Crashes after saving Danielle

Hi everyone. Firts let me say thanks to all you guys and gals for these great mods. I have been playing this since build9.

I installed Build 11.99 and "New Ship" skins over clean install of POTC.

I have encountered my first problem while doing main quest at the point where, on Isla Muelle, where you go to the port from the city, right after saving Danielle.

Crashes every time and I can't play past this.

Ships seem to be sinking

(This is where I intended to post this this first time, sorry)

Ships seem to be sinking

At least that's what it looks like. During sea battles unless I maintain my line of sight at sea level, my ship and all the others around me appear to be sinking, i.e., the hulls are underwater. Is there an easy fix for this. Thanks, love v.11.99 and haven't had any major problems yet, but it is a bit disconcerting to be sailing a ship half submerged.

I have installed build 11.99b over a clean fresh POTC install but when I start the game I get some runtime error in the engine.exe. A message pops up. When I use the backup "PROGRAM" folder I made, the game starts, so the bug must be in the files the mod has in the "PROGRAM" folder. I did everything as described in the readme of the latest build but I still get that error. Please help me as this modification is very well done and I really want to play it.

The line is now the folowing:
characters[GetCharacterIndex("danielle")].ship.type = "Pinnace2";

Maybe that the wrong values in shiplist are also responsible for those crashes in shipyardinterface.

Just had to remember to load a game and reinit "before leaving the tavern to rescue Danielle"
 
Is there anyone who can help me? I found other people reporting a similar bug, but none of the fixes for their problems would work for me. I really just did install the mod over a clean POTC install and did everything as suggested by the creators of the mod. Any help?

Another thing, which you can do is to turn on the tracefiles,to get informations about the errors. Simply open the engine.ini and make following changes:
tracefilesoff = <b>0</b>

[script]
debuginfo = <b>1</b>
codefiles = <b>1</b>
runtimelog = <b>1</b>
tracefiles = <b>1</b>


Now, every time when you start the game, you get compile.log, error.log and system.log in your PotC mainfolder.

And you are absolutely right about trying more often. I get some crash and errormessage about half of the times I start PotC <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> , but after another try it works fine.

Every playtester should have the errorlogs activated (or run the game with Scheffnow's modhelper). The logs tell you exactly where an error occured, which is a great help for debugging. Without them finding a bug is like searching a needle in a haystack. So if you report an error here it would be great if you also post the (final section of the) logs.

I FINALLY found a moment to actually PLAY PotC with this build (11.99)! YEA! I had forgotten half the controls, haha, but it soon all came back to me...

<b>graybeard, </b>I'm getting that "sinking ship" bug too. The ships seem to sit a bit too low in the water. Yes, I DID have a full cargoload (well, minus what my crew had consumed in wheat and rum during the voyage), but I shouldn't see water on my fighting deck in calm seas on a nice sunny day...

I discovered something unusual... Upon hiring your initial officer in a tavern - while looking at his stats (before you hire him), you can click on his "Choose Outfit" button and make him INVISIBLE!

When you click on "Choose Outfit" you get THIS - as long as you don't have any other outfits. It's when you select this outfit that it gets interesting...

Unfortunately, none of this helps you one little bit <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> I deliberately generated a Vice City situation while with invisible officers to see what they'd do, and an invisible officer, who did NOT have a sword (I am guessing, could not know for sure), was killed when attacked. It was obvious he was not fighting back, but that didn't stop the attacker. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

The invisibility also seems to go away if you go in and out of buildings - officers are still in your boarding party but their icons are removed and their presence is gone - you cannot get them back until you change their outfits.

I also thought MAYBE these guys would appear in the moonlight as skellies, but unfortunately that didn't happen (would have been a good trick, tho!).

I did not run this into the ground, but I know for a certainty that if you DO hire an officer and keep his skin, that the "Skel4" option goes away and the only skins you have to choose from are the tangible ones. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Bug After doin Tutorial with Malcom,repaired ship showed 100 but when I sailed outa Redmond,Red bar for hull damage is black,got in a battle with pirates and when their cannons hit my ship the red bar appeard.

That's due to PRS3, and the way HP is now `ship-specific`, not `ship-template` specific. That happens when one of the stats (HP or crew) for the ship is greater than the max allowed in ships_init.c

This _could_ be fixed by increasing base stat and making sure all nation multipliers are < 0.95 or so, instead of as now the max is 1.13 I believe (nation mult + maxed random mult).

But then _no_ ship would have a "full" bar, even if fully healthy. It's a tossup.

But note well that regardless, the spyglass still works fine.

EDIT: OmegaRed already addressed this. Quick nit, regarding SAILTO_MIN_SPEEDRATIO.
Actually, it's far more forgiving: that's the minimum. So sailto only fails if you're slower than 0.25 x the enemy ship. So if you're at least more than 1/4 as fast, you're OK.
Not realistic, obviously, but it sets _some_ minimum. And the hardcore can up it to 1.0. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
And this isn't entirely a fair nitpick, since my explanation was so poor in BuildSettings.h that it certainly _appeared_ that it worked the way you descirbed. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> at self.

Regarding officer ranks and OmegaRed's suggestions: All you're doing is decreasing the affect that the player's leadership and luck have (which also as a side effect decreases the resultant rank); rather, I'd suggest making it pRank/2.5 instead of 2.0, say, as an alternative way to decrease the resultant rank.
and maybe rand(pLuck/3.0) instead of just plain luck. It is luck, after all.
Also you may want to tweak the end (the GetDifficulty part) rather than the beginning, so you get a wider spread, instead of making the end rank _always_ lower?

Hey you all. I am currently having issues with getting out of the Pirate Island once I rescue that one guy. All the doors including the dock are locked tight, thus not allowing me to continue. Any ideas?
