Pirates of the Caribbean: Community Prequel Script

I'd like to replace "Capt'n we have reached our destination" with "Cap'n, we have sighted [Skull Rock]" or something like that. But we need to come up with a better name for the "piratey landmark"; we need something that sounds <i>original</i>. "Skull Rock" is very tired and unoriginal and I only suggested it as temporary placeholder.

So we are going with a piratey landmark before reaching the Ivory Coast, or is the piratey landmark right near the Ivory Coast? Meaning are we using the landmark as a way of marking where we will be making the pickup?

I do like the piratey landmark in regards to the "land ho" scene.

Well, good ideas everyone! I have skimmed through them, i will have more time all next week because i am on vacation so YAY! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Well, the good news is all of these ideas are focused on the next scene. So we are moving the script forward while we brainstorm. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Well yeah. That's what I thought too.

I agree we need to change that ''Capt'n we...'' and we need a cool name for that landmark too.

Okay, I was still thinking that it was another stop before the Ivory Coast. That will work nicely though. So its just some basic changes that have to be made to make that work.
-------------------------------
<u><b>Original scene:</b></u>

Mercer: We should have seen land two days ago!
Jack: How did you figure that? Navigation is not an exact science. There's plenty of variables that can delay one. Wind, current, weather conditions, absence of rum.
Mercer: You better do something about that.
Jack: right, i'll get the rum.

MERCER
(draws his pistol)
Mr. Sparrow, would you like to be shot?

JACK
(smiles weakly)
I'd rather get the rum.
---------------------------------

<u><b>Altered scene:</b></u>

MERCER
(angry)
We should have come upon that mark a day or so ago. Are your charts correct?

JACK
Absolutely. Navigation is not an exact science. There's plenty of variables that can delay one. Wind, current, weather conditions, absence of rum.

MERCER
(getting more angry)
Mr. Sparrow, I'd strongly advise you take corrective action.

JACK
Right. I'll get the rum.

MERCER
(Furious, draws his pistol)
Would you like to be shot?

JACK
(smiles weakly)
I'd rather get the rum.

maybe there could be an obviously native landmark instead of a piratey one. or something with a name the natives would give to it. like a mountain shaped like some animal. wait a minute. that sounds suspiciously like that skully rock we already came up with. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Maybe something on their native language. (anybody speaks that) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I dont know....how bout something in Latin?
Something with the ''moon'' (lunae)

We have to remember that this may just be a simple marker that Beckett's men were using. We don't have to get too elaborate. Something like "turtle rock" could even work.

I cant really say....I abstain, i think both ideas are good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Sorry for not being much help..

Anyhoo, i think we should decide for sure if we are going to add that scene before we develop it. I am going to have to agree with Pieter, we cant afford that few precious minutes in that scene, maybe in the Extended Cut, but not in the Theatrical because we just cant cram it along with everything else we want into the time frame we have chosen, its not possible. And nothing else can be cut without disrupting the flow of the story. I love that scene, and i hate to have to push it off, but i just dont see how we can work it in, and how it is THAT important to the story. :/

I think Pieter was saying that we couldn't afford to put another whole new scene in, like have them sail off to an island or something before they got to the Ivory Coast. But it looks like we will be able to work this scene in because its actually taking place at the Ivory Coast. This scene wouldn't be a burden on our script as far as I can see.

Indeed we do need the "arriving at destination" scene, firstly because if we don't have it, people'd be confused: "how did they get to this scene?" Also we need it for the sake of character development. What we don't need is to lengthen the film by adding another island before arriving at the Ivory Coast. At least that's my opinion. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />

Yes, we could lengthen the scene SLIGHTLY for the arrival at the Ivory Coast, but again, there is no need for a separate scene for a second island to arrive at just before arriving at the Ivory Coast. But indeed we need that exchange in there! Man, i love that line: "Mr. Sparrow, would you like to be shot?" We MUST use that somehow, and without watering it down... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Lengthening the scene? It's hardly lengthened at all. It's almost the same as what we thought up months ago. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/user_comment.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="user_comment.gif" />

We don't need additional scenes.

We just need a name for our ''destination''.
Turtle rock sounds cool. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Agreed. Turtle Rock is much better than Skull Rock. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Agreed as well about the separate scene being to much. I only suggested that because of the problem Pieter bought up with the "land ho" scene originally being compromised by the fact that they would be traveling along the African coast. This scene though, as Pieter points out, is the same length it has always been, and the landmark will fit into that nicely and solve any problems we had.

BTW, what do you guys think of the rewrite, is that the way we should go?
