Categorizing Models

Cat: These are the three not-yet-used-for-unique chars I recall of yours, and some ideas of use.
DanBlack - QMaster?
Fanielle - Gunner?
sailor7 - if not being used for Marc...in the general sailors pool? Something else unique?

Alan: do you want all of yours left unique, or shall we put some in encounter categories?
(NB tavern-officer-types (bosun/nav/qmaster etc.) are also a categories...and you can give each model as many categories as you like).

I've added a new citizen category, Upper_Citizens.
Most of the current Middle_Citizens are now Upper, and the Lower_Cits with fancier clothes (i.e. a vest too, like man1, oldman1, etc.) are now Middle.
Also swapped the TGs around some (again, I could _really_ use some help with that...fashion-concious I am not. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ), spread out among lower/middle/upper/rich.

I've also set some provisional officer assignments to the various 'adventurous women' you artists mentioned as non-unique.
As usual, you folks have final say, these are just ideas.
LCroft: Bosun
India: navigator
Aine: gunner
Petra: qmaster

TG5D: Gunner
Piratess10: Firstmate, "Captains" generic group (at 0.5), and Captains (PIRATE) at 1.0

Sure we can't put at least a few in the Upper_Citizens (or some Cit) pool, at least for now? So there's more female variety I mean.
(If not, I'll try to make enc_officers also spawn in town walking around, that'll at least make them appear in town, not just tavern; also I mentioned before setting some fantoms based on local CRs but that's not started let alone done yet.)
----
Elbaro: Middle_citizens (like oldman1).

I haven't any real preference for any of them, just made them while playing around with skinning (practicing "work avoidance") (practice makes perfect, you know!). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

OK, I'll place them as that.

Heck, you're right.

At Nathan's request here is how I guess I would categorize my meager collection of models. (I forget the model names so these are their names on Pieter's modpack page.)

Well, I had unique roles in mind for all of them, but I gues that can't really happen unless I am able to finish writing a quest or two. Right now they are all outfits you can buy and I figured that made them unique enough, to assign them to your own character or NPC. I think I would like to see some as pirate captains too, like when you just see the portrait after capturing a ship. I am tired of the lack of variety there and some of these make nice viscious piratey captain characters.

Capt. Hook: definately a pirate captain
Wurmwoode: pirate captain
Phinneas Wake: pirate captain, maybe an officer
Beatrice: officer
Girl Patch: pirate captain
Lady in Red: upper/rich citizen (I modeled her after some royalty's daughter in Le Pact du Lupes), maybe an officer.

Or does anyone have suggestions for characters these models could replace?

I just updated the PotC character page at <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.net" target="_blank">Pieter's Pirates Page</a> with Alan Smithee's preferred usage of his character models.

BTW 1: Yesterday I encountered Daniell1 as enemy in the Oxbay dungeons. I was thinking, possibly Girl Patch could be used for this as well? Just a suggestion...? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

BTW 2: I was wondering if you would be able to give me a hand with making the blacksmiths also repair guns. I should be able to figure out how to do it code-wise (I promise I will try coming Saturday), but I reckon I'll be needing your help for the additional dialog options, as well as for making the different smiths have different qualities, prices and whether they're gunsmiths, swordsmiths, etc. If you want to help me with that, I'll tell you what you can help me with when I have the code working. Unless I'll have trouble with that; then I will ask sooner. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Pieter:
1. Dungeon monsters are set to nation PIRATE and type 'Smugglers' and that's defined as:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    ModelSubTypes.Smugglers.Poor_Citizens = 0.1;
    ModelSubTypes.Smugglers.Lower_Citizens = 0.15;
    ModelSubTypes.Smugglers.Sailors = 0.65; //0.45;
    ModelSubTypes.Smugglers.Mates = 0.9; //0.75;
    ModelSubTypes.Smugglers.Captains = 1.0; //0.9;<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
So any model you assign to one of those types with either all nations, or nation PIRATE specifically, will have a chance of showing up.

2. There were some changes I need to make to that dialog as well, actually; to make price dependent on quality so it isn't hardcoded (and ditto max-repair-level), and also to allow all the smiths to share one C file but each have a different H file (so code need be edited only once).

Hey! That's cool! So once the models have their appropriate modeltype set, they'll even show up in these cases. COOL! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
I really like the new model-types mod. Very nice encountering more different-looking people. And female officers now being properly hireable is also excellent. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

While you're at it anyway, could YOU write them to repair guns as well? I was having some small difficulties with that when I tried to make the gunsmith mod work. And then when the gunsmith_dialog.c file seemed to work more-or-less, a lot of things got changed, so I don't think it works quite well anymore. If it works at all, that is... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Sure.

My belated but sincere thanks to all the modelers and sound designers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" /> . Looks and sound of this game have been much improved by your work <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

And the new system of choosing models by category makes the creation of special encounters much easier. BTW, where can I get the best overview of the categories, and are there categories that would yield models for "slaverevolts" and "indian raids" ?

I have now updated the characters page on my site to show all the currently assigned categories for the models in initModels.c . I also moved the models that are not in the game after installing the post Build 12 modpack to the bottom of the page. It was a lot of work (especially when Frontpage crashed halfway through the work, so I could start over again), but I hope this will help you assigning the models to the proper categories.

Two things I noticed:
- Towngirl7 in lower_citizens? I'd put her a bit higher... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
- Why does it say "model.assigned = true;true;" for skeletons and towngirls, but "model.assigned = true;" for ordinary models in initModels.c?

<!--QuoteBegin-Pieter Boelen+Jul 26 2005, 03:46 PM--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen @ Jul 26 2005, 03:46 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Two things I noticed:

It be a typo, I bet. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Re: TG7. I did that on the basis of attire; her dress seemed to have more in common with 5 & 6, i.e. plain cloth, than the more silky and ornate vestements of TG1-3 (&4!).
But whatever you folks figure, I'm out of my depth by far. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Good reasoning, Nathan.

Never had much of a chance to go through the Categorising list, been busy, heh...

But I would say, yes, lower - considering the quality of cloth that her clothing is made of and the fact that her dress do look a wee bit like something that could be found on a waitress, with that bustline. Sure, TG4 shows something <i>similar</i>, but in a so called tasteful manner. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Just my two centavos anyway...
