Silent Hunter 3 and 4

I remember this game back on Commodore 64. Silent Service. It was a blast, and if you were nailed by a depth charge you would sink to the bottom leaking oil, sometimes to crush depth if you couldn't get your engines going again. I would look around for that game in PC format but could never find it. These pics you posted though were very detailed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> I'll have to get that game again. The old version was against the Japanese Navy.

Never had the chance to play Silent service,Silent Hunter 4 has interesting features that are realy cool,Will post more info after I've played it some more, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

From the screen pics posted Silent Hunter looks very similar to Silent Service. The last time I saw Silent Service <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> was on the old Nintendo system.

Gotta Luv the damage modellling in this game. took on a few DD with Deck Gun, DD past me 20" feet of my port, with a single shot to his depth charge rack, blew him clear into the Atlantic, not without taking some damage myself, managed to limp back to port for a refit

Can you dive with damage that severe?

On another note, how do you like my new sig, Skull?

Real nice Sig Rico <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2up" border="0" alt="thumbs1.gif" /> ,I can make pericope depth, thats about as deep as I dare go.

Do you get a warning if you dive too deep with holes like that blasted into the side of your sub, or if you dove down too far would you just start heading for the bottom as the water pours in?

Are you familiar with the term Crash Dive, Your boat will sink like a rock, no warning, you do however get to watch a real kool movie clip of your death scene. Surface battle is something to be masterd, I only took those pics to show damage, its not something a Captain of a sub would allow to happen to his boat.Damage control is pretty neat,in that you can make any compartment a priority to be fixed, in this case Bulkheads and main pump were fixed before diving to periscope depth and was totaly suprised was able to do that considering the amount of damage. There is also a box containing all comparments names that turns blue, like a level that shows how much flooding in compartments, if your main pump is destroyed, you may as as well kiss yer arse goodbye! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yep. That sounds just like silent service. You tried to keep off the surface because surface battles don't always work out in the subs favor as you found out. I was wondering how you even got down to periscope depth, that's why I asked about a warning. The way you describe damage control and how you can make a priority what should be fixed and when is exactly the way I remember it in the other game. I have to get this game now. I'm hooked and I haven't even played it yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

Been kinda busy last few weeks, had a PC meltdown, toasted my CPU and MB, so had to build a new and better PC. Looks to be just in time as Ubisoft released latest patch for SH4 which includes FSA. After setting up my new PC and finding right grahic settings finaly got to play with new patch, game has gone from looking great to gorgeous at 1280 x 1024. You only need 15 to 20 FPS to run game smoothly. After reinstall have completed Sub School and a few War Patrols and quick missions an plan on doing more of before starting campaign to test out patch, so far has been no probs. Here is a pic with FSA on of my Balo class sub leaving Midway heading for the Sea of Japan for a Patrol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Sub looks sweet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> I'll have to invest in another pc as well what with dual core out now. I have a P4 at 2.93 GHz and already slipping behind with these new programs. Bought an iMac with Intel dual core 2 at 2 GHz and can't believe the speed.

heh, yep, its hard to keep up with all the new technologies, problem with faster speed usually means the quicker problems pop up <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Just traded my old Balao class sub for one with new paint job, nice skin done by one of the chaps at Subsim,

Playing SH3 again!
I played SH4 too, but its too buggy for me :p..
only who knows How I can manage that my torpedo's explode, they always hit the enemy vessel, but don't explode..

With 1.2 patch, download flavor to taste version 2.1 mod woith 2x torpedo mod and you will see gaping holes in ships, they seldom miss unless yer playing drunk <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Was refering to flavoured to taste and torpedos 25% more power for Silent Hunter 4, torpedos are underpowerd in SH4 in my opinion, Iwill post ship damage screenies from this mod when I at home from work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
