Build 14 Alpha 9

Obviously not supposed to be doing that. Where does this happen, and does it happen everywhere or just that one place? I'll be able to check the code later today.

Hook

It happened when I started the Jack Sparrow quest (using the standard music scheme though). I started noticing it when moving from town to 3D sailing mode.
The new "Jack Sparrow" English town music had been playing and I thought that I was still hearing that when in 3D sailing mode.
Then when going from 3D sailing mode to the worldmap, I was also hearing the previous music combined with the worldmap music.
And it became really obvious when I went from the next town to 3D sailing mode again, because previously the music had been really loud.

I have been unable to notice this happening on just any one location or something like that;
it happened on two different islands, twice going from town mode to 3D sailing mode and once going from 3D sailing mode to the worldmap.
It might happen in other cases too; I didn't do much testing.

Personally I won't be able to do much for another couple of days. It's working-time again. So as far as I'm concerned, there's no particular rush. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Aye, maties! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I just wanted to hoist the Jolly Roger again and tell you,
that Davy Jones did not catch me or my crew at all.

It's absolutely superb, that the POTC Build Mod project is still on.
I will re-install the game now and have a look at ye good olde New Build Mod Alpha. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Did you clear out the music_alias.ini file? My upload had that file with only a couple of lines in it, commented out. If that file wasn't replaced you might get the effect you mention. I certainly don't get it in my game.

Any bets that the runme.bat file restores it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Check the file to see if it's basically empty. If not, you're using the wrong file.

something like that<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Indeed; we need to get something sorted for this. I've contacted the owner of the old Bug Tracker, so let's see what comes off that. If that doesn't work out, we need to think of something else; maybe Keith can sort out a local PiratesAhoy! Bug Tracker (after all; he added a Wiki section too) or else we'll have to make do with a forum sticky as you suggest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

And I never ran RunMe.bat on my game version since I performed all the required actions beforehand. The only thing I can think of is that something went wrong in my merging your fixes with a simple virtual sailor's main theme music mod; could you please compare the Patch files to your own and see if there's any unwanted differences? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
BTW: It seems Seb is having a similar problem to me in the POTC Modding forum.

I suggest setting ENABLE_PLAYING_MAINTHEME to false to see if it doesn't solve the problem. I haven't tried running the code but from a quick look there are a couple of changes that need to be made in SetMusicAlarm for it to work right.

Hook

I hope somebody can figure out those changes then; the feature is pretty cool and it seemed to be working before I added the sound fixes. Maybe something there is incompatible at the moment? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

With my mod I haven't experiment this double-music bug in my game thought.
... Pieter, does the Jack Sparrow storyline have a main theme now?

<a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=12984&view=findpost&p=309653" target="_blank">See here</a> ("Modders" only). I'm thinking IF* the problem is somehow caused through the main theme music mod, it would be because of an imcompatibility issue with Hook's sound fixes or a merging issue on my part, not because of the mod itself. I know it was working before. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

* It's the only difference that I can readily think of between Hook's code and the Patch 1 code and might therefore be the cause, but that doesn't mean it <i>is</i> the cause. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Something to read! This is before the latest patch!
Not happy reading and playing it? Bugger, Bugger!!
Trying to board or sink the Bark Oisenau, when finally after a lot of bother got the bastard and than...
The game crashed and you guessed it, no time to save

and Pieter it's the Storeman at Bridgetown ( Greenford) I think

The Greenford storeowner? That really doesn't make any sense. Upon your report, I did check upon him, but he talked just like he should at that point.
That was in the standard storyline. I don't remember if I tested during the French invasion though; I might've only checked prior to that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I'm hoping that crash might've been random and it will work next time you try. In my playing I have also encountered several seemingly random crashes and freezes, but reloading from my previous save usually got me through on second try. Of course that was the Bartolomeu main quest I was trying; I haven't done the standard one in a long time.

There are no particular reasons to crash in the log files you posted. The save error has been there for as long as I can remember, though I've never noticed any wrong with such saves. The Antoine Lebretton dialog error is probably just a harmless missed CheckAttribute; not sure about the interface\utilite.c one, though I recall having seen that before as well.

The system.log entries we would need to look into - especially the Video Error, since that suggests a direct mistake in a function call.
The animation problem is because that particular model came from AoP and AoP doesn't have head models.

<b>Edit:</b> It seems you removed that video error from your post; can you please post the filename and path of thata again?
I want to check it when I'm back home. It's isn't relevant to your problem, but it isn't right either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Well here is an idea. How about enabling quick save on the sea screen. Not only while you are on land. That way people can save before boarding. Would sure help when fighting multiple ships. Since you capture 1 but crash on the other one can be anoying ^^

We have had the idea before, I assure you. I actually assumed that this was completely impossible because of limitations in the game engine, but Pirate_KK has actually been making really good progress on getting this to work.
We have yet to see how well it'll work in the end or when this might be working properly, but it might happen at some point.

I think Pirate_KK had it working up to the point that you can save in 3D sailing mode and loading that save will reset the original scene fairly well.
But there would still be some things that wouldn't be saved properly, such as cannon reload status and holes in sails/black patches on your hull.

I don't know how far he has gotten now, but I do know he has got more than a few cool things in the works that were thought to be impossible before.
These include the Different Flags mod and Repaint Ship mod, which are demonstrated on <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/images/pirate_kk_preview/" target="_blank">these screenshots</a>.
Previously he made the "Free Walk on Ship" mod, which people had also been trying and failing to do for years before, but is now working quite nicely in the recent Build 14 Alpha versions.

Its amazing to watch the mod coming along these days, it made me have a go with the new alpha 9 in a seperate installation.
I must say, its a pure joyride compared to much of the earlier and bugged alphas, wow!

Hook and pirate_kk are the answers to all our prayers for coders during a looong time! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Just a short note to say that Pirate_KK has been around pretty consistantly for many years now; he just doesn't post much. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Well i just thought id download the experimental mods for alpha 9 and i have one question.

Is it OK to install them over Patch 1 or would that cause any problems?

Indeed the descriptions at the moment are thoroughly useless and need to be modified.
Of course here would be required mainly graphical descriptions, since it's a Repaint interface.

Of course the experimental mods contain a not-very-well-balanced weapons system, so you might get some gameplay troubles.
If so, restore the original PROGRAM\ITEMS\initItems.c file. But please try it out first and tell us what you think of it. Maybe you <i>will</i> like it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Well the date on the FTP says last modified 29-Mar-2009

So i guess itll work.

As for the weapons. Yea i read about that in a different thread. But im kinda curious to see what you are working on ^^

In any case THX for the headsup with the items initialisation file. Ill make a backup just in case <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
