Build 14 Alpha 8

Well. I've tried some testing and the result is... highly unballanced. But considering I did manage to install it correctly (compared to most of the previous releases), I would say that's pretty good! Luckily only a few updates will solve most of the issues I've bumped into. Here are a few of them :

- traders don't have any money and cannot buy you anything
- items price are really too high
- no sidesteps while fencing
- turning off Pieter-you-die-even-if-you-'-ve-blocked-mod doesn't work (so my character always die at the first hit, blocked or not)
- paying some lads in the street to improve one of your skill didn't seemed to work
- log messages immediatly disappear (maybe due to the head & name of the guy in front of you being displayed in stead?...)
- and many, many more.


Of course, as it have already been said, the lose of the chose_your_character interface is a shame. But I'm sure this will be solved shortly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
I'm not so optimistic like you a simple virtual sailor... not sure that "only a few updates will solve most of the issues".. Since alpha 7 the build mod has too many bugs. Since I play the build mod, it's the first time i give up from playing a new release after only two hours so much I' m disappointed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

I'm going to stop temporarily my work on the François l'Ollonais' quest. Indeed, why make a quest if nobody can play it ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
 
Ayayayae... I missed some big things <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Yes I've been away for a loooooong time I admit it.. And I am sorry about it.. But I am ready to re-integrate the modding team of POTC and/or Age of Pirates because I am about to try it out :p I may also just play AOP for fun.. I just installed Build14A8 and found a lot of bug, here someone:

Main quest (standard quest):

During the tutorial, when fencing with Malcom the game got stuck. I have to avoid fencing for leave my ship to Oxbay (I don't remember the new name);

After dead, when I respawn in the tavern room, I have a black screen (always on Oxbay).


Jack Aubrey quest:

The town (Oxbay with new name) has no owner (no governor, no taverkeeper, etc...)

Hornblower quest:

Ships in navigation map have not textures.
When I leave attigua port got a CTD.


All quest:

I can't play without automatic raking system, because I can no more assign skill point in the character interface.


For the last two quest I don't mentioned quest problem just because I understand that they are enough incomplete.

However, Build14A8, seems less stable than Build14A8WIP1, but I trust you, and I think that you are next to make this build playable. GOOD WORK mates <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I have two Build13 install kit:

Build13_Full 370MB

Build13_Final 319MB

The Full version seems run without CD.
The Final version asks for CD.
The Final versoin reports some missed files during installation, is it a know issue?

What is the right version?

I usually used Build13_Full + Build14A6 + Fix and it's pretty stable and bug free.

Actually I try two install type: Build13_Full + Build14A8 and Build13_Final + Build14A8, apparently with the same results.

I see someone has changed the ammo pictures in this build.
I made 3 different kind of ammo so the idea was to show 3 kind of ammo (not the same 3 times). Gunpowder on the contrary is the same for all handguns - that's why only the lock of a gun (and not a pistol) was shown.
I am soon to add tons of items, NOT meant to changed. I think talking to each other first is a way if you want to change something. //JRH <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/guns.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2guns" border="0" alt="guns.gif" />
 
That's why I decided to work on weather. From what I can tell no one has really made any changes to it from the original. But I am working with build 13, the newest alpha crashed too much for me to be able to work with it.
 
I changed them to stock-game textures. Just like the interface pictures of CCC I thought they didn't fit and Pieter added them to his own game.
 
Port au Prince is a simple case. Does it have in the code a reference of texturespath defined? like filespath.textures = locations/FRENCH? If so, remove that (because PoP has it's own textures) or Pieter has removed the Pap texture files. Then you will have to download CCC's Remodelling campaign map and put those resources in your installation.
 
Ok I got your opinion Thomas and maybe I'll change them to something that I also like.

Indeed there is some sort of trader problem. Also very frequently I see that traders have got hardly any items. And for some reasons they'll never sell grenades, even though I did set them to sell them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

- items price are really too high
Someone will need to rebalance those. Inded they ARE <i>waaay</i> off. And have been for a long time.

I noticed that as well; really annoying. That needs to be reset.

HUH? It worked before! And you shouldn't just DIE; you should only get a HP hit of a couple of points. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />
* This explains why Beckett needs Jack on this mission. He's the only one who can get into the French town to provide sea support for the attack.

Not always, but indeed they do when the head and name of the guy in front on you are being displayed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I tested some dying situations myself and definitly didn't get a black screen on them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Correct; Eleuthera is far from being finished yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Just in the Hornblower quest? Impossible. It's either in all or none of the quests.
You should install Alpha 8 on top of Build 13 FINAL and not Build 13 FULL!

It seems to me that for whatever reason the Build 13 Final installer doesn't overwrite all files it should. A simple workaround is to extract the Build 13 Final installer to a folder OTHER THAN your game folder, then move all files into your game folder and proceed with installation as normal. That does work.

Could someone please compile a clear list of all issues in Alpha 8?

Whel it's totaly not working, you got more chance of survival at 1 then 0 becouse even with a lvl 50 and full fancing ablitilites and skill you get killt in 1 blow <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

I had that prob first to but you need to yuse your arrowkeys to acces the skillpoints and yuse enter to add them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />
But I must say I realy hate to autoskill system becouse it takes verry long to lvl up by 1 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
got some problems to textures in towns are missing and why you can only have 10000 at the start of the game
 
What town textures are missing? DId you run RunMe.bat?

As far as the blocking thing is concerned, I just checked. I turned the mod off (set to 0) and got myself into a fight. When my block was effective, I would take NO damage. However, blocking isn't always effective, depending on your skill and the block value for your blade. If my block is ineffective, I take a fair amount of damage, but I did not instantly die. I have no clue what's going on for you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

You can increase the SKILLS_UP_BONUS in the Advanced Options interface to make your skills increase quicker with the Auto Skill System.
