Solved Fixing the Build Mod Ships

I had to go back to build 13 to find a lower waterline of -0.3 I have one install that hasn't been touched in a year or so. It's build 14 patch 3 or 4 and the waterline is -0.8 Been a while since you played? :wp
Setting her back to -0.3 looks a lot better to me. :doff

Ok. Looking at GMViewer and screenies, the waterline is pretty close now. Maybe she sits a hair high. But she is your ship. :dance

I'm through crying in my beer now and have created a plain patch 6 install just for converting ships into POTC. :j3 Now to try the Lyon Hoy again.......... :8q

This is my desktop now. Turning in to take the prize in the last battle of my longest career. Notice the date.

The Lyon Hoy didn't crash the game, but it doesn't work either. Neither do the F11 or F12 buttons.

That options folder needs some serious debugging. It took 7 runs through it before the controls started working. :rumgone

The Lyon is now in POTC but needs a ton of work. So far my attempts at installing the walk file results in a ctd. Plus it has flag/pennant and fal/rope problems.

Onward thru the fog!

What's up with the "options" file? And what happens when you try to use the ship?
How come the F11 and F12 buttons don't do anything???

I have lost count of how many times I have deleted and then redone that accursed options file! :modding :modding :modding

None of the buttons work properly because the options file is corrupted by another set of controls somewhere in the program. :modding :modding :modding

Anyways, I caught it when it was working and sailed to another island. Maybe it will work now. :c

The Lyon Hoy is in the game. It beeps and has a bad bow wave, but it has a crew now. The fals are ropes now and the flag/pennants seem to be ok. Do you want it?

It looks like it still needs some more rope work and there are 2 more hull textures to sort out.

She beeps? Nasty! She'd need to be re-exported through Maya first then. :modding

All three versions of the Lyon are working. I have seen them in shipyards and at sea. Someone needs to fix the beeping and the bow wave.

I will make a package and put it on the FTP. POTC doesn't know what to call it, so someone will have to sort that out as well.

Lyon3 is interesting in that, depending on the light, it is green or blue.

First she beeps, and now based on a couple of those screenies, she apparently has no hull smoothing either. That's two reasons to re-export. :facepalm
Also, is it me or is there a missing texture on the blue/green hull? Part of it looks suspiciously grey...

I've noticed that too, but don't know what is supposed to be there. That was the one I was sailing last night, and I will be looking into it some more.

edit: I just found a mistake in the GM when hex editing yesterday. Now to go sailing. :sail

Whew! I can go no further with the Lyon Hoy. All of the textures are showing now. :j2

She is a popular ship with there usually being 2 in every shipyard. The only unsolved riddle I have involved the shipsinit.c. When I first started there I decided that since she only has one mast she would fit in better with the sloop class rather than the lugger class.

But she would not show up in game as a sloop. It was only when I switched her back to a lugger that she showed up. This has had the effect of making her way overpriced in game as well as making her performance suspect. I need help here. :shrug

The Lyon Hoy is in the FTP now. I created a new folder called "after patch 7" inside my folder and she is in it.

Note: This is from a clean patch 6 install. Also, patch 6 and patch 7 are so different it is almost like two different games! :cheers

Now that Pgargon is back, could we ask him to sort out the flagpole issues on his ships? That'd probably be easier than Armada having to convert and re-convert his ships, right?

There seems to be quite some new good things in Patch 7, both in the stability and game balancing departments. And some new stuff too, of course! :woot

I guess we could, and that would certainly let me focus on more important Maya-related projects. It wouldn't be easier, mind you, because he has to do exactly the same thing as I would.
Perhaps it's best to wait until he's finished the Friedrich Wilhelm zu Pferde though... I'm sure some people will go ballistic if he takes much longer to finish that ship.

Some new stuff? More like a whole treasure trove of untold riches, methinks! :treas

In that case, Patch 7 is certainly shaping up to be a 'slight improvement' of Patch 6. :cheeky

I've been messing with that new caravel, trying to get it in game. I tried and failed to import it from COAS previously. It is listed as a class 8 ship with 190 crew. Is that correct?

I also finally got a chance to look at corvette1. Those deadeyes are ugly! Is there some way to modify them so that they lean in and forward?

Yes, the caravel is class 8, as it only has 10 guns.

I haven't touched the deadeyes for any ships, mainly because I can't physically open them in GM Viewer.
They just lag my computer like hell; before I can export them to OBJ format, I get bombarded with almost never-ending error messages. :modding
I'd have to take the deadeyes from a model which already has them, which is a pain. For now they'll have to remain as they are.

Uh oh, the Lyon only has 8 guns.

Those deadeyes give me an error message that kills GMViewer.

Just a comment about ships_ init.c: in Patch 6, I saw two references about Galeon5W. Is this mistake solved in Patch7?

There was deliberately two Galeon5W versions with some different stats; that's still there.
However, Galeon5 will be removed altogether in Beta 2 since we've got the HMS Revenge now, which is similar but has an infinitely better model.
