Bartolomeu quest

I've been trying stuff with saving and loading the game all the time. So far haven't run into any real quest-related problems.

BTW: Check the edit to one of my previous posts. That officer vendetta against the bales is just tooo funny.
Might cause some major issues with BuildingSet models further along the way though.
Imagine walking through a random town and your Spanish officer starts attacking a BuildingSet windmill! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

example :
when you're asked to deliver the linen to Douwesen, sell it at Port au Prince, buy full cargo of cinnamon, sell it at Redmond, buy linen again, deliver it to Douwesen. At Douwesen, buy Coffee for Redmond, at Redmond buy linen for Hispaniola, etc... Your boss won't know about that...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Haha! I was thinking about that. Do you have enough space in your cargo hold for it though?

You PIRATE! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

I played all the way through to the capture of Nathaniel Hawk. So far encountered no real problems.
Sometimes there would be random characters interfering with the quest and I was having some trouble in the fight with Nathaniel,
but still: so far, so good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Playing the quest without cheating or side-turns still leaves you with over 10000 gold to make in 10 days.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Piece of cake! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Have you tried going in people's houses and stealing stuff? I used to make quite a bit in Oxbay before we had residents in the houses. If there are residents, you get to kill them and take whatever money they had as well. Of course, your reputation suffers... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I haven't tried extortion, but the resident dialog gives you the option. 1000 per house.

Picking pockets is an option. I don't do that either. You can get away with it easier if you use a cobblestone or something to stun the victim first. That one I've done, but only on dungeon bad guys. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If your commerce abilities and skill is high enough, you can buy stuff from street merchants and sell it to the storekeeper for a small profit. Check the buy and sell prices to see what I mean. That's a low return on the time spent, though. You're better off going the dishonest route with the ideas above.

There's no dungeon, but what about the jungle? There are often nasty people out there just waiting for a fight. They carry weapons and money and sometimes interesting things to sell. Occasionally you can upgrade your weapons from them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If you have the option to make money on the way there with no time limit, there's no problem. There is one problem with contraband: sometimes the coast guard gets after you. Successfully selling contraband is very profitable. Check the contraband prices for ebony at Redmond. You might be able to sell contraband at the traders who sometimes hang out at the loan shark. I think they even pay contraband prices, but there's a chance of a bandit attack.

Speaking of loan sharks... he'll be happy to let you have money for 3 months... with interest.

The game rains gold. All you need is a bucket. Remember I've said that you can't keep me from making money? Do you believe me now?

I would like to try have some honest routes available for making money. But I suppose that making money quick and being honest just don't go well together. Paying a visit to the fort seems to be a pretty good way of getting the money you need, though at the moment it isn't as risky at it should be.

What traders at the loanshark do you mean? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

When you visit a loan shark, sometimes there are extra people there. Talk to one of them. They are traders who deal in both cargo and personal goods. They will deal in contraband. Prices are sometimes odd, but I suspect they'll trade with you if the storekeeper won't.

Hook

That's interesting. Never even knew those characters were there. Not sure there IS a loanshark on Hispaniola though.

One suggestion: Maybe you should put Roxanne's suggestion in the questbook;
otherwise people might forget. Especially when they click through the dialog too quickly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Ok, I can include these small modifications. When I release the first part of the assassin main quest, you will have these changes and others useful ones you can find in the future. Indeed, no need to send you everyday small changes in the Bartolomeu Main quest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Absolutely true now that Alpha 9 is done (though still unavailable <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> ). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
Sounds like a good idea! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

BTW: One thing I do note with the Bartolomeu main quest is that it's rather linear: you can play it the way it's scripted and you can do other things inbetween, but there aren't any different routes to try. Of course there's nothing wrong with a linear quest, especially not with a GOOD one, like yours, but it does mean there's less replay value. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I understand but more possibilities lead to more bugs. And because of some weirds bugs I found in the various versions of Build 14 that obligate to change many times my main quest. I don't prefer to complicate the situation. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Anyway, between the quests, you can do what you want. For instance, after leaving Roxanne at Port Royal, you don't need to meet the governor immediately. You can pirating and some others things.

Absolutely true. And like I said: nothing against what you did. Just an observation.
It might be better once we get all the side-quests back in too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

You're right about the side quests. But in my case, you've got the possibility of playing a slightly modified version of the jackpot quest after finishing the bartolomeu main quest. However, It would be better to add the Francois Moulin quest, the Turks help quest and the others made by some modders.

About different routes to try in the Bartolomeu main quest, I prefer to finish my work on the Assassin main quest and wait for a more stable Build 14 before thinking of this. But seeing the number of quests when Build 14 is finished, I doubt this feature is so essential than a Build with only one main quest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Agreed on all accounts. Do whatever you think is best. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Charming. I've just had my new ship stolen and got a smaller one instead. Now I have to find my old ship back.
Is it intentional that at this point in the quest, you don't get a clue on where to go next?

You will find the 'Santiago' ship later in the main quest. Eugene Martin gives you a Ketch and as the quest text affirms go off Puerto-Rico to capture a galleon.

Quest text? You mean text in the questbook? I have to check that; I don't remember a questbook update telling me to check Puerto Rico. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Now, you've got a <i>breaking main quest</i>. Welcome to the club. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Oh dear. I'll check when I'm back home. It didn't obviously appear broken just yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

The questbook updated just fine, except for some crazy characters at the end. Have you got any idea what that's about? See attached.
Also I was having some troubles scrolling down to the applicable text using the mouse, but it did work with the keyboard. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
Anyway, I'll continue playing the quest now. :g

That looks kind of like Russian characters that are at the end of that line of text. They don't convert so well when playing the game on an english language system or in the game with english settings.

Cap'n Drow

It does look like Russian craziness. But why is it there? The Bartolomeu quest was not exactly made by a Russian.
