Some suggestions

yes chromide i love this idea..and agree with what u said about stamina...it would be really good...
peiter could u c if it is doable?
also i means there could be another officer slot...Cook...the better your cook means the better the meals ..the beter the meals the higher the morale...or something but its an amazing idea!! a real novelty!

Lol, having a cook would be brilliant. I'm not sure the original game developers would ever have even thought of that!

How about when you escort merchants....on their ship or yours?...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->The officers were just a suggestion. Indeed passengers or companions or even at-sea encounters should then be an option.

However, might make it a bit TOO realistic. What if ur running from someone and your stamina fails just then? Could get annoying, especially if you want to get to somewhere quite quickly... Stamina fits in with all of those other things, such as food and sleep which could make the game too realistic (might as well go out and do it for yourself!)...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->They use stamina in AoP and CoAS, I think. It might work fine gameplay-wise, but the question is how much it'd add based on the effort required. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

The best way of ensuring a mod gets done is to do it yourself. If you want to, we'll try to support you in whatever way we can.
Of course we're also slowly wanting to work towards a finished Build 14, which doesn't work well if we start on 100% new stuff again.
But I do think it would be possibly; it'd probably just require a lot of work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Hey, could you make a horse by joining 2 human models together, to create the four legs ???? Then you could fill in the gaps, give it a texture, and add a head.... Donkeys are a common sight in the Caribbean.

It would be easier to make new models & animations, I think... and even that is too hard to accomplish and bugfix...

I'd love to be able to bury treasure, kinda pointless though.

There should be more random islands. The islands at the moment are really tall and mountainous. I'd quite like to see more of the atoll-like islands that you get in the Caribbean, like those in the Maldives. I sank a couple of the smaller islands into the sea a bit to see what it would look like, and I think it would be cool if someone added some tiny sandy islands, which could be used to hide treasure on, for smugglers to hide on, or for negotiations. A bit like the one Sparrow was marooned on in the film.

Agreed on small, random islands. Especially if you can't see them on the worldmap and have to find them at random.
But who's going to work on it...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

New models and animations would indeed be easier for horses/donkeys.
I think theoretically it should be possible, though it's not going to happen unless somebody does it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I know you are all so busy. So if you could guide me on how to make a small, lowlying island, on a reef, that would be much appreciated. I've done a lot of modding before, but I need someone to tell me how to create a simple place to land. Doesn't even have to be inhabited....

I don't know much about islands. I know their code is in PROGRAM\ISLANDS and models in RESOURCE\MODELS\Islands, but that's about it.
You would need to make a new island model, I imagine, and then get that saved as GM. Are you familiar with 3D modeling?

I've done a bit in this game, but I was thinking about sinking another island model into the sea, then retexturing the bit showing as a sandy outcrop. I need someone to tell me how to put it ingame, I was gonna do it with the "tool". Also, if someone could tell me how to make the new texture apply only to this island as I was gonna edit an original. Thanks! If that fails, how do you make a new model?

Why? I don't know... that model came from CoAS, I think.
You can use a HEX Editor to change the texture names used by a GM model file.

I'm gonna put trees on the shores of all the islands when you sail to them, rather than just flat textures. Looks better already!

Certainly: <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=11380" target="_blank">Tools, Tutorials and Information</a> .
Notepad++ can be used as a HEX Editor too, if you install the correct plugin.

sounds really good...i would happily give the officers thing a good shot..however i have done alot of modding on other games so know the drill (Stargate Empire at War) and i have done basic stuff with irates but i would need a good guide to show me how to set up the coding to have dinner with the officers...anyone in mind??

also i will soon have a lot of time to burn cos i will soon be finishing exams and will have an extended summer...so if i get to grips with all this coding i will be able to put alot of time intp this mod
again i stress the need to be taught how to do this though...
thanks

If you would want to work on it, we're all willing to help and support you.
The best thing to start with is to think up a plan of exactly what you want to achieve and how it would have to work ingame.
Post your plan in a new thread and we'll all try to pitch in and give you some suggestions on how it could work code-wise
and where you might find similar code to what you're looking for.

Just a suggestion, there's a dialog for the tavern where you join someone for a bottle of rum, and have the options to either order more or leave, that could help you....

Indeed, I was thinking exactly that too Chromide. The tavern code or its related files would be where one could the logic for sitting, then it should be a matter of figuring out logic for development of a conversation.

Initially I'd say this would be something useful as a set piece type of thing, but will be a lot more involved to code to make the conversations interactive on their own.

But as a plot piece, or something that would eventually get boring because its always the same would be fairly simple. You could definitely have it as a location to get additional rumors or advance an existing quest, it would be very useful.

Would be a whole lot more work to create an AI system that would make the conversations actually dynamic.

Would be really wild if it was done, but piles of work.
