LOL! Nice one, Gunsmith! I like Jack saying "Bugger" again. It always sounds <i>sooo</i> funny when he says that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Some things I wonder about:
- Doesn't this make Jack appear to incompetent? Any captain must be at least adequate in navigation. It is one of a ship's officers' main skills.
- I also think that Edwards should tell Jack that he doesn't intend to take over from him, whetever Mercer or Beckett might've led him to believe. After all: Edwards was introduced as if he was going to replace Jack on the smallest sign of ineptitude.
- Does anyone know where the actual navigation was performed on an old style sailing ship? On modern ship it is done either on the bridge or in the deck office. But old ships had neither. Was it always done in the captain's cabin? Would the captain let anyone else in their cabin, especially without themselves being present? Or aren't captains in their office/cabin most of the time during the voyage, doing their own administrative (and navigational?) work, only coming on deck for the important things?
Officially Edwards is of a higher rank than Jack is, though Edwards serves under Jack on this voyage. What would Edwards be thinking of serving under someone of a lower rank? And what would Jack be thinking of serving over someone who is officialy higher than him and could replace him at any given time? I imagine they would be quite uneasy with each other at first, until they get to know, respect and trust each other. It will then get even more interesting when Jack turns to piracy and betrays that trust. What do they both think of each other after that? I think we should try to walk through the entire story from the viewpoints of all the main characters to make sure that all the character interaction makes sense and there is actually interesting development there.

But obviously the Pearl was just as fast under captain Barbossa. And Will wanted to have the Pearl to be able to save his father because the Pearl is the fastest ship in the Caribbean and is thus the only ship that would be a match for the Flying Dutchman. However, if only Jack can coax the speed out of her sails, the ship would do Will no good. Any thoughts on that one? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
