Solved Fixing the Build Mod Ships

The caravel1 has a wooden gun on it. I've heard that it is easy to fix, but don't know how.
 
Probably use the wrong deck/desk texture in the _deck.gm file. Can be fixed with a HEX Editor.
 
LOL! I'm going to need a lot more information than that. I can hex edit, but i don't know what to edit.


I stumbled across another caravel that I missed before. Don't hardly know where to start on it.
 
I think you'll find most of the parts in the 'caravel1_deck' GM are using the wrong texture.
Open the file in the HEX editor, and find 'deck.tga'. Replace it with 'desk.tga'.
Then, find 'dec1.tga', and replace with 'deck.tga'. Save it, and that does the trick. ;)
 
I just picked up the Amsterdam. Since it might have been the first ship I ever did there is probably more that can be done to it now that I have a little more knowledge. The goal is to get back to the big ships that I could never get to before because the game engine kept crashing.
 
I'd noticed that after doing a new re-install(Build Mod 14 full+patch 6 full+patch 7 wip 2) that many of Hylies excellent fixes for the ships were not in the latest patches, the luggers flags were all back on the main mast for example! So i hope for the next patch we can get all these ship updates he's put on the ftp, they have made a huge difference to my GA instances as well.

Yes, the Luggers at least should be in everybody's install. The new ones cut down the GA dramatically. A few others like the barks, brigs, and cutters also make a difference. It's a shame that most people will have to wait till almost Christmas to get them.


Armada did a great job on the light frigates. You will like them. His work on the spankers project is vital. I just got the Boussole and am 99.9% sure its spanker is wrong. Another project ship! :urgh

I agree about the Hylie's rigging work; it really enhances the ships' appearance!

I've done some minor modelling support for a couple of ships that Hylie has improved, and I intend to do more if that to more ships, eventually.
I'm currently giving the stock Corvettes (Light frigates) a proper facelift, to improve upon what I've already done, which was essentially fixing someone else's work.
It's just a personal endeavour of mine to practice some modelling techniques, and I'll post about that in the Modelling forum soon. ;)

I just got the last reward ship, the Surprise. I can't see it! The deck is just above the bottom of my screen. And it's spanker is off too. Oh well, it should fetch a pretty penny at the shipyard.

Well it's one of those cases where you look at something and think "It's just not right", and do something about it.
For instance, the ship now has a proper keel, a better shaped bow, better cannons, a better wheel, a new lifeboat, and several other realistic details.
The cannons are even taken straight from the boarding deck which resembles a corvette, so things are more uniform.
I'll get some screenies as soon as I get the ship out of Maya. For some reason, certain parts turn invisible in Maya when viewing the ship with its textures, so that's the reason for the wait.

As for the skins, I don't know what to do about them. :facepalm
Maybe I can convince Legendary_Spider to have a look at them when he's done with the Pearl and QAR, but it will be a tough job upgrading those textures.

Is that the newest Surprise? The camera locator was adjusted to compensate for the global camera adjustment, so you need to reverse that.
What's this about the spanker being off??? I thought it was fine... :?
 
I'm using the ship folder and shipsinit.c from patch 6 with patch 7 so I didn't get all messed up trying to merge everything together. Saved a lot of time too. So, It's probably an earlier Surprise, and it had the same camera problem as the East Indiaman, San Felipe, Le Courrone, Spanish War Galleon, and others of being on the bottom of the screen. I can't see the water around them. I got 151,000P for it too. :hmm
 
Oh, that camera problem. I thought you meant 1st person, not 3rd person. Never mind. :rolleyes:

Everyone likes to get their ego stroked, but this isn't about that.

The luggers are a generic fix that everyone needs, like the bump.zap. I complained about the GA for a year and a half before they got fixed and they do make a big difference. It bothers me that others are still living with the bad ones months later when they don't have to be. Leave me out of it but get them out there.

My current fleet are class1,2,3,and 4 ships as I'm gearing up for Cozumel and there are still Luggers all over the place. The new ones are a win/win as they put less load on the hardware while reducing GA.
 
No worries, mate. Indeed I agree people do need to get those luggers.
Having two masts but only code for one mast is definitely going to cause mess-ups. :facepalm
