Solved Adding More Music

nope. Game won't reload the new music until a new game is started.
Only the Main-menu music (I added a 2nd track) played fine right from the beginning.

EDIT: it gets even better: I got the no-profile-selected error a few times until I deleted the savegames without the new music. Seems like the game has a problem when 2 savegames have different music-values (or sth like that^^).

My suggestion: I search for 1-2 new nice store musics (the current one is a bit annoying) and upload the whole new music pack to the ftp. If a new WIP with a new-game enforce comes, it could be simply included.

EDIT: I just don't find any music that we can use for the store in the whole internet :modding I will look if some of the music from Port Royale which I didn't use before fits at least a bit.

Ok I finished. I have added 3 tracks for stores and shipyards but well.. I think there are better ones somewhere out there. If anyone has a good idea or tip, I would be very thankful ;)
I will upload the .zip file on the ftp, I put in the right folder-structures (music_standard.c is already in PROGRAM -> sound ->ALIAS; MUSIC is in RESOURCE->Sounds), so if you want to include it, its just copy+paste ;)
Its 53,9MB , I think this is an acceptable value.

EDIT: Argh:facepalm I forgot to match the volumes of the tracks -.- Well it is enough for testing purpose, if we really want it to be included, I can update the files. I think that should go without a new savegame...
EDIT2: Updated the tracks, the volumes should be fine now.

Excuse me, but... how about copyright infringement? Maybe I'm way too careful here. I surely am, they are extremely picky about that stuff in German Law (what's not wrong of course), and they can also hold me - yes, me - liable for linking to your Build Mod on my website (maybe even for my beginner's guide), just because there are copyrighted music files available which don't belong to the stock game (i.e. PotC). Please don't ask me why, it's very complicated. :ko
Wouldn't free music or music under Creative Commons Licence be much "safer"? It matters not, if nobody has noticed or reacted to your music packs before and there's a lot of good stuff on websites like newgrounds.com. Needs credit of course, but...

Just my two cents, I'm pretty worried at the moment. :walkplank

Would you feel better if any new music packs were set up as optional addons? There has been a movie music pack around for over a year that no one has complained about that uses POTC movie music. If Disney has not complained..........

I know, I'm from germany, too ;)
But if you look into the music, there were many tracks from Sea Dogs 1 and also from PotC before I started to edit it myself, so :shrug I only took from tracks from games that I had on my hdd because I bought the games. And I didn't edit the tracks, so why not? I just copied them into the resource folder and wrote the code to let them appear ;)
And also: I don't think that the GEMA has the rights about a worldmap track for Port Royale :D

EDIT: Hylie, I wanted to do a additional mod but it seems, that the game doesn't like that :shrug it doesnt initialize it, so you have to start a new game in order to let the new music appear. And then you will get the well-known "no active profile selected" error as long as you have savegames with different music.
But maybe its only my game :D If you want, you can try it yourself^^

@ Hylie
Optional is good, yes. They hold you liable here as soon as you link to any source on the internet, where you can get copyrighted stuff for free (especially music) without permission from the authors. Doesn't even need to be Disney for complaining, it just makes it illegal in an instant (here: the Build Mod, if included) and as soon as a webmaster knows about it, he must remove all links to that source at once. Otherwise... well, you know; forfeit or jail, the funny stuff.

@ Pillat
Matters not, if you bought the games. You need a licence for it to use it for any other stuff. I think, there's a permission for using all the music from Akella games, but that's it. The GEMA has absolutely nothing to do with this.

true. But I didnt linked anything ^^ and I also posted nothing here, no files and no link :p

Cassadar:
What's with Disney? :D
If we want to be 100% sure I can write to Ascaron, but I think they don't even know anymore what Port Royale is :D

Well, I don't talk about you linking stuff, I talk about me and my website. ;) You have to be very careful, if you're a webmaster, especially in Germany, otherwise copyright law and many other stuff will break your neck instantly nowadays. If there's copyrighted music without any permission in the Build Mod (keep in mind, everyone can download it), then I must remove all links and perhaps even my beginner's guide, because german lawyers will handle New Horizons as an illegal source for copyrighted music. And they will hold me liable for this, because I knew about that. Doesn't matter, if I'm a member of the modding team or not.

Whats about an insolvent company? Ascaron doesn't exist anymore and so I think there are no copyrights for it anymore

Ahh now I get your point. Well as I said the Build Mod has already music from the PotC - movies...
My music-pack includes:
- Port Royale from Ascaron
- Anno 1602, Sunflowers/Ubisoft
- 1 track from PotC 2

Copyright or "Urheberrecht" in Germany doesn't work this way. Have a look at this: http://www.recht-hat.de/faq-urheber...nem-werk-ewig-oder-verfaellt-das-urheberecht/
Works very similar in the USA: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_law_(Vereinigte_Staaten)

Well as I said the Build Mod has already music from the PotC - movies...
Yes, but it's optional and no inherent part of the Build Mod, so it doesn't bother me.

Well, it is included in the latest Beta 3 WIP...
This music pack that I made is not included, and I think it would be better anyway if it would only be an additional pack so it doesn't have to bother you, too ;)

There is technically copyrighted stuff in the Build Mod and has been for a long, long time.
We've got the Cutthroat Island title theme playing in the main menu too, because that's the most piratey music in existence.
It even contains content made originally for other games, such as Sea Dogs, Age of Pirates 1&2 and Voyage Century Online.
Not to mention that we included content from the PotC films and the Hornblower and Sharpe TV and book series.

So if some copyright lawyers want to frame us and put a stop to it, I'm sure they could. But nobody cares. And they bloody well shouldn't!
We have ensured a LOT of enduring game sales for PotC over the years, not to mention technical support that would otherwise be non-existent.

When it comes to the music, we haven't included complete albums in the modpack, just a few tracks here and there.
That makes it more like samples and less like deliberate music sharing.
If people really WANT all of it, there are much better places to get it from than deeply hidden away in modpack game files.

I know it's not 100% legal, but we do make a point of not being 100% illegal either.
If we DO want to fully fit in with the law, we might as well drop what we're doing altogether. :facepalm

I'm not talking about lawyers framing piratesahoy, I'm talking about german lawyers framing me, because I linked to your Mod with that music included. The storylines are not much a problem, otherwise there would be no fanfiction websites at all. But when it comes to music they almost freak out. For example, samples are only allowed to be used when it comes to quotation and they take this very serious here. It's me who will be framed then, not you.
As I said, if Akella allowed you to mod their games, then there's a permission for their stuff.

Well, anyway, I need to study the german legal codes now, perhaps I find some way to link to this without worrying. Don't want to delete all my articles, I put way too much time into them. Of course it would be no problem, if the new music pack is just optional, so...

The only problem about making it additional is that you have to delete all your old savegames and start new if you want to use it o_O but I'm confident that there's a solution for that..

I've been starting a new game and deleting all old saves weekly for months now. Deleting old saves and starting over is NOT a problem.
Regular players will not be updating so often and will not need to restart as often. A restart every 4 months is not tedious.

When Legendary Spider made his sound pack it was attempted to make it so that the music could be changed in "options", but it never worked well.

This is not a music sharing site. All of the music is buried away in the game and is also in the oddball OGG format. There are much easier ways to get the movie music.

I'm not sure why a new music pack should be the cause of any trouble. We've had the Cutthroat Island title theme in there since Build 13.
So if we're going completely by the book, wouldn't Build 13 be just as illegal as the newer versions?

We're not advertising the inclusion of it anyway, so people wouldn't know unless they download and play it.
This is all it says in the Change Log:
Code:
. Additional music tracks added and unused music repurposed by Pieter Boelen
    > Separate fog sailing music case added
And that is between a lot of other text that I doubt many people will be reading.
Heck, they don't even read the installation instructions when it's staring them in the face and trying to FORCE them to read it! :whipa

^ Very, very true. We just add a bit here and there for variety's sake; otherwise you'd get well fed up of it after a short while of playing.
It is purely to enhance the gameplay. Nothing more, nothing less. :shrug
