First off... let s start by removing that swoop from the list aye?
because if the sloop is a "ship" than soon we are going to see pirates raiding villages in tea cups..
the swoop is a fast ship ok..
what i like most is it s turning radius... but how can a 20 cannon ship stand against two galleons? yeah.. you can shoot avoid for 10 hours.. and maybe (iuf never get hit.. and that s easy if you are playing qualified or sub par status)
you get em..
also even if it s a "fast" ship, it doesn t go against the wind half as good as a brigantine!
and what about cargo space?
you are going to need a slow cargo ship to take em, wich will slow ye down.. and you ll need to waste man power on em..
and a max crew of 120... hope you are not planning to raid a capital without the helpo f seven indian tribes..
in my opinion.. if i would use a small ship i would go for a nice pinnacee or a postal, it has less cannons.. but with those small ships you scurely ain t aiming at firepower aint ya?
so when you go against a low crew ship you can hit it ASAP and go into battle with the captain..
but remember that those fast ship that rely soo heavily on speed have "small" sails, just take some chain shot and you ll be slower than a trade galleon..
frigate is nicer....
you got 10 more cannons than a brig would have... nice cargo.. and you get a nicer top speed.. but as the sloop the frigate has really hard times going against the wind..
also the turning radius of a frigate is ridicolously wide.. if you are planning to avoid a 40 cannon galleon you re better off being scure you have the wind in the right spot because there is no way you can dodge their shooting with that ridicle turning radious..
now.. the BEST ship (for veteran pirates as me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> ) is scurely the brigantine of war!
with his 32 cannons it has enough firepower to intimidate every ship,
is speed when the wind is in the right spot is scurely not as good as a fast ship, but when the wind is against ya try going with a swoop: it will push you back!!
while if you are good witha brigantine you can outspeed EVERY boat in the game when the wind is against ya..
the tactic is: have the slow big boats attack you from against the wind (while you are with teh wind with you) so you can just have fun having em trying to reach ya while you bomb em avaoiding every shot..
while when you are facing faster ship make your way against the wind (so if they go with the wind they get into your mouth) so if they try to escape you ll get em because there s no ship that can outrun a brig against the wind..
i admitt tough that against a fast pinnache you scurely ahve to be an "expert": expecially if you aren t against the wind or the wind isn t strong enough you ahve to be fast hitting their sails (just some cannon balls to hit em and their sailswill be almost destroyed.. making em sooo slow)

When you add cotton sails and copper plating, poor old Raymondo in his super Galleon can't figure out which way the wind is blowing. Just ties him up in knots. (pun intended)
