Hook

Pieter did you put in the fix for the blade damage or does blocking still do 0 damage to the blade?

Ahoy Hook,

Glad your here.

Actually I haven't installed the patch yet, but in the meantime I have repeated the runtime error trying to leave the tavern with fast travel and had two runtime errors in a row going from the sea to the map at Jamaica.

I am operating on the assumption reporting these problems is useful and will help in fixing them and it seems like something is serioulsy fraked in and a round Jamaica.

All bug reports are useful. We may not do anything with them at the time, but they're in the back of our minds when we're in the code. I'll be looking at something probably unrelated and suddenly remember some reported bug and think, "Gosh, I'll bet this line is what's causing that." It makes us pay more attention to code that looks odd. Otherwise I'll think, "Well, it's weird, but it seems to work."

I'm not sure about your run time errors, but Jamaica does have its share of problems.

How can there be Jamaica-only problems? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Q: Is a new game required?
A: Probably. I set the patch to force you to start a new game (just to be sure), though if you want to try to use your previous savegame,
open PROGRAM\globals.c and set IS_SGV back to 14.854 at the bottom of the file. I cannot guarantee this will work right, but you can try.

<!--quoteo(post=311099:date=Apr 5 2009, 06:43 PM:name=Megla)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Megla @ Apr 5 2009, 06:43 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=311099"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Pieter did you put in the fix for the blade damage or does blocking still do 0 damage to the blade?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->I put in part of the fix, but skipped part of it too. The lines you added would relate to the player only, which wasn't my original intention.
What I did do is decrease the blockdamage limit. I think I want to do some slight experimenting with it myself as well. At some point. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Weird. As i recall the function was noncharacter specific. And i do remember Malcom breaking his swords when hitting my block ^^

I might have to check it again, but it looked like you added two lines for +3 and +5 damage within an if-statement that works for the player character only. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Well i told you when the logging was on for those attack counters.

The oponents counbter and my own went up both. And both were loged. So i guessed that those IF functions wernt really character specific.

As far as i can see they work when it got to that log file. The total chance increased bot for me and the guy attacking me at the same ratio.

LogIt("Total chance points = " + total_chance + " for character " + enemy.name + " " + enemy.lastname);

From what I gather from you, the mod DOES work, but the effect isn't big enough for the player.
It happens to other characters occasionally (I've seen it happen), but I haven't noticed it happening even once playing through one whole main quest.
So I hope my dividing the two values by two might have the intended effect; that would basically increase the chances 4 times.
Plus your log message will make it more obvious when it does.

And a runtime error going to the world map B/W Cayman and Aruba

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->How can there be Jamaica-only problems?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I don't know that they are Jamaica only, see above for another runtime error going to the map. I have also gotten shipyard errors in other places, and as Hook suggested they may have something do with swapping ships while at sea. Boarding seems to be working great and the game looks great but if you can't get the sea to the map it is pretty much game killer, diitto swaping ships.

Also no faces in some dialogue boxes and no graphics in my save game list.

Alpha 9 with both patches.

No faces in dialog boxes isn't too much of a problem; I get that too. Still needs to be looked at though, especially for the non-AoP characters!
No graphics in the save game list does sound very worrisome though! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Well, I am playing the old main quest, I haven't been to Barbados to start it. I start with stromy start and the game dumped on Cayman. I was sailing around taking priate ships and had just taken one.

BTW I have teh auto skills system off and started at level 28, but I can't see how that would make any differnce.

The CharacterFromID problem suggests to me that the game tried to find a character that didn't exist. But which character is that and why?
