New character

Yes, as player characters they will work fine, the "combined models" that uses two textures. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Problem is when I try to remap, change the texture layout, the animations goes silly. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I will still make "new" characters, but I cannot make them use a single texture... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> So every single character will use 2 textures, and have a "waist problem" in such that textures will be a bit of a pain to match up over the two bodies. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

No problem!
All of the mixed head/body characters done so far use two tga files each.

As far as matching textures over different body parts, most of the models present challenges at the seems, and other places, especially if one is trying to drastically change/add something to the image.

You *can* add to the model - only you have in that case to do the binding procedure in the tool after you converted back to gm. In this case only the new parts will get their bone numbers from the tool, while the existing part will keep those already assigned.
I'll see what I can do about the lighting on the weekend.

I checked upon the lighting problem you mentioned. You're quite right about it, you do have an artist's eye!
It was because I neglected to calculate the normals on VRML import - fixed now (new tool version uploaded).

With other things I promised to do I beg for patience, as new unexpected RL work has showed up, and I won't be able to do much this week.
