Solved Fixing the Build Mod Ships

You might want to take a look at the stats of the different versions of the Revenge.

Revenge 1 is a cargo version while Revenge 2 has a larger crew and smaller cargo and Revenge 3 is the only one with the same crew size of 250 as the original Revenge. I was just guessing at cargo capacity.
 
Do the new Revenge ships have stats comparable to the old Galleon5 versions?
 
I just acquired a light frigate and will now be able to look at your hull Armada. Do you still want me to work on it?

Speaking of rigging, I noticed your work on the Heavy Frigates didn't make Patch 7. Your improvements were uploaded, weren't they?

The heavy frigate is not finished, and will not be until I can acquire one, so it has not been uploaded yet. :eek:ops2
 
I was thinking that once I get to actually cleaning up the ship models folder, it'd probably be easiest if people stop adjusting ships_init.c and the ships model folder until Beta 2 is released.

However, what I WOULD like to see become a priority is that we take all already-released ships (mainly Pgargon's, for one thing) and have them included in Beta 2.

Hylie Pistoff, what is that ship on the horizon? She doesn't seem to have any pennants, but the only ship that shouldn't have them is the Soleil Royal and that isn't her. :shock

Which one is from "a few months ago"? The one which added new gunport hatches, cannons, and deck details?
That one came from a bunch of ships Craiggo gave me ages ago, which I believe he acquired from a Russian mod.
The new hull is my own modified version based on that Russian hull, which I redesigned to look more 'native' to our game, rather than the Russian mod.

Pieter: When a ship surrenders its flags/pennants go all whacko. I just happen to have before and after pics of that action. The ship is a class 2 East Indiaman. You can see that its flags/pennants are fine until it surrenders.

Getting Pgargon's ships in POTC shouldn't be too hard except that I can't see them, so their sails will be really ugly. He has a habit of attaching the sail control ropes to the keel.


Armada: Yes, the ones that were worked on in July. The newest hull, from your "content for patch 7" folder has lights and such that will be deleted unless you want to keep them. The deadeyes line up with the tall masts better.

This won't take too long.

The install with the heavy frigate WIP files no longer has a working console and that game died, so I have to work my way back up to it.

What do you mean by "lights and such"? Locators? You might as well leave them be for now, so the ship can be ported to CoAS without any modifications.

AH! She's a surrendered ship! That explains everything; I couldn't make out that the flags were all white at that distance.
Pennants for surrendered ships aren't coded in; never were. At least it's not any bizarre effect that I wasn't aware of, so that's OK. :doff
 
Here is an update on the light frigates. They've been hexed except for the cursed corvette, and progress is being made upstairs.

The vants on the main masts are set to the same locations as on HMS_Indefatigable if anyone is interested in getting a head start on the walk file.

Those deadeyes are very time consuming. :nk
 
Nice work so far! The only thing you might need to do is move the mizzenmast down a bit, but adjust the spanker to stay where it is now.

Hmm, I sense a subtle hint here... :urgh
I think it would be easiest to make the walk file once the whole ship is done, to be honest.
 
Arrggh. I spent some time getting that particular mizzen and putting it there. The only other option is to replace it with a bigger one.


The deadeyes are picky about how they are located, and then the vants need to be fitted just so, and I can't see them in GMViewer, so it is in and out of the game over and over and over.

I'm used to making a lot of changes, looking at them in GMViewer, and making more changes. Pretty quick.
 
Ah, no I meant the mizzen would look better if it were shorter. I was suggesting you move two locators:
  1. The geometry locator for Mast4 should go down a bit
  2. The geometry locator for the spanker should be moved up by the same amount.
Does that make sense? :shrug

You were talking about the mizzen mast and I was talking about the mizzen sail. :facepalm

That screenie was at a bad angle to show mast height. So we now have 2 mizzen sails to choose from. Which looks best? I'm going to give these old eyes a rest today and just sail around.
 
OK, glad that's cleared up. :cheeky

I prefer the first screenie's configuration, since the lower yard on the mizzen sail is closer to the spanker (which is more realistic, I think).
The only reason I suggested lowering the whole mast is because the fighting top (where the vants meet the mast) is higher on the mizzen than the mainmast, which doesn't look right. :shrug
 
Well, the light frigates are on hold. That install is gone, but I did save the frigate files. The setup you prefer has a mizzen sail from some other ship and is the only one that fits that mast well without having a spar hanging out in midair. The other one is the stock mizzen sail adjusted so it fits that mast. When I get a frigate in this new install I will look into lowering the mizzen mast.



In other news I just discovered that in the transition from the old FTP to the new one, the barque 1, 2, 3_50, and 4_47 files didn't make it. These are kinda sorta important ships that are players in some of the quests. I hastily put them on the FTP and will look at them to make sure they are the good ones.
