<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Inez,
I am thinking about getting back into POTC and wanted to check something with you before I start retexturing every single model I like to an alternate version with some resemblance to the character face that I want to play (damn morrowind has completely ruined my ability to enjoy any game without being able to dress my character up in new outfits every second day[not that I ever really played much of morrowind after I opened the construction set and starting modding])...
Anywaaay I thought I would revisit your TOOL in the hopes that character mixing had been perfected, unfortunately my dream of a simple "push this button and everything is just how you want it" feature has yet to be implemented, but I did wonder if you had any further plans for the function(character mixing that is, not the everything one). You know seeing as how you update the TOOL 3 or 4 times a day and all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
It just seems to me that there has to be an easier way than trying to line up textures without guide maps or any logical standardisation(Akella <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> ) in a vein attempt to prevent cross eyes and weird excorcism effects. Well that and the whole 'Chop off his 'ead an stick it on that there body' kind of appeals to the pirate in me Arrrr! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />
Not knowing anywhere near enough about the .GM format myself <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> and just taking a logical approach it would seem that if all men share the same animation especially in the case of the talking head anim then they must share bone points so that you could sever a neck at lets say the 3rd vertebra of the body and the 4th of the head then stick the head partially through the body to line up the 3rd in the head with the slice point 3rd of the body sinking the fourth inside the body, add some gaffa tape and what have you then voila head swaps without holes, obviously there would still be hair traces on the body and things like that in a few of the cases but most models would then work out of the box as it were with the push of your magic button. Where as at the moment the chop point for the head seems to be along the jawline which means that unless the characters share the same exact characteristics under the jaw and down to the shoulders they will always end up with holes.
Of course all this is assuming the models have more than one joint for the neck, and from what I have seen they have atleast two, one where the neck begins from the skull(this is where you apear to have made your cut fro both the head and body) and one where the neck ends at the shoulders (where I sugest you make the cut for the head) then it would be a ?simple? matter of merging the model data of the two overlapping parts. If this is not possible then could you add the option to choose to make the incisions at the lower point as I think there might be at least a few more possible combinations that way and its always better to have more options anyway(well almost always[I still have a few hundred mods to try for morrowind, not to mention the finishing touches on a fair few of my own]). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />
At any rate thankyou for the TOOL and all your much apreciated work on POTC <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/love.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":luv" border="0" alt="love.gif" /> and apolagies if I am way off base, which I could very easily be as my modeling experience is pretty much limited to notepad, NWN .mdl's and sooo much trial and error.
I just wanted to be sure before I go spending the next few weeks retexturing vague approximations and once again miss out on playing the game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Cheers,
Daede.
P.S.
The link below shows a few variations I have done for myself based on the Jack Sparrow <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jack1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j1" border="0" alt="jack1.gif" /> Texture by Kodo Boon. In the second shot of the heads close up you can see very clearly why I would much rather a head chop approach as there is only so much you can do with a texture. Though I must say I really like how the Pirate10 one turned out, though I think I may thin the beard out a bit more and the eyes aren't quite there on any of them yet.
