Build 14 Alpha 9

Very strange, (should i call it a "bug"?), happend in the shipyard of Martinique today:

Sea battle music is always "music_sea_battle" and land battle music is always "music_bitva". If we added a test for nationality in the SetMusic() function we could change these to "music_sea_battle_"+Nationality or "music_bitva_"+Nationality easily enough, but someone will need to add the new music to the aliases. If we don't have a nationality defined for that music, we use the old version.

It would be more difficult to set it to the nationality of the people you're fighting. Sometimes a sea battle includes several nationalities, and with land battles, who knows who you're fighting? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

For land battles, you can do it based on the current location nation, right?
For the sea battles, maybe you can check the nation of the closest enemy ship?

sometime happens that, having used fast travel, your avatar is inside the building right after 20 or 21 o`clock, when everyone`s gone and the building should be inaccesible.

unlikely for me, i didn`t succeed to check it, nasty CTDs when leaving jamaica are buggin` me.
but i do remember that dowesen have not a wooden port, nor a pirate flag on it.
still, i have to come back there.

after my promotion to middleship, i`m totally unable to throw my enemy in the cargo hold as prisoners.
i got two dialog when they surrender:
1) take `em as officers
2) cut `em like pigs.

F8 is not working for me, or, at least, i do not know where to look, `cause i did, but with no luck.

problems:
when i met the captain of the Albion, i can`t use fast travel to leave the city on my ship.
fast travel will always send my avatar to albion desk, and from there i can travel to the victory.
plethora of CTDs occur in this case.

when in the store i can buy really few units of food.
i remembered that in the build 13 thread was pointed out that a player could end up buying the whole lot of wheat of redmond, for example, in order to supply his\her 4 warships.
so i thought someone put a limit to the amount of food a player can buy from a city, to force him\her to look for pirates\enemy (search and destroy, eh?).
i hope that`s what happens, because on my ship i could only load 5 units of food.
200 men....getting hungry....and maybe also Angry..........
bad situation.

again, pater jourdain dialog can`t be loaded.
i looked in Program\character\init, find this reference in falaise de fleur.c:

he begs for his life, i accept and let him go with his men (just because i can`t ransom him, no dialog option is displaied as before), then when i try to transfer cargo the beatyfull 3th class ship formerly known as Santa Maria Magdalena is now ....... a tartane.
with no cargo.
no men.
no cannons.
nothing.
a tartane named "error".
i thought a disrespectful fairy casted a spell to punish my lust.
so i re-loaded 6 times.
same result.
at the end of which, a painful CTD found me every time for 6 times with my pants striked down....
in few words, i had to give up:

about the blacksmith, feature request:
would be possible to repair more items at once?
example:
20 badelaires in 10 days, paying from 70% to 20% more of their total repair-price according to the latest player commerce skill.
so, with 1 point in commerce, a player would pay about 400 doblons per Badelaire (average quality to excellent) plus 70% of the value of all the average baudelaires he\she wants to have fixed in half time, that is 8000 doblons plus 5600 doblons.
when commerce skill goes up the price is better, `till at least 20% more: no blacksmith would work as slave to spitt-shine the players` swords for free AND in half time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
 
b13 with b14 seems alot bigger then vanilla version of the game:D why we bother to install vanilla game then anyway:D

Part of the problems with the new enemy captain dialog and part of the reason I don't like it. You only get the option to put them in your hold if several conditions are right. At least one of the conditions involves the iron will perk. I got tired of trying to analyze it and gave up. It *may* be possible to get to a point where you put them in your hold if you select the right dialog options.

More bugginess in that same dialog, I think. The safest route is to just kill the guy and get it over with. If you can put him in your hold, you can either take him as an officer or kill him, your choice. Nothing else is guaranteed to work. Wish I could help more.

maybe there`s another *.c file calling for a wrong script?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Is there a pater jourdain_dialog file in PROGRAM\DIALOGS or is it in PROGRAM\Storyline\standard\DIALOGS? In the second case, move the .c and the .h file (in the \English subfolder) to PROGRAM\DIALOGS instead.
There could be more mistakes like this; keep an eye out for any other "can't load dialog" messages. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I'd imagine having an itemsbox interface screen and you put all blades that you want repaired in there and when you return, they're all repaired to the quality you requested.

Otherwise the download would've been at least four times as large.
All the content in the Build download is additional to what is already there.
 
Something must be wrong with the leadership-skill system in the mod. I meet a woman, paid about 20.000 Gold and she told me something about that stuff in 5 hours.
After that, my leadership-skill was about 3:2, now, after saving and loading the game, the skill is 1:1 again and not increases anymore, i got serval items with me that should increase the skill and also by the actions i take, the skill should increase.

Whats wrong there?

Good question; your effective leadership skill can drop if you are commanding a ship that's too big for you, but your real skill shouldn't decrease! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
 
The same problem I had in another savegame, so, i started a new game and the same problem after the first save and load again.
The only lucky thing is, i´ve got a good bootsman with me, he´s keeping the moral of the crew at 53.
 
I'm not sure about the skill problem, but being level 31 isn't helping you as it only gives you extra hit points. It will slow down your skill and experience gain.

When you buy an experience point like that, it bypasses everything else in the system and gives you the extra point. The skill system shouldn't be affecting it at all.

You probably have items that reduce leadership skill. That and a ship that's too big to command. Get rid of your ship and skill bonus items and see if it doesn't go up. You don't have to save the game afterward.

So if you have level 3 leadership it should say 3 - 3 but if you sail a ship thats to big for you or have items that drop it it should say 3 - 1 and not 1 - 1

You would think. That's how it's supposed to work. But just because that's how it's supposed to work doesn't mean someone didn't make some change that messed that up. Some of the code is pretty shocking. You have to take that into account whenever there's a number that doesn't come up right. Also, modders are constantly changing things so don't assume losing a skill point isn't intentional.

It's more likely that JoB made an error somewhere in the saving/loading process and ended up with the wrong save game. I'd rather test some game weirdness before pointing any fingers for User Error.

I would say, it´s a problem from the mod, if i sell my ship and buy a tartane with 11 sailor´s, the skill is 1:4. If i drop all items i got with me, the skill is 1:1.
So, there is still a problem with the skill points i all ready had, something about 3:3.
 
In that case the most likely problem is that you either didn't save the game like you thought, or you reloaded the wrong save. If you're using quicksave, then all bets are off; it may or may not work.

Paying 20000 should get you from skill level 1 to level 2. If you had some skill of 3:2, then there was an item that lowered that skill. Are you sure it was leadership that you got?

At character level 30, skills increase extremely slowly. I suggest starting at character level 1, where you get lots of skill increases. If you're going to start at level 30, then turn off the auto skill system. You'll be much better off.

hi,
this is my first post (and i'm german)
so there can be a lot of mistakes...

...I noticed some bugs with build 14 alpha 9 + patch 2:

1. the most forts can't be conquered, because after you destroyed the canons and fighted in the fort you would fight in the city. but in the most (I don't tested all) "new" colonies (all except the colonies from stock potc) you are under the map and you can't go a step.

2. if you conquered a fort and the colony (the colonies from stoc potc work), you can't trade there. The trader doesn't get personal stuff and the tradable goods (food and wood and something like this) cost 0 gold, because the trader gets 0 gold. You will get a CTD, if you want to "buy" something.

3. manual looting from corpses at any <u>ship</u> --> CTD (corpsemode = 4)

4. the display from "Ship berthing" doesn't work correctly..only "douwesen" is shown

5. with "a" and "d" (with the normal control configuration) you can go through every wall

I don't know if it's only by my potc, but I installed it correctly with installation introduction

I forgot something

6. The escorting quests (from the tavern) go always to the same place where you get them...
in fact you must only go to the port and get the money and the rep.

I think it's also a knowing bug, but I don't have the time to read all posts o.o
a bug tracker would be a good alternative <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
3. I've done all manner of corpse looting on ships without problems. It's possible that some combination of game settings for corpses causes problems.

5. Sidestepping isn't really supported by the game engine. The good news is, if your officers are blocking you from going somewhere, you can often sidestep to get around them.
