Build 14 Alpha 9

Thanks Pieter,

And I swaped ships in the ship yard and when I exiited I got the CTD.

I don't have a tracefiles in my engine file what I do have is listed below and when I got yet another CTD in the shipyard on Jamaca I got no error log.

tracefilesoff = 0
[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 1
runtimelog = 1

Even though I followed the installation instructions carefully, I am wondering if I made an error somewhere. Maybe in installing the patch since all these CTDS (which are pretty constant are occurring around Jamaca.

It seems that most of the straight-out CTDs do not generate useful log entries <i>at all</i>, making them much harder to track down and fix. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
Anyway, here's the section from my engine.ini that does generate log files:

tracefilesoff = 0
[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0
runtimelog = 0

Here is what I got after my latest crash on Jamaca

RUNTIME ERROR - file: seadogs.c; line: 767
Save - ARef to non existing attributes branch

That's no reason for a crash, I'm afraid. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

One more thought on these Jamaica CTDs I am getting.

I just got another one and no error log. This one occurred after renting a room in a tavern when the game tried to send me to the room. The others all occur when I am leaving someplace. They are now so frequent that I am prepared to start a new game unless continuing to repeat this frustration will help find and fix bugs.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o)

Is that a notice´d Bug or...why the tavern keeper of Martinique is using the dialog of a trader?

<a href="http://img3.imagebanana.com/view/yvrvf1or/Martinique.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/yvrvf1or/thumb/Martinique.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

Sorry if there is a fix already.

That should've been fixed in Patch 1, available from the first page of this thread. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
BTW: You might want to use the blue interface; the brown one isn't entirely updated to the same point that the blue one is, I think.
But you can keep using the brown one for the time being as long as it works for you.
I am not at all sure to the extent of the possible problems with the brown interface, so it'd be good to find out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Are those CTDs limited to Jamaica only? What happens if you, for example, try to play through the Bartolomeu quest.
I managed to play that one through all the way to the end.

Alas Pieter no, I have just recieved four CTDs in a row in San Juan ship in exactly the same situation I had them on Jamaica. This seems pretty perpetual at this point. I am thinking of reinstalling unless someone has a better idea.

when in the tavern of Port Royale and buy a booze to someone in order to kidnapp him\her, stab him\her, robb him\her etc. etc. the following weird bug shows up:
after the tavernkeeper order me to be a brave boy, my avatar stands up and the screen becomes black.
and my avatar is still there, "lost in space" if you want my opinion, while far away the city of port royale is visible like inside a snow ball.
the avatar can run or walk, but does not move at all.
i tried pressing F8 to save some screenshot, but i find none.
can someone reproduce this?

after having successfull boarded a pirate ship just outside port royale something messed up with the standard storyline: on the pop up asking me if i have decided to sink the pirate ship, i clicked yes, then my ship found herself in the Grand Cayman waters (really do not know how did i reach this location).
i landed, explored the location, and talked to the Governor, Sir Edmund Christobel Shaw who asked me to find her daughter elizabeth for the hefty sum of 40.000 doblons....
i`m playing standard storyline ok?
when i clicked ok, the screen became black.
i had to reboot.

in the shipyard i realized my ship had carronades (24lbs)and not cannons as always showed in the interface (12lbs), is this a bug?
can someone tell me the difference between the two?
thanks.

so, you say it`s the main cause of my "laggish" game?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I won't try to guess if quicksave is causing any lag anywhere. It seems unlikely though.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->actually, every time my avatar steps in a port or city, the lag is there and the sounds skipp endlessly.
but, in the tavern, shop, house, store, in few words, when my avatar is "indoor", the sound is clear and the lag vanishes.
when i come out from any governor palace, here it is again.

`till now, the Jamaica Island is a nightmare for my avatar.
i even tried to move some music file, just to see if the skipping could be related to corrupted file music.
no luck, game stutters anywhere.
can be a loop?
i noticed the CPU on my laptop is stuck at 100% when this happens.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Usually when I'm getting lag like that it's because the game is writing to the error.log file... constantly. Does this lag still happen if your character isn't moving? Could it be related to the stepping sounds?

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->while being boarded (yes, i`m not going to have a shining pirate life, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> ) on my lugger, two men were occupying the same meter square.
this happened in the ship desk, in the cargo hold and in the captain`s cabin.
the other ships were: one cutter and a schooner (yep, i was boarded twice, and theis bug reproduced itself twice also....)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I see that a lot in my game. As long as the characters separate when they start moving, I'm not too worried about it. If they're somehow stuck and can't move, we need to figure out why. It's not just boarding decks. Often a citizen will be generated on top of one of the guards, and you can talk to one but not the other until one moves. Sometimes citizens are generated on top of each other as well. If it needs fixing, someone who understands all the locator code will have to do it.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->after being robbed and having catched the thief, just 1 gold is given back to my avatar.
this happens only when the thief admits to be too much old to go on with this kind of job and the player get two answer:
1)take some of my money
or
2)give me back all my money and see you
both options have the same result: the avatar gains back just one gold.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
So that's where my money goes. Thanks. Some of that code is pretty messy. I'll put it on my to-do list.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->loading a savegame can affect in a strange way your avatar, that is: totally unable to move.

I want to let you know that all the problems I was having with CTDS can probably be traced to an improper installation on my part. I misread instructions and did not remove the program file. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I will now try again.

Sorry for wasteing time.

I have two errors to report in reinstaled game the first one was comming out of the Smuggles Hideout on Grenada I was killed and got the log that said I was waking up but didn't go th the room over the travern and the game froze.

The second is runtime error in the Jamaica Shipyard. It seems likely that something is bugged there.

I have one error log.

RUNTIME ERROR - file: characters\characters_events.c; line: 481
missed attribute: location
RUNTIME ERROR - file: characters\characters_events.c; line: 481

I think it is from the shipyard but I am not sure.

Good Morning,

Today, i found myself in the buccaneers camp on the island "hispaniola", nothing strange in sight until i meet that strange skeleton guy called "Hendrick Vanderdecken"...
So, he offered me some pirate ships but one of that vessel´s looks strange to me:

<a href="http://img3.imagebanana.com/view/djx34gvg/vessel.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/djx34gvg/thumb/vessel.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

I assume that there should be something with "8863"... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

That is the cursed version of the Black Pearl. It is supposed to have such high hitpoints, since it should be invincible.

I don't know what the *** happened to you, but if you ever do get the chance, visit governor Shaw again; he does offer a fun quest.
At some point I was working on improving that quest, but never finished. Still, it's fun and has a nice twist ending. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

Thomas is right; it's the Cursed Back Pearl and she has so many HP points because of the end of the standard storyline, where sinking her is supposed to be a major challenge.
You never do get to sail that ship yourself, except when you buy her from Vanderdecken.
Unless Short Jack Gold game you command of her at some point in the Jack Sparrow storyline; I don't remember. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

There are 3 cursed ships in his inventory if i recall. Every single one of them has atleast 3 or 4 times as much HP as a manowar. Though they have less cannons and crew ^^

Its standard. BTW once you buy a ship from him you get his character model and he gets yours.

@Pieter In alpha 8 they ended up in the harbour.
