DMC Norry

Cpt Fabris,
I hear what you're saying, some of those models just will not cooperate or submit to a head swap. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> The more I fiddle with the TOOL, the more things I find it can do, but some of those models are just not willing to play ball. Sometimes changing the texture can achieve the result you want, without having to change the model, but I'm still interested in seeing what sort of models AOP makes available. Looking at your picture above, I have the idea that the corsair1_1 model might lend itself to your design.

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/332ZK34H/809662.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
This is a picture from when I was trying Beltrop textures on this model.

To answer your earlier question, I do not participate in Rennaisance Faires, but I can't urge you enough to seek out a fencing group, historical or modern, I think fencing is just about the best game there is. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> Either Catalina the Pirate, (who is currenlty occupied with other projects) or Mad Jack could tell you more about Rennaisance Faires than I can, they sound like a lot of fun, though.

With regards to the British Museum, I had long been under the misaprehension that the Rosetta Stone was an object that a person could hold in their two hands. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> I think you can imagine my surprise when I found out that it is around the size of a truck tire. This discovery on my part, notwithstanding, nothing beats the experience of seeing something at that level of historical significance in person. (I'll avoid getting into trouble with Lady Mings by omitting any reference to her confusion with regards to the Elgin Marbles, and how seeing them in person cleared up the issues she had previously had with them.)

As always, your gallantry serves as an example to us all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

CJPJ,
Thanks, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> no need to dip your pennant, but I couldn't shake the impression that I wasn't getting all thirteen guns. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

I think that you'll be pleased to learn that I had some time this weekend to play around with the Voysey/Pirat10 headswap with the following results:

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/332ZK34H/922186.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

Sometimes you stare at a texture or a model too long that you lose all perspective, can you guys take a look and let me know what you think? I like how the texture for the uniform turned out, looks like he's been thru a hurricane to me, but unfortunately, so does his face, and I'm not entirely certain that I've caught "Norrignton". (The model looks to me a bit like one of my brothers. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )
I have a keg of Snakebite (that I "borrowed" from Skull) for the first person to guess which texture I used for the face above.

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/332ZK34H/8211.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

I am a big fan of experimenting with textures on various models to see what kinds of results I get, and here are two that I wanted to share; "Slappy the Pirate" and "Severus Snape", just because they made me laugh. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/332ZK34H/922187.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Mister Potter!

I love it! Love the uniform! Ha ha ha! When will it be on the ftp?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />
Forget thirteen guns... twenty-six will do! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I can just see it now... Jack, Will, and Norrington are at it on the beach when suddenly another joins in. Snape! Avast! Get out!
Oh, well... I am sorry. Where are you, Mister Potter?

LOL! That Snape one is tooooo funny! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

yes i had looked/auditioned the Corsair model and texture but without a nice convenient group headswapping it becomes difficult to know how to make the necessary 6 different soldiers. I don't know whether face transplants are practical here or not.

Yes I'd rather like to train in swordcraft. Only question for me would be whether to be longsword or rapier. I know of places that teach both and contrary to my expectations the costs are not so great. I'd rather like to own a few period pieces: rapiers and flintlocks, but in the UK the gun laws are getting ever more severe. Generally I agree with this but I've not heard of anyone robbing a bank with a flintlock in last century and a half (attractive idea is it not?)

Ahh yes the Rosetta Stone is a fairly weighty beast. Long hours have I spent wandering through the Egyptian galleries staring at busts of Bast (try saying that quickly after a dram or two of rum). I have always been annoyed by modern pronounciation of Tutankhamun though. I've always thought that the three seperate elements to the name Tut-Ankh-Amen should be pronounced in full. English pronounciation is dire. Top marks are awarded if anyone knows his name prior to the change following the death of his father...

I rather like your Norrington. He looks impressively grubby. Truly a man who has fallen from a very great height and clipped every branch on the way down.
BTW how do you tell which bit within each texture applies to which bit of the model? I tried transplanting the face of Norrington into the Pirat10 texture but it produced ridiculous results. Equally replacing the coat element of Pirat10 with that of Lt Norrington produced bizarre results (he had it on backwards for a start!). It's times like this I lament that POTC wasn't a real Bethesda game with the easy clothing replacement of Morrowind etc.

Finally I must confess I had no idea who Snape or Potter were (Wikipedia soon remedied this). I have to date read precisely zero Harry Potter books and seen zero Harry Potter films.

I've not seen nor read anything either. But most of the people at school are nuts about it and talk all about it. :p
People constantly call me Ron because of my red hair. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":|" border="0" alt="mellow.gif" />

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If 'Ron' is worst they call you for having red hair, be grateful you do not live in the UK! Methinks the yoofs of Britain today are a degree less polite. Never really understood the seeming public aversion to red hair. Interestingly I noted colloquialisms 'Ginger-pated' and 'Ginger-hackled' appear in Captain Francis Grose's <i>A classical Dictionary of the vulgar Tongue</i> or <i>Lexicon Balatronicum</i> (though I've only read the 1811 version entitled 'A dictionary of buckish slang, University wit and pickpocket eloquence'), itself based on Nathan Bailey's <i>Canting Dictionary</i> of 1736. Impossible to know of course what these terms actually meant to those using them but it may suggest a long standing apparent prejudice towards redheads.
I must confess my own hair has a distinctly auborn tinge to it, though apart from a brief period when I dyed it red (it faded to orange unforunately) I have been dying my hair black since I was a teenager (a 'few' years ago now...*cough*). It is annoying that my beard shows auborn if I let it go too far though (when I am allowed to have one.)

Hmm, methinks I was remiss in not wishing ye a happy birthday on 31st July JPJ. I'll hope ye didn't take offence for none indeed was meant (I presume the board's information was correct).

Oddly enough, my own hair was fairly red when I was younger. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" /> (It's all grey now.) My beard still asserts some semblance of red, but is mostly, "<i>silvered over with white."</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I still have reservations about the Norrington model, but I'm pleased to find that you both like him. I have put him up on the FTP in a file entitled, <b>Norrington - DMC</b>, if you would like to try the model out and look at it in the game, let me know if there are any changes that might be made that could improve him. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> I managed to muck up the 128 portrait, so you may not see a picture for him in the passenger portion of the character screen, but I'll try to get a replacement texture up tomorrow. Per Captain Fabris comment, was it just your birthday, CJPJ? Well Happy Birthday, then! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavarr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":warr" border="0" alt="wavarr.gif" />

Captain Fabris, if it is all the same to you, I would take the rapier over the longsword. I am firmly grounded in the belief that chicks dig guys with rapiers more than they do those with longswords; it's how you use it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> Just my two doubloons.

I was looking at the corsair1_1 model and imagining the French uniform from the picture you posted, and that seemed to me the most likely candidate. That model, which doesn't have the earring that Corsair1 does, has a little bit of a beard on the face of the model, that corsair1_2 apparently lacks. You see how much fun I have attempting face transplants above, they are kind of tricky to get right, but it is pretty rewarding when it turns out looking mostly human. I bet between those two models, and a couple face texture transplants, you could muster a pretty good looking squad. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

By the way, did Tutankhaten cry for his mummy? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I've actually read all the Harry Potter novels, ....er, my wife made me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Ha ha, yes. I suppose I can't really wear a frockcoat and have a broadsword, it would look rather odd. I think as much as I'd like a longsword that I'd perhaps be better suited to a nice rapier or backsword.

There may a new possibility of fiddling with one of Derringer's army models, mainly the General Garryson ones. Problem is the ornamentation on the coat that I'd not be wanting, but if I can work out how to recolour things properly it might give me an idea. I've yet to try a head swap on that model though. I'll also 'audition' the JMV skins to see if any of them look like possibilities. I haven't yet abandoned all hope. My primary project remains in dialogue though.

Difficult question to answer. No one knows who his parents were. Theories vary from him being the son of Akhenaten, the son of Smenkhare who followed Akhenaten (possibly related but not his son), or that both Tutankhamen (Tutankhaten) and Smenkhare were half-brothers of Akhenaten (Amenophis IV) all being sons of Amenophis III. Both Smenkhare and Tutankhamen married reputed daughters of Akhenaten (Meritaten, and Ankhesenpaaten/Ankhesenamen). His mother? Crikey who knows. Then again if theories are correct he died of gangrene after breaking his leg, I think crying for mummy could be excused with the pain.

A rhetorical question on my part, actually, I just wanted to get the "full marks" that you offered in your earlier post. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

I changed the 128 portrait for the Norrignton model and replaced the bad one on the ftp, so Norrington should be ready for action. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

Pieter,
I admit I did enjoy the Harry Potter Books, but there are other fantasy authors I tend to prefer; Gene Wolfe, John Crowley and Tim Powers. There is one book, <u>On Stranger Tides </u> , by Tim Powers that I think the pirate audience might like more than the Harry Potter series. Have you ever read it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I had a thought for anyone who finds this interesting:

Take a stock game English soldier with long hair.
Recolor the hair white, ribbon black, coat a dark blue with gold braid, brown vest with black embroidery, black breeches, white stockings, plain black hat. Who do you get?

His Lordship Cutler Beckett.

This was not directly intended for you, Sir Mings, but for anyone who found it an interesting project. There are many skinners out there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Sorry if it looked like an attempt to get you to make another skin. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

See, after the P&E mod is finished, there is little to do unless a new ship or character comes out, other than updating it to run with the current build. So I had a thought. The next project could be a mod named <u>Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest</u>!!!

Could always have a Pirates of the Caribbean: War of Spanish Succession (1701-1713) or call it Queen Anne's War...that'd be my recommendation. Give an excuse for a few big MOW ships to be in the Caribbean, and explain the French invasion. It would have a nice England and the Dutch v Spain and France theme. In this period the Caribbean was a-wash with privateers prosecuting the war for governments unable to spare the resources to protect their colonial possessions. O'course this was why the worst period of piracy followed the Peace of Utrecht (as Cpt Charles Johnson comments in his 'General History...').
I still need to find a way of converting a character to have a decent justaucorps for use in e17th century setting. Searcher or Raoul have the right coats as they are knee length(though not the shirts) and really they should be buttoned up.

On the notion of a DMC mod, I wonder if there would be a way to incorporate the dice game, that is already a feature of POTC, and use it in an encounter, set on the Flying Dutchman, where you dice for your soul with Davey Jones. I figure it would have to take place on a ship, not necessarily the Flying Dutchman, since he has that whole "land issue" thing.

Captain Fabris, do not despair of a suitable justaucorps just yet, (sounds a little like a Nazi panzer division, doesn't it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ) I've seen screenshots of AOP models that I bet would serve your turn. Just wish we could get our hands on that game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

I like the sound of that. We could turn it into part of the quest: You battle the <i>Flying Dutchman</i> and loose, so you have to play Jones for your soul. You win, you walk off to the nearest port alive... you loose, you are damned for eternity to serve Jones. (Though I'm sure we'd have to come up with some sort of escape! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />)

Thomas the Terror, I'd like to send you the soldier, but I overwrote them with the Derringer skins and I don't have your e-mail. If I got your e-mail and dug around in my backup files, I could send one to you. What file do you need? One from the Resource/models/characters folder?

Certainly chaps like this fellow in red here would be useful:

However, using AOP files would be one potential solution but the problem would be making any files available to gamers who do not themselves own a copy of AOP. Whilst for POTC any user created content is perfectly legal as to use it at all you must already possess a copy of POTC, the possibility of using AoP files in POTC may prove to be illegal in that people not having bought the content (ie owning a copy of AoP) are in some way using content from it, which could be considered er...piracy. I can forsee problems with this approach

I will pm you my email, but i need the texture, not the model. I overwrote mine when i skinned my first american soldier on the base of the english one, oh and i have 3 American soldiers skinned now. I will put them on the ftp when i have them ingame
