@Deep One: A brownout is a significant drop in power - it's the next closest thing to a power outage, but in this case stuff still gets enough power to barely operate. A brownout can be far worse on a computer (or anything else) than the power going out.

@Old Salt: The refinery here sucks power like crazy at night, and I happened to be up late working on an assignment in Paint when the worst brownout I've ever seen (it lasted for almost an hour) happened. After that, that computer never did work quite right <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . Luckily, the store took it back due to other problems I'd been having with it - like only one of its two CPUs working <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> .
