Rewrite current main quest...

Holy crap! What happened to those files? For some reason every single line in your files has got a white line following it. That makes a WinMerge comparision virtually impossible, which makes merging your changes with my game a big pain. Have you got any idea how that happened? Is it like that on your PC as well? I would really want to do something about it, because this is not funny. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Not sure what you mean about the white line - I have just downloaded from the ftp site and did a WinMerge against a previous version I have on disc.

No problems at all - the changes showed up in WinMerge as would be expected. Just the changes - no spurious lines.
Did it with Quest reaction and a separate dialog.c file - both were successful and acted in WinMerge as one would expect.

Previously I also downloaded the ftp data to a DIFFERENT computer that I have, and loaded the files into the game on that machine.
The now modified game runs perfectly.

Just in case - the files on the ftp site are designed to individually replace the same files in the current game - (I am certainly <u>not</u> trying to teach you to suck eggs here, but mention this just in case we have a procedural confusion)

Could it be you got a bad download?

Please let me know if you continue to have problems with this and I will try an upload from a different computer.

To answer your previous post - the files complete the game as intended to "before the film starts" as per my post Aug 12th.
The is an option in the game to join the Dutch East India Trading Company an for the moment that "dead ends" until we get more feed-back on where that option would like to be taken.

I managed to merge your work with a test game-version of mine and I am currently in the process of testing it. Although I encountered some slight things that might be fixed/improved, it seems to me that you did a bloody darn good job! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I had to fix a little something with the Beckett encounter in the Greenford Canyon. What you wrote somehow didn't work; I don't know why. I also rewrote the giving of ships code for the Wicked Wench and Black Pearl to make it work better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I encountered two instances in the quest where attacks begin before the appropriate dialog is finished. This is quite annoying, because you can't defend yourself while in dialog. I don't think this is because of what you did though; these events were during the regular main quest.

Question: How often are you supposed to encounter James Norrington? Just that one time when you start the quest or also some other time(s)?

Thanks - much appreciated.

I originally had a problem, which made me modify that action. Perhaps I should have left well alone. I look forward to seeing your mod of this event.
In my version (just in case you didn't see it - a location trigger needs to be "hit" before the dialog takes place).
As to the Black Pearl and Wicked Wench, I know that mods would be required here, if only for the ships themselves, so I expected a less than good review of that part. I did it "as is" so they at least would be there and could be played.

Never encountered that myself so can't comment.

Just the once. I had intended that he could be met again during the player's "Meet French Officer" and "Save the Spy" during the course of which Norrington would raise up the local population (fictitiously - via dialog only) to assist in the freeing of Oxbay for which action he would be promoted to Lieutenant, but left it out as you originally suggested to keep his involvement minimal as you were concerned as to his getting promoted too early. It could be re-added.

Thanks again for the kind words though.

Haha! Even older, this! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />
