Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

Well, I think we left off with that name because the first name does suggest royalty, which Mercer definitely is not, and the second name was meant to remind him of his piratical family, of which he is deeply ashamed (and Sparrow later teases him about when he learns his middle name - there is a whole backstory with that concerning Teague Sparrow ripping off Mercer's family in the past) and drives him to be the obsessed anti-pirate maniac that he is.

Hmmmm nice explanation.
Yeah...we can go with that name.
Im for that one. I can totaly see Jack making fun of it. ;D

Well, its not written in stone. We can keep chipping in ideas. Nothing is set as of now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Sorry guys i havnt been checking in, i am INSANELY busy at the moment. We are about to get pummeled by a snow-storm so hopefully i will be staying home tomorrow.

I think we all have been busy the last few days. No problem. Hope you survive that snowstorm. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

Ah, Mercer is smart, that snow-storm is no match for him. And BTW Chuck Norris is passing through, and is staying here at my house for the storm. So if the storm comes knocking, Chuck Norris will kick it back into space. :p

Concerning Teague Sparrow ripping off Mercer's family heirlooms along with the rest of the mob, it is a nice way to explain Mercer's animosity toward Jack. We have to figure out how Mercer found out that Teague Sparrow was one of the thieves. Being that he's very thorough and will have no doubt tracked down the names of all who stole from him, even though he may never have retrieved his valuables, he may have sought and indeed exacted revenge on those people, but obviously Teague slipped away. Does Mercer now have his own agenda to carry out with Jack, apart from Beckett?

Everybody who has time, check in here and say what time you can devote. Next week will be much less busy for me... And i am doing nothing this weekend.

That is an interesting idea, that is definately worth exploring.

Teague will become a bigger part of Mercer's background story and this could also give him a bigger role in our script.

I am not sure if Keith Richards is up to a major role in acting. Hey, maybe. I would like to see it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But I dont know... I dont think Mercer is crazy, he just has an extreme hatred for Teague. Wouldnt you? I mean if someone took all of your heirlooms wouldnt you be angry?

I have to admit, I wasn't even thinking of Keith Richards. This is a prequel several years earlier, I'm sure another english actor could be found. I hear ya, though.
Sure, Mercer would be angry at Teague. And that leads to his residual hatred of Jack.

We don't actually have to show any of tha in the film; just hint at it through dialog. I don't like different actors playing the same character, so I wouldn't like Teague making an actual on-screen return. I think it's a safe bet that Keith Richards wouldn't be available for a role. And in any case that should probably be unique to AWE anyway.

Well, it would be more of a flashback role, with the actor in the shadows for the most part, but it would work to just have allusions to it in the dialogue as well.

Personally I can't see it being important enough to warrant a flashback, but I do think such a flashback scene might look interesting. I like your description of the actor in shadows. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Its a nice way to conceal that it may be a different actor. A lot of quick camera movements and shadows. Of course, since this is only part of Mercer's back story, we need not go there as you point out. If we want to at all, if this develops any further, we can make it quick. I would like to have some reference to it though, it fills in Teague a little more in any event.

Yep, it fills in the backstory for Teague and Mercer. So we can tell all of the sources everywhere about it. And Pieter, do you have the script page up here? Because i have it on my scriptwriting software, but everyone cant see it.

There have been no flashbacks in the PotC films so far. There was only the dream starting the first film. It seems that it is sort-of extablished that the PotC films don't use flashbacks. Of course we can either stick to that or not... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Mercer, check the link on the first page. It's working, as Old Salt points out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
