Mark: IMO the crew loss is extreme and loss at this level is new suggesting somehting has been changed or adjusted and needs to be corrected or tweaked.

As you can see this problem for me is occuring off Redmond, not Oxbay.

Mark: If your telling me, that putting to sea in a Corvette, fully manned!! Boarding a "Surrendered" vessel.......That is one that has hauled down her colors!.......Without a fight!.......and upon trying to swap Officers to take charge of said vessel, You discover that you only HAVE 8 MEN left.........part of the "Balance and Abilities" of the game in the new beginnings of a normal game, then we might as well chuck in the towel now, because the game is unplayable at this rate!

I have mentioned this before......months ago, that when we put into Ports after playing a while....weeks even, that the Taverns do not seem to replenish "Crewmembers" fast enough to supply ships that we aquire in our pursuits of Enjoyment! Now there is a scarey thought....picture that, you lose almost your entire crew the first battle using this new balancing system....then you put back into Port....And they tell you.....( this will really crack you up....wait for it ) Sorry...there is no crewman available right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know how this problem got into the game in the first place?

If the game won't run after applying the latest update, download the attached file as well and put it in PROGRAM\STORE. For some reason, some people have trouble with not having the right version of that file, though I don't understand why. :wacko

Do you know if the way crew loss is calculated during sea battles has been changed?

Having played this game since it first came out, added every build update,etc. and been on the board since I started playing in 2003 I think, I thought this particular function was working fine. Now, not so much.

Frankly, I have no idea. I suspect it has some connection with my flag mod but when that happens all relation are correct (neutral or friendly) but ships are hostile (WHY????????????????????????) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

not to my knowladge, i did change the value of crew loss for critical hits thou, wich only occur when bombs hit the ship, and they cause cataclysmic damage to ship and crew. so beware of forts if you have low level and little defense abilities, but it has no effect with regular cannon shots.

I think the problem in the Store.h is because you have at the first line in the file :

int STORE_QUANTITY = 16;

But there are 17 stores who are declared after because there is a store who have the number 0. So i think so the first line should be :

int STORE_QUANTITY = 17;

I think in the actually state of the file, the last store, the number 16 (St john's) can do some bugs just because of this first line. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Thankee Screwface, I seemed to remember changing that before once awhile ago.....wonder why it didnt stay that way.......either that or I just had a case of Deja Vu!!!

Anyway it is changed now...and the new patch/update that Pieter posted is wrong then as well....

I am certainly not expert, but I think critical hits can occur with regular ammo too. You might want to check. Maybe we should put everything on this back the way it was and see what happens.

I do these but get the feeling that nobody cares anymore......anyway for what its worth

1) I am well into the game here....all attributes around 5 or 6.....some are higher, some are lower. My 2 ships, Frigate ( 255 ) and a warship ( 500+ ) took on Pirate Brig and Fleut........boarded Brig....and didnt have enough men to keep both...so she sank. Can you imagine, not enough crew to sail a friggin Brig into Port.....what did it need?? Uh?? Guess....23......Then attacked the Fleut, and she just had enough crew left 56...minimum was 55, to sail her into harbor, but it was a waste of time anyway. Was off the coast of Ilse Meulle....went ashore, Officers flashed red...there was a gunshot, scream...and BAMMMMM! CTD........Did not even get time to move

2) came upon 2 pirates that struck to spanish......boarded one, all of a sudden I lost almost all crew.....but this was after restart, when I had full crew....what gives here...this is sure not abilities and balance....boarded the next one, same thing....not a shot fired..

3) took on pirate White Waller Frigate...lot of cannonfire....my men all gone....boarding caused CTD.....guess thats it for tonight....this game is too frustrating to play at the moment....waste of time

That one, at least, was fixed by CCC. He added some code so that there is always a minimum amount of crew available, depending on your rank.

I will fix it in the next update. Strangely enough, the game does run with it on 16, though it doesn't work if you don't add the ST_JOHNS_STORE to the file. I care very much. Unfortunately, I haven't got the slightest idea how they get caused or how to fix them. And it seems noone else does either. Which is a problem. If you people want me to, I can take the 5 March update and add only the bugfixes to it and leave out all the rest. Impossible, unless somone has tampered with my code.
But i certainly never have expereienced critical hits except with anything but bombs since i first developed 9.92, that includes the very latest build updates.

But cannon losses do occur, maybe your mistaking that for criticals.
 
To Giuliootto: Yes, that should be right.

To Merciless Mark: Nobody tampered with your code, as far as I know.

I am clear about the cannon losses and the fact they are not the same as critical hits. My assumption, obviously incorrect, is that becasue we can inflict critical hits on the enemy with cannanballs, they could do the same to us.
 
Critical hits have been disabled completely by Merciless Mark. You can't do criticals to the enemy and the enemy can't do them to you. Only bombs can do critical hits now.

I hope that nobody feels hurt for this, but It seems that every new update introduce a new bug.

Now there are all previous mentioned bug (CTD during land fight and boarding) and new bug (crew expired).

Tonight I will try to install all the new update over a fresh POTC and will try to find out the differences between this last version and my "work in progress" version that till now had just a CTD during land fight on Oxbay Port (that I tried to tricked).

My playing experience is different than Long John Silvers. I am able to play around most of the bugs. And I encountered the first rappers I have seen in months play on Oxbay.

Also when I went to Oxbay on foot through the jungle after the French captured it I couldn't Gregor in the port does in anyone know what's up with that?

And I have not had a single CTD with tne new version.
