Rewrite current main quest...

First, it is possible to play the game now without doing the main quest. All of the side quests that came with the game and all the new quests make it very enjoyable without doing the main at all. My suggestion was to create a East India Trading Company with Becket that was not linked to the Govs office in Port Royal aka Redmon. An entire new "main quest" could be played going through Becket and not the Gov. In my humble opinion, you could add back the military mod the same way, just have everything go through an admirals office in the fort. You don't change the main game and add one or two new ways to play it. Like I said before, why does the silly looking black ship at K-Rock have to be the Black Pearl? Why can't it be some other evil undead pirate ship? The main quest is nothing more than a liner progression of quests, why change it when you could add another main quest, the Jack Sparrow story that players could ignore if they wanted too.

Before we introduce another main quest or edit the current one. I think we should develop backstorys for each choosable character in the game, saying that, I am very much supporting the idea of changing each diologue to fit whoever the NPC is speaking too aswell as the responses. Having said that, we would get a mix of all the movies in one so, although not cannonised or anything but more pleasing to those who wish to have a sence of true POTC in it. If this gets the go ahead I'll be very happy to help in terms of diologue and story, I love creating and improving characters.

The easiest way to do this is to simply rewrite the current main quest without a toggle. However, a toggle could be added, of course, but I fear this would require a lot of additional complicated coding, which means an additional risk of introducing bugs. I would suggest simply rewriting the current main quest for now and trying to add the toggle later, once the rewrite itself is confirmed working. The idea is that you are not forced to play the main quest as Jack Sparrow anyway, you can play the exact same story as Nathaniel Hawk as well, if you like. The quest itself will remain almost the same as it is now, but there'll be some changed and additional characters and dialogs. It won't be a whole new quest. Not until the end of the current main quest anyway. And if you REALLY insist on playing the old quest (which has already been modified a bit in the current mods), you can always keep using Build 13 in case the rewritten one is added to Build 14 without a toggle. A toggle would, of course, be preferrable. Either a BuildSettings.h toggle or a main character selection toggle. But a toggle means much more work and more risk of bugs, so whether there actually WILL be a toggle is still up in the air. Actually: The entire mod is still up in the air. Until it is finished, it is not even sure if it ever WILL be finished. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Is it possible that the characters and the quests are only changed if the player chooses Jack as the starting character?

maybe, i don't know. it would be nice, as said before, to have sucha thing for every character. but it's highly unlikely. what if picking nathaniel hawk or jack would be the toggle? it shouldn't be linked to the skin though. that could cause a massive problem when buying a new skin.

The link would have to be in the "slot" for each choice. Lets say that if you choose whichever character is in the first slot(since that can be changed in Internal settings) and that is linked to the original quest, then the second slot is linked to the new Jack Sparrow quest. That way if people want to play the new quest with a different character, they can change it in internalsettings.h. Just a thought. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

O'couse I'm still not sure if this is even possible but I figured I a toggle is to be used, that would work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

... dammit.

This <u>is</u> possible, as I have aleady said so many times. For now when you choose you character at the begining of the game you just choose differents models, the character.id is still 'blaze'. This game was made to be played with differents heros (Nathanael and Danielle originally), so what could be done is choosing between differents id. I have already explained that before, and Pieter Boelen explained why he didn't like this idea much.

I think the best thing would be to have a toogle in buildsetting.h ... like this :

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->#define MAIN_QUEST
    // 0: Stock PotC main quest for all
    // 1: New main quest for all
    // 2: Stock PotC main quest if you choose Nathanael at the begining of the game, New main quest if you choose Jack Sparrow, no main quest if you choose someone else.<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

There would be id checks in the main quests. Those setting will take effect while you are at the choose_character interface.
0 : id is blaze, whatever model you choose.
1 : id is 'jack sparrow' or whatever you like, not depending on the model
2 : id is 'blaze' if you choose Nathanael, 'jack sparrow' if you choose Jack, and another if you choose someone else.

The good point is that the toogle is only considered in one file (choose_character.c), the id check is a really simple one and would be relatively easy to add, and the player is still quite free to choose what he wants.

I just couldn`t stand the texture of the Pirate Norrington that is used in the latest modpack. So I made my own. I used the coat of Derringers Commodore Norrington. I think he looks much better now. And what is your opinion.
<img src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/Thomas_the_Terror/PirateNorrington.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
And I made some adjustments to my Jack Sparrow too. His trousers are a bit more gray, his hair is more brown, then black, and he has 2 belts now, like in DMC.
<img src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/Thomas_the_Terror/JackSparrowDMC.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

And I found a good picture for people who want to make the flying dutchman:
<img src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/Thomas_the_Terror/Flyingdutchmanblueprints.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

if the picture was larger you could make out all the details. it also seems like they left the port lantern and gallery off.

Well, its just a blueprint. The larboard side is supposed to provide a better view of the hull without the lantern post and gallery obsecuring the view.

The new Norringtons and Sparrow look great, but i feel that the Norrington looks too clean and like he just didn't tie back his hair. The coat was rather battered, dirty, and ripped. What if you took what you just made and "messed" it up? Touch it up by hand and have some fun with it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Personally the toggle idea is great! I think in the current main quest though..if you don't play as sparrow he should have a spot in the story..no idea why they wouldn't include him..oh wait now i remember. :p EDIT: oh and if you do play as jack..I think some dialog changes would be cool too..for instance his desire to re-capture the pearl, the stormy start changed so that he infact just captured the ship ect.

Perhaps if this toggle idea works out we could change a few things for both quests.

important new discovery!

tia dalma has a locker/music box that is IDENTICAL to that of davey jones! you can see it when jack pick's up the ring in her hut. could this mean that the woman in davey's story is tia dalma?

I never noticed that, but now that I payed closer attention your right. That would be...wow...that changes my interpretation of the story a lot! Wow! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

You didn't notice that lads? If you pay really close attention to when Jack is "borrowing" some of her stuff, the ring he pockets is the one barbossa wore in the first movie, and his hat is in the background... all pointers to who their rescue misson's captain would be! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

<img src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/Thomas_the_Terror/JackRoyalNavy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

"Jack is that you?" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I just love those derringer skin <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

heh. you're right. didn't recognise him at first with the trim, but it's him alright.

Heyy! Jack Sparrah... yew 'ave a debt t'pay, and ya cannot hide from it by joining th' Royal Naveh, roight-a?

Did any of you get that? Man its tough typing like Davy Jones! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I got it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> but it is kind of annoying.
