Maelstrom!

Well i have read all about the CotBP quest, and currently making my way through the alpha 7 plus version of it, so far so good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

To get to the point though, if a quest for AWE was done in a future build, what are the chances of recreating the maelstrom battle?

If it was, would it be a matter of editing the storm/twister in the current game, or would it be from scratch

I know its pretty far fetched, but i was a wee bit curious <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

i am almost certain that this is absolutely impossible. the only way i could see this being done is creating a boarding deck and modifying the area outside the deck. you would have a sort of (non-animated) wirlpool way above the regular horizon on one side, and the sea being way lower than normal on the other side, creating the optical illusion of sailing at an odd angle. like in the AWE game.

awesome sig, by the way.

I don't think we can acchieve an actual maelstrom. The best we can probably get done is to stage the battle in a storm, possibly with a twister as well.

that would be genuinely hellish. i've only done it once. the others where in regular storms. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I'am already having problems fighting in storms ..you fight/shoot nowhere and until you crash into some other ship. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" />
And then the sails are starting to rip off! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

And you are talking about a Maelstrom? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" /> ..1 minute in/near maelstrom and you'r in yer wet grave. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" />

I hate fighting in fog and storms, because I can't see where the other ships are, but apparently they have no problem spotting me. Not fair! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

was that last line intentionally connected with the boom pieter? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> anyway, you can have an idea of what's going on by looking at your radar. your gunners can shoot at them anyway. one thing that was really cool was when i was fighting in thick fog, in the evening. the enemy sloop passed before the sun, making the outline of his mast perfectly visible, looking like some wierdly shaped extension of the fog. i truly wish i could have made a screenshot of that. it looked awesome. what i love about those storm battles, apart from the sheer utter chaos, is that you always seem to outlast your enemies, even when doing nothing at all.

Its understandable that something like this would be pretty much impossible to make, guess il stick to the film :p

how about removing the foginess from storms to make them more clearer, to make for more interesting battles?

Oh and another thing that i wanted to mention, is there anyway to change broadsides, to make cannons fire one at a time, which therefore would make it so they constantly reload, again, like in the movies

Not just in the movies, also in REAL. Drat. i would just love to have Pearl fighting a fort with cannons firing mode set so EACH of them will fire and reload randomly in the game, result is like in the first movie where Barbossa attacks
Port Royale. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />
It would make ship battles also easier. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I totally agree with yer idea Jezus ..i really would like to have a cannon fireing/reloading mode set random ..and if its done i would just LOVE to sail a schooner and boom! boom! boom! randomly at those tightpants in ships while i sail away like haste and come back with more crap load of CANNONBALLS! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> ..no mercy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Not sure if that can be done. As far as I know, you can only fire your guns once all of them have been reloaded. Might be a game engine limitation, or it might actually be possible. Somebody would have to find try it out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

that system is used in pirates of cutlass reef. it's awesome! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> each cannon has it's own, but short, loading time. by improving your cannon skill, the loading time decreases on each cannon, and if you're good enough, you'll eventually be able to fire a constant barrage of cannonballs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> in that game, you would see how many cannons where ready to fire. pressing space once would fire one cannon. keeping it pressed would fire the loaded cannons until you would depress space. maybe usable as an example?

I thought Hook had already looked into this ... somewhere.

He did do something with firing of the cannons, but I don't remember exactly what he did and didn't find out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

WHAT!?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" /> So you'r saying that he actually worked fer nothing? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

LOL! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> True.

school comes to mind.... as well as your reskinned skellies. i'm not entirely sure wether those are usable for the build. at least, your deck crew.

Heh? ..what? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

well, we can't just replace the deck crew with yours, unless it's a seperate download so people can choose wether or not to install it.
