WIP Spanish translation

It is quite clear to me. :thumbs1

I will translate that part of the game by creating the "SPANISH" folder in that location.

Before attaching it, I will check it with Winmerge to avoid changing any code or symbol.

Hello @Homo eructus .

I have started translating some of the main story files hosted at: \PROGRAM\Storyline\standard\DIALOGS\...

By the way the Spanish folder is missing, I don't think it's my version of the game.

I leave you one of them to review it, I understand that the dialogues sometimes continue in the next line and that it is necessary to respect the codes.

string DLG_TEXT[28] = {
"¡Pero mira a quién veo! ",
"!!",
"Lo siento, ¿te conozco?",
"Entonces, ¿has completado tu tarea?",
"Sí, no te molestará más",
"¡Perfecto!",
"Si necesitas algo más, estaré encantado de ayudarte",
"Está bien, me acuerdo de ti. ¡Eres el capitán que logró escapar cuando los franceses capturaron #sOxbay#!",
"Sí. ¿Pero cómo lo supiste?",
"Un pajarito me lo dijo.",
"Ya veo. Bueno, si me disculpa...",
Acepto",

string DLG_TEXT[28] = {
"Well, look who I see! ",
"!!",
"I'm sorry, do I know you?",
"So, you have completed your task?",
"Yes, he won't bother you any more.",
"Perfect!",
"If you need anything else, I'll be glad to help.",
"That's all right, I remember you. You're the captain that managed to escape when the French captured #sOxbay#!",
"Yes. But how did you know?",
"A little bird told me.",
"I see. Well, if you will excuse me...",
"Wait, please. Judging by your tone, you've seen better days. Perhaps I can help you?",
"That depends. Why would you help me?",
"I would love to believe that in these modern times all people should be friends, get along, mind their manners, and not resort to violence to solve their problems. Unfortunately, this not the case. I need action, and I want you to help me.",
"And what would I have to do?",
"There is a fellow who hinders my business.",
"And you want to get rid of him? Why don't you do it then?",
"I would, but he lives in #sIsla Muelle#. I am well known there, and would be recognized.",
"Let's assume I'm willing. What will the reward be?",
"To be honest, I haven't much money to offer. All my savings elsewhere, held by a person I trust, but...",
"But what?",
"I do have an excellent ship I can give you.",
"Hmm...sounds tempting. I guess you've got a deal.",
"Great! Then I'll give you the ship and you'll take care of ",
"Sidonio Ogarrio",
"Sidonio Ogarrio",
" on #sIsla Muelle#. He lives in a small square behind the tavern.",
"All right. I accept.",

};
There's some inconsistency in the froms of address, for example in
"Espere, por favor. A juzgar por su tono, ha visto días mejores. ¿Quizás pueda ayudarte?"
You switch from third person formal address ([usted] espere) to second person (ayudarte [a ti]) while talking to the same character. To make things simple, I only used the plain second person "tú" treatment in all the dialogs (I made some particular exceptions with governor dialog files but I'm not sure any of those files are ingame currently)

Very well, to make sure that all the files are the same I will use the same person in the ones I translate.

@Homo eructus, @JTem: can one of you translate "Satanists' Lair" into Spanish? Because the loading screen for the villains of the "Strange Things Going On" sidequest currently says "Animists' Lair" in English, while most of the rest of the quest calls them Satanists. That means I need to change the title on the English loading screen, so I may as well do a Spanish version while I'm at it.

Thanks! Next update, when you visit the cave, you'll see this:

Hello.:ahoy

Another version that I like more would be:

"Guarida de los Satánicos"
"Iglesia de Satán"
"Aquelarre" (for witches)

What is the difference between "Satanistas" and "Satánicos"?

Google agrees with @Homo eructus - when I gave it "Satanists' lair", it returned "Guarida de los satanistas".

The word 'satanista' is not included in the 'Real Academia de la lengua española', but this does not mean that it is not used in a colloquial way.

In contrast, the word "satánico" appears with the following meanings according to the RAE:

1.- Belonging or relating to Satan, prince of the rebellious angels.
2.- Proper and characteristic of Satan
3.- Pertaining or relating to Satanism
4.- Said especially of a defect or quality: Extremely perverse.

The most daring and perhaps the most convenient option would be:

"Iglesia de Satán"

As it is the place of worship of that entity, it does not need to be a building, it can be a cave or something similar.

That would be "Church of Satan", not quite the same.

Perhaps one of you would also care to retranslate "RESOURCE\INI\TEXTS\SPANISH\QUESTBOOK\animists.txt"? Almost all the references in there to "animista" need to be replaced, and if "Satánicos" is preferred to "Satanistas" then all the references to "Satanistas" should also change. The exception is where it says that the Teacher calls himself an "Animist"; in the English version, he probably wouldn't call himself a "Satanist" while describing himself to townsfolk, so line 25 stays as 'animista'. Once it is agreed which version will be in the questbook, I'll change the loading image to match.

There's not really a preference. "Satanista" doesn't appear in the dictionary because it's a direct derivate from "satanismo" and the dictionary can't have every single word in it, not because it's more colloquial. Satánico is an adjective, literally "satanic", but like most adjectives in Spanish it can be used as a noun aswell.

I have taken the liberty of going through the file to correct the word 'animista' to 'satánico', I have also corrected some errors and touched up some of the sentences that were not correct in my opinion.

I made some adjustments to punctuation and things like that, and put "animista" back in place for the Teacher.

Thanks to both of you for the revised questbook! :cheers

Since the questbook now uses "satánico", so does the loading image:

Just to finish the job, here's "ItemsDescribe.txt" with the amulet changed to:
Code:
itmname_animists_amulet   {Amuleto satánico}
itmdescr_animists_amulet
{
Un siniestro amuleto satánico con forma de estrella de cinco puntas.
}

Hello, I think that the option I attach is more faithful to reality ...

Code:
itmname_animists_amulet   {Amuleto satánico}
itmdescr_animists_amulet
{
Un siniestro amuleto satánico con forma de pentagrama.
}

@Grey Roger: I just installed your latest update and added this line in there manually so it doesn't get lost. :doff

The English version calls it "A sinister Satanist amulet resembling a five-pointed star". The existing Spanish translation, "Un siniestro amuleto satánico con forma de estrella de cinco puntas", is the same. It might be nice to keep the translation consistent. ;)
