to clutter her up. Dunno when I'll call it quits.

Well that rigging looks brilliant so far! It's nice to have a variation from the regular WarGalleons.
