Yesterday I played for about two hours. Finished quest on Downsen (girl kidnaped by pirate) and start "Strange things going in the arcipelago". Get some pirates mission from Duch governator and sunk or boarding about 5 enemy ship (France and Pirates). Everything working well without CTD.

Just found a bug that I've already seen in old Postbuild version:
During navigation in world map, with half rum ration set, with US Heavy Frigate, when rum is next to expired (2 units) the game becomes freezing and I've to kill the game (this problem occurs one time).

Thanks a lot Giuliootto. I got it from the FTP now. (BTW: It was on the old FTP, the new one is at ftp.piratesahoy.org). I'll have holiday next week, so I should be able to do some work on the Post Build 12/Pre Build 13 versions. I will have lots of work for school too, so I don't know how much I actually will be able to do... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Having started a couple of new games I noticed a couple of things about the trouble we are having at the begining.

Disappering officers, the random change of blades and the disappearing cargo: All thos problems seem to eliminate themselves once you have been to sea.

Pieter, there are some weird things happening now....on land and sea....here are some pictures of one of my officers after equipping her with the Beatrice skin.....they looked identical so I had to buy a new skin for one of them....

Never Mind....Why can we not send pictures here anymore....it saves alot of typing and too much F'ING imagination.....she is deformed and has this weird tall, "drive-in" theater screen being towed around with her.....it stretches up for about 25 feet in game distance and leaves lines the same distance along the ground. Almost like a radianting brown curtain


Also the battle scenes are becoming to bug ridden to even continue trying to play this game, fight a ship and instead of capturing her after boarding, you sail away, and they continue on their merry way even after clapping their skipper in irons and pillaging their whole damn boat....with one of your officers on board to boot....so went after another with a Vengeful Heart in my chest...and about the time I should have boarder her....the game crashes...

Also half of the time I go to shore on Q.C. the game runs on....if I get tired and tap on buttons, after 10 minutes of staring at screen, it loads up some save in my directory and you lose everything that you had up until then......the save usually is and old one, not the new ones I'm trying to start now...the buttins i hit are usually Enter, or Spacebar.....

Pieter, there is something wrong with the loading screens for Q.C. I can't even test our theory on Artois because frankly , I have gone there a zillion times today.....and can't get pass the loading screen....just keep hearing the Anchor dropping sound...which is good, to hear...but then It would be nice to see the shoreline afterward..

I remember someone writing recently about fixing the going ashore stuff so that we had to drop sails as well before we could anchor.....well it aint working. This is what CCC got so mad at, the last time he was online here.....people not documenting their changes and ruining stuff that was already working...

PotCMods.zip was a very old version of the Post Build 12 mods. You can get the newer versions from the PA! main download page and my website.

Me and Maximus changed the dropping of the anchor. It takes a longer while now and I did mention this in a previous post. It shouldn't prevent you from going to shore at all though. I added a toggle on this mod as well, so you can turn it off.

There are lots of crazy things with the current modpack version. I have a new version here that should have some things fixed. I am going to test it for a bit and release it probably later today if I find it working.

CCC said he wouldn't be quite as active here anymore until Autumn.

After many hours without CTD, I'm sorry to report another CTD when fight occurs in port.
I'm just arrived in Oxbay port after that this is returns in English hands, I've saved the game when I arrived (and get regards from Merchant that I scorted here). After few second a fight occurs and in few second after the game crashed.

I try to reload the saved game and all time have a CTD with the following error:

According to Maximus, he hasn't had any troubles during 3 days of testing. I have tested myself for a small bit and didn't encounter any serious trouble yet. The cargo stays put in the cargo hold anyway. I also went to QC to see what happens with Artois and Nigel, but it seemed to work just fine. Not sure about any other issues.

When you choose a nation, you will start at that nation's island. Your ship will be there with you. There was a bug where your ship could be at Douwesen, but you would be at Oxbay when you'd play the tutorial, but I now made it so that you will always skip the tutorial if you don't play as Englishman, because you need to skip the tutorial for everything to work properly when not being Enlglish. Some things in this mod might need changing though:
- Malcolm's dialog still assumes you start at Oxbay
- You can't play the tutorial when you are not English
- You get chocolate to sell for money, but when you start at, say, Douwesen, the chocolate will be worth much less than on Oxbay

Not sure Pieter if this would have anything to do with the errors or CTD's at Oxbay, but I notice something particularly strange there my last game......MALCOLM HATCHER died! I thought as the Tutorial "Guy" so to speak he stayed there and always help out if you were there. Could this be what the error log was reporting, He might be this NPC that can't be loaded.....Is he supposed to stay immortal

Well I think we are making a lot of progress. I have played about four hours today with the newest update.

First the problems:

There may be something going on with Reputation again. PLaying off stromy start, capturing ships who are hostile, killing people who are hostile to me, picking up sruvivors and my reputation is going down, down, down. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Somitmes, ships you are attack are crewed by uniformed sailors soldiers, sometimes not.

I picked up some oil somewhere, that I can't get rid of.

Some occasional freezes for no apparent reason.
Rapid Raid is not working, but I think you said you left it out for now.

Now the good:

No apparent CTDs!

Cargo and ship damage is right at the begining!

Officers are right!

Blade damage is working perfectly!

Boarding is working except for the costume problem mentioned above.

<b>Lots of great new features that we didn't really have time to celebrate while looking for CTDS and other crippling problems!</b>

Great new sounds!
Great new cannon graphics!
New gunpowder as cargo!
New baording decks and surrender/ransom. Wow.
Oh and let's not forget the New Islands completion and that great stuff on St. Martin's. And lot's more that I am probably forgeting.

OK.....now for my bad news

I noticed while playing the last three updates and new starts each time, one still annoying, and seemingly progressive bug......crew/men are disappearing at a fantastic rate. they just wash away. Couple of night ago plus with 22nd update, was running from three frenchmen outside Oxbay....they shot at me a couple of times...bowchaser stuff....but didn't register any hits....few splashes around my hindquarters......but later when I put to sea somewheres else, and got into battle......my full of men ship before I left harbor, were gone...had like 20 to 30 men.....thought well thats strange....Maybe I forgot in all my restarts to get men....I always when testing play the tutorial....but hey...i'm human

Last night, I left Oxbay under french colors, as I put out to sea, I tried to raise my proper rag, but these new updates will not allow me to raise any other nations flags accept my Jack Sparrow one. So down comes the French rag and Up goes my personnal flag. This pleases the English ships that are sailing around getting pasted by the Fort, and now the French occupiers ( the Three guarding Warships ) have raised sails and are in pursuit....Sometimes they fire, but I'm aways down the coast.....as I approach Greenford, I see a Warship ahead, but before I get to it, it hauls down its colors and surrenders, because it was getting shot up by Greenford Forts, I guess....so the Boarding icon comes up, but I am not near it yet so keep sailing, I dont want to use "sailto"....when I get to it, almost inside Greenford harbor I board it.....And have to fight my way through three decks to get to the captain......THIS IS ON A SURRENDERED SHIP......WHY????? @&$%#*$&$^#........THIS MAKES NO SENCE!!! Now I put in too PORT, I shouldn't have because there were some nice pirate and English ships surrendered to the still following french warships, just floating around outside the island, just waiting for somebody like me to come scoop them up...I was thinking of just sailing right round the Island and get them while them three frenchman follow me....( little trick I learned ) I put into port.....went to repair my ships...I had full 185 crew....the warship less than 200 out of 400. Came back out, went round the Island ( knew that everything had been reset ) and engaged one of the three frenchmen, a nice fine Frigate...Cleopatra, I believe......and low and behold I had very few men after I captured her...she fired on me once, before I boarded.....Now this is just F'ing Stupid...where the hell did all my men go. Now I know I not crazy...this time I filled up to 185 before leaving Port. Attacked the other frigate, crashes during boarding....there goes that game

Tonight, brand new start......recent today updates installed.....I leave Oxbay ( by the way, the computer stills puts on armor and equips my character automatically when I enter Oxbay Gates, and sometimes while boarding other Ships.... ( I notice this because I hate my Jack Sparrow skin in Armor ) I sail out from Oxbay again....same idea....( OK, So I like it ) Go to raise English colors....nope again won't let me....( MEMO TO ONE SELF....got to remember to report that to Pieter ) so again up goes the J.S. Colors.....again the French start in pursuit...but this time there are only two little English ships around and they put to sea and are away.... So I sail around to Oxbay....go to Port ( figure, when I come out...ships will be changed maybe ), buy some shit, add new officer, still have full crew <----- {VERY IMPORTANT POINT} Leave Port, and low and behold there are a whole bunch of English small Ships around the Port of Oxbay and in my "Sailto" outlook around the island....two finally, surrended to gunfire...think French Fort at Oxbay...man they fire along ways over the Islands there....so I sail up to a surrendered yacht, and changing to J.S. flag...still can't raise other colors.....I board Yacht......Go right to the Captain... NO FIGHTING!!!!....tell him to give me money and sit in my Hold.....Check the treasure boxes, leave.........BUT WAIT......I can't put one of my Officers on board Prize Ship....Why Not You Ask ????? Funny You Should Ask.....Because I have not got enough Crew to put into two boats.....He has only got 6 men left on the Yacht....and I got 8 left on my Corvette. IMPOSSIBLE.....the prize sinks, I hit F2....nope I got 8 men....8 lousy men...thats it. So I lost 2 prizes, ( cause boarding the other one floating there didnt give me enough either ) and a whole bunch of men to new start with brand new update and one Supposedly everyone else has reported today to be a Bug free version....this one played for 4 hours...this one played for 6 hours....bullshit

Think I'm going on to something else...this is garbage

1) the loading screens into different Ports seem better, I loved hearing the Anchor go all the way down to the water before going ashore, So this seems to be working fine now Pieter.........have not got to Q.C. yet....may never now...I am totally frustrated after testing for almost three weeks for CTD's and now little things continue to ruin the game for me....dozens of restarts garbaged because of men drain, crashes during sea battles, at least until tonight...tonight I quit...but still no crashes.

2) the warship when I left the captains cabin, after capturing it in the earlier game....found myself floating around without cabin......sidesteped and was back on again....Might be just the one ship type, seen this reported earlier somewhere, but seems isolated for more than one type of ship or something, not common error yet. Somewheres in another part of this forum, I want to say maybe Merciless Mark...found a ship that had bad locators, when he left a cabin....if it was a warship this would prove my theory right.....

3) Flags are still not working somewhere.....I should be able to raise any and all colors depending on What "I" want to do....not the BUILD

4) starting to love the sword damge mod....if you raise it in buildsettings.h to an exceptable level like 300 or 500, it works better...swords are downgrading but not during one battle.

5) sound issue...when scrolling through inventory....does anyone else get different ticking noises like maybe an echo or like something is broke??

6) still some issues with boarding and sea battles....the drain of men is one major issue, and I can't for one moment think that no one else does not have this..... I think no one elses has noticed so far would be better description, anyway...the barrels and chests on all the new ships boarding screens have Powder......found 4 or more on one ship...each had 7000 plus powder....but after the capture....I only had 7000 plus powder....math not right here! Inside barrels they all have large amounts of powder and sometimes one or two items like small yellow barrel or powder flasks... I like this because they are a little earlier than waiting for merchants to get them...BUT why not have them like origianal ships and have one for powder and the rest with treasure or items. And I have had a couple crashes during the last few nights playing all around ship battles....but none on land...go figure!

OH YA....almost forgot....when looking through my Spyglass....ALL SHIPS.......Even the French ones outside harbor in Oxbay, have the "Portugese Flag" in the description...you know at the very first of the string down below that tells you what nation, how many crew, hull points, guns, etc....etc... well no shit...they all have Portugals icon or flag there....without the glass you see the frecnh ones on the m,ast, or the English ones...but not when you switch to glass...I tried it out a lot

It's available from <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=59&Itemid=26" target="_blank">this</a> page. If the game won't run after applying the latest update, download the attached file as well and put it in PROGRAM\STORE. For some reason, some people have trouble with not having the right version of that file, though I don't understand why. :wacko
 
I have a few bugs to report that I think need some attention.

The first I have mentioned before. It does appear that attcking any ships, be they priate or enemies reduces your rep. I went from Bloke to Rascal off Redmond by taking 2 priates and 2 Spanish both as enemies.

Second, playing a British off stormy start at Redmond. Any time I encounter <b>British </b> ships at sea or in the harbor they are <b>hostile to me even though I am flying a British flag and my relations are set to neutral. </b>

Third we are loosing crew to fast in encounters. With morale high and plenty of food my Light Frigate exchanged cannon fire (my 3 to his 1) with a Shanyava. I lost over 100 crew.

Fourth, also as mentioned, most but not all ships of nations are crewed by civilians (priates). I have priate coast guard on, but these are not coastguard ships.

It occurs to me that some of the above may just be settings?
 
many ppl have talked about loosing crew and realism, there is one problem that seems to be overlooked, is that the abilities affect it too, theres abilities that both minimize and deal more crew damage and hull damage, defensive and offensive abilities, its very difficult to balance it so that it becomes realistic without making the abilities obsolete.

It's entirely my fault and I'm still working on fixing it (for over a month)... Once I thought I finally found the problem but when I tested the game it turned out that this still persisted. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I understand it happens at the beginning, but is it when you leave Oxbay to inform Silehard about French invasion or before that invasion? What with other nation neutral to British, Portugal, are they also hostile?

I'm sorry for trouble. I'll try to fix it as soon as I learn what's going on.
