Ideas for the future!

I have a possible idea (or two) for the future. But I am not sure .... maybe I am just outta luck. Ever since I play iron man style, I NEVER have encountered a group of ships, that exceeds the number of four. When playing world map, one might very well encounter fleets of around eight ships. This seems to be just not possible in iron man mode/direct sail and it's a pity.

Another thing (though I am not sure if it is the case already or not): Merchantmen, which roam the waters of certain islands, should be more likely to carry goods, that are either imported or exported to/from that island. That would not only represent the demanded and exported goods in a realistic fashion. It would also allow pirates to pick their spots based on what traded goods are expected to be more likely in certain waters. So if one looks for value, he would terrorize waters where lots of precious metals and woods are likely to be traded. If one is in desperate need for more practical resources, he would go where planks, Sailcloth and the like are transported.

Now that I am at it: Why not implement smugglers as ships (or maybe even as a party with an own standing/relation towards)? Smuggling ships should be loaded with contraband goods from the island where they are spawned. Their ships would mostly be coastal ships (tier not higher than 6 or 5) and they would be armed to the teeth.

I like the idea of bringing some purpose to the various ships in the game, but that wouldn't be easily accomplished.
The worldmap generating system isn't made for that and DirectSail just uses a simplified version of the Worldmap system.
This would require some figuring out. But if we DO manage it some time.... how about a Treasure Fleet? :cheeky

The encounters code is.... weird. Looked at it a few weeks ago, but it seemed to be doing all sorts of things it wasn't supposed to.

Treasure fleet would be awsome. And it would be accurate to place it in the spanish main and the early explorers periods. This would allow daring expeditions and exploits ... Sir Francis Drake style!

But unfortunately all new stuff has to wait until the old stuff WORKS. :facepalm

I'd LOVE to be able to expand the game for real, instead of just fixing stuff ad fixing more stuff and when I'm done with that.... fix some stuff. :modding

Who knows if it ever will be perfect? It is amazing enough what you guys managed to do with the game, in spite of not being able to hardcode anything.

Choosing which ship to board helps with getting cargo. When approaching a ship look at how she rides in the water. If she is riding high she is empty, but if she is sitting low.......

I'd settle for the Beta 3 WIP 15 version to fixed to be playable without REALLY bad bugs anymore. Right now, these three are NOT funny:
Code:
Saint Martin: Philipsburg
False Flag Relations
Weird boarders

Ideas for the future, hmmn.. How 'bout making the tavern music in moderate speed and when there is a bar fight make it fast like in the PotC II. But only in the tavern. hehehe. Just a thought.

I think we should try not to do too many new things while we fix up what we've got. :facepalm

I am not prob first guy who will ask u this question but how do u say about having more ships in your fleet not just 4? Like 8 or as much as u can pay :) i know that when u have 4 battleships and when u have like 3k crew u had to pay like 200 k per month and a lot of food and rum but more ships would bring more money. Like having 5,6,7 manila galleons that can have 9 k capacity (put them with few warships if u want) that would bring huge amounts of money and then if just want to destroy something u bring all your warships from all yours islands and give them hell. I am saying that people can play with as many ships as they like just make it possible to make fleets as big as u can.

Pirate_KK did some partially finished coding on that, but we can consider ourselves very fortunate if we managed to finish what we've got without adding more new stuff.

Having a large fleet looks nice, until they all start crashing into eachother and knocking bowsprits off. Also, the economy is not set up for ships that large. Even Havana can be cleaned out with 2 large galleons. With the largest ships it is a waste of time to visit most ports.
