Maelstrom!

Oh yeah, with low cannon skill, cannons fire pretty slowly, making it seem like proper cannons firing, but there sooooooo weak <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

Is there any way to keep that fire rate, whilst getting higher cannon skills?

well, maybe by removing the cannon loading speed definition from the skill. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> but i think that that's hardcoded, although it would be a complete guess.

Try and search your PROGRAM folder for "skill.cannons" and see what you come up with.

In regards to the Maelstrom I've had this Idea for a while and I only just found this thread.
My Idea is on the attached picture.
Please don't give up on the maelstrom, Disney interactive Studios mucked it up SO much. It would be cool to have a version of it that was actually accurate.

so, the battle doesn't commence until both ships are in the maelstrom, right? what happens if the dutchman just sails back out? AI isn't exactly smart, you know. nor does it ever do what it's supposed to.

How are we ever going to tilt the sea surface??? Let alone have it act like a cone? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

let's not think of the technical area for the moment. i think the logical area would come first. we can figure out how it's supposed to be done later, if it ever will.

Actually, the technical area DOES come first. No point in figuring out the logic if the game engine simply doesn't support anything that could be used to make a maelstrom.

eh... makes sense now that you mention it. nevermind me, my common sense seems to have comitted a coup.

this was just an idea that I had, I'm not a technical person so I don't know if the engine could manage it and the Dutchman as I said would be on a fixed route (I don't know if that's possible to do, but as I said it's just an Idea)

well, maybe the maelstrom area itself could make ships go round in circles, a factor exclusive to that area. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> that's the only way i see that it could be done. of course, there's little chance that doing that can be done.

Well, what about the new storm engine? maybe that could have the capabilities for such a thing, but like ive said in the past, an AWE quest is a long way a way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

i had thought of that, yes. the thing is, a whole new set of wave coördinates would be required, and that's extremely hard to do. in fact, i think the entire ocean would turn into one massive maelstrom unless it can somehow be sepcified to a small patch in the middle of the sea. otherwise, it would look extremely cool, but you wouldn't even be able to see the dutchman on the other side.

By the sounds of it, you know more about the game engine than I do. Surprising. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

i just thought about what could possibly happen. strangely enough, i'm usually right somehow.

as for that wave-coördinate thing: read the info file on the mod that makes the waves bigger. that's where i found it.
