Ideas for the future!

The 42 Pounder carronades follow the same "rule" as the lighter carronades: A caliber less than the long guns. So you need minimum caliber 32 on the ship for these. By stock, that is only the Endeavour and the Victory. And the Dutchman, but she should really get her own cannons :p

What we also could do: There is a #define for the reinforced-Hull tuning that would allow install bigger calibers on the ship.. but I tested it sometime ago and it didn't work.

I know US design ships allow one calibre higher than other ship designs. That's something, at least.
People shouldn't be using this all over the place anyway.

OR.... what if we remove the "MaxCaliber" restriction at Vanderdecken altogether?
Install fort guns on a Gunboat? :rofl

:D well, I think that would go too far.. imagining what even a simple Lugger could do with the bestialic cannons from the Dutchman... o_O I think adding more ship-tuning is quite difficult, isn't it? That would require changing the whole interface :facepalm
But maybe we could allow ships 1 caliber step more? Don't know if this is possible.
I could also simply edit a few large ships, so the 42 pounders could be used a bit more often.
The other cannons are not really intended for normal ships/gameplay by me :no

Hmm... I could imagine it being quite fun to have a super-powder cannon on a gunboat though. Up to the player, no? :cheeky

well, right its the players decision. BUT there's one little point: I made the Dutchman's cannons really cheap, because they originally should be installed right away. And because the Dutchman is already expensive enough, I made them so cheap that you will gain money.. but thats easily fixed, if we really want this :D

But I like the idea :D A little armed Tartane that sinks a SotL? :D why not :rofl

I made them so cheap that you will gain money.. but thats easily fixed, if we really want this :D
That might be because you missed out on some of my fix-code. I put it back in. ;)

Though I don't think they should be cheap. Vanderdecken is NOT cheap! :whipa

no, I didn't missed uot the code.. I just made them cheap in the cannons_ini.c
They only cost 100 bucks I think^^
You're right I guess.. If you want to have the full firepower of the Dutchman, you should pay for that :D
Wow.. What if you put these cannons on 100-cannons-ships :D It would be possible to destroy 3 ships in a row I guess :D

I managed it; Vanderdecken will sell you ANY cannons regardless of your ship's Max Caliber. :razz

Also, I got the interface picture and "128lbs" text to show up for the Dutchman too.

Is 10.000 what you want? I just set it for 6000: still 1000 more than the fort cannons.

awesome modification :D
well.. If you looked into it you'll see why.. the Cannons are the most cruel weapons in the whole game.
9.1 Damage Multiplier!

And Vanderdecken will happily allow you to install them on a gunboat! :rofl
For 20000 a piece, that is. Plus commerce modifiers.

We don't have to limit these to the Flying Dutchman only, do we? But we could have the Dutchman be equipped with them by default.
Just hope that you never have to face her in battle! :shock

Isn't that a bit much? I know it's supposed to be a "supernatural" cannon, but calling it a 128-pounder makes it sound ridiculous.
I still don't think the Pearl or Dutchman should get any special treatment, but if we must include these guns, then surely they should be called something else?

I just went with Pillat's files; that's what he has it set up as.
And of course it is ridiculous. Very much so. But you can only get them from Vanderdecken and they're very expensive.

What we could do is to not have them installed on the Flying Dutchman by default.
And if you've got any ideas on how to make the values a bit more reasonable, be sure to let me know.
I'm quite willing to make it look somewhat believable-like.

On the other hand, there seem to be quite a few people who want CRAZY cannons on their ships.
Having some already in the game would save them the trouble of editing the game files themselves.
I might be able to change the display text to something like "SPECIAL GUNS" instead of listing a calibre at all.
Would that be better?

Just changing the name sounds good to me. I would suggest "Disney Guns", but your suggestion is probably better. :cheeky

They should fire little "mickey mouses" then! :rofl

but your suggestion is probably better. :cheeky
Turns out that the font used for that text is the "bold numbers" one. The only text characters that has are "l", "b" and "s".
So my "Special" displays as "l". Only other options we have:
"0 lbs"
"99 lbs" (just to indicate they're NOT normal)
Something with a "%", ".", "-" or "/" in there

Unfortunately a bit more restrictive than I had hoped. :facepalm

Edit: It DOES show properly in other interfaces. Just not the Shipyard Cannons one.
If we use a name that doesn't have any of those characters in it, they could just be nameless there and have the name we want everywhere else.

The cost for a complete set of ridiculous cannons is now 1.468.096 gold at the lowest character level. That's.... quite a bit. :wp
It goes down to 999.340 gold with all skills and abilities.

And a super-powered gunboat would be more than 96545 for the 5 guns they have.
Plus you get 29700 back if you want ONLY the bow cannon to work. That is still 66845 gold for the one cannon. :rofl

Well the Flying Dutchman's cannons are already only shown as "Carronade" in the ship-interface... why not doing that for Vanderdecken, too? Maybe we can ask Cassadar if he does a nice interface-image, which with you will notice that these are no normal cannons. Also, can we put a description in the place were the reload-time and gunpowder are enlisted?

Well, there's still something that overrides that. I know, that you get only the 4-pounders if you start with the Dutchman, and I'm certainly sure that this also goes for when you buy her.
