Just had a bizarre game a minute ago, real surreal, so I wanted to share. It all started when I was fighting some pirate ships, on behalf of France, and out of nowhere my rep dropped from Neutral to Bloody Terror. I mean, were these popular pirates, real folk heros or something? And then I go smuggling at FdF, and just like we were discussing in another thread, I get caught and have to just stand there waiting for the troops. So I'm at one end of that long beach at Octopus Bay, and I hafta stand there for about a full minute waiting for half a dozen frenchies to catch me from clear at the other end of the beach! My character just stood there frozen in one spot, digging his toe in the sand as one at a time the soldiers ran across the entire shore. They should've all just dropped dead from exhaustion, I figure.

Oh yeah, and I had started this game in some location other than the tut deck, so the first time I choose to enter my cabin there's Malcolm, waiting to give me my tutorial... So I'm quickly transported from FdF to Oxbay, where Redcoats are all on guard but there waiting for me in the tavern is that soldier I gotta lure away and rough up. Trouble is after I spoke with him and we went to the gate, things just stopped. No one would make a move, and I was stuck in place like I was just waiting for something to happen... but nothing did. Rather like the time I was locked in some tavern because I killed all the guards before they could tell me to halt.

But here's the best part of my game just now, thanks to some great glitch... I guess that storm was MUCH harder on my poor ship than Malcolm was letting on:

Catalina and Smithee, I have been enjoying reading the exchanges between you guys (and in the other modding threads as well,) in the modding threads that you both are working on, the creativity at work is a lot of fun to follow and if you don't see me posting much encouragement there lately it's only because I don't want to break up the exchange of information that's going on. Fred Bob won't mind, I don't think, if I hijack this thread for a little bit, (besides, he's out shrimpin', <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> ) but I just wanted to post this thought. We must start this weekend off properly, I consider it to be our solemn duty, an we do not, then thousands of pirates the world around will not know that it is time to start drinking their rum, and that my dear fellow, must not be!

I say we charge our glasses and drink the health of dear Fred Bob once again, and he who doesn't drain his tankard at the first charge is a coward, and a coistrel and a passy measures pavin!

I say, oh yes, I really do say, Fred Bob has been gone entirely too long and I say we set out to find him. How say you?

I will make inquiries and perhaps we might use your ship for the nonce, mine appears a bit under the weather. Ha! I made a funny! Decidely, that was a rum jest! As far as working the compass, I hear tell that one is supposed to "box it". It escapes me how one can be expected to box an inanimate object, Marquess of Queensbury hardly seems to apply, don'tcha know?

I don't remember who mentioned it first, but I recall someone saying how they thought it was creepy when the girl in the shop booth would speak with a Frenchman's voice saying, "I have everything you need..."

I got so darned tired of hearing "French quality and service are yours, m'sieur!" that I deleted that soundbyte - or I might have replaced it with something else...

Have you ever listened to some of the RUSSIAN voices that are in the game? Whew... Some pretty funny stuff there, even if it is in Russian! It's just in the way they say things, whatever they're saying...

Funny how that is - you could listen to something and glean the emotive meaning regardless of the fact that you might not understand the language...

OTOH, I DO remember going to the opera one time when in high school - the music theory "elite" (there were about eight of us, when typical class size would be about `25-30`) were invited by the French Club to go with them to see "Don Quichotte", the excellent opera by Massenet from the Cervantes story. I got a libretto to follow along (I'm not as conversant in French as I would like), and settled in to enjoy myself...

The scene where bandits accost Quichotte was incredible - I knew what was to happen because I'd read ahead in the libretto... BUT the bandits, speaking French and saying some very nasty things, all sounded like they were reading love poetry! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> French is like that, to me. Whatever you say (except perhaps "French quality and service are yours, m'sieur!" Been away for the weekend; I'll be back into things now. A lot of ideas came to me sitting and waiting to get to Montreal and back.

Anyone else think that custom Barbarossa Xebec skin looks like a floating circus?
