Seeing the list above I realise I do need to make some more "mundane" people too, heheh, or at the very least some officers... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Do we need any particular type of models? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Or should I ask that in a new thread? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

I had the idea of changing Malcolm Hatcher's begin dialog to add all great recent player character skins to the dialog. Or maybe we could, when starting the game, open up a model selection screen like the one available through the F2 character menu and have all cool models be available to choose from then.

50grey1 ... Me, I did this for my own character avatar, and anyone else who would want to use it as an officer/main character.
I like it being assigned to Gregor Samsa.
I don't think it should be common.
<div align="right"></div><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm glad you like those character switches. BadV and 50grey1 should be unique then, right? Used only as Artois Voysey and Gregor Samsa. And possibly the player character, of course.

This is a model I'm not sure of what he could be used for. Basically, he can be used for anything. I am wanting to do some more character switching, including replacing Raoul Rheims with a more pirate captain-like model, so that when you encounter him the first time, you'll think "What the HECK is a pirate captain doing HERE?". Now his model is way too common. I thought maybe 50_evl2in would make a good Raoul Rheims. But if anyone has a better idea... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I would like having them walk around as hireable officers. You're right that they wouldn't really be right as towngirls, but would like to have them walking around every now and then. Until someone decides to use them in a quest.

Wouldn't that look terribly silly? What about making a category "player character crew" where we could add sailor characters that are obviously different from the enemy sailor characters?

Some thoughts on new models:
General:
Some more rich citzens:
-Young (mostly male because we lack any young rich male IIRC).
-Women (esp. older women)

In fact, 'general' women, period, we're very short of--there's one old woman skin, and only a few 'normal' women skins--no poor at all, I'm rather shaky on which should be mid or lower (and more needed in either or both depending on how they're categorized), and rich women both old and young (though there are a few young--Lize and tg4 IIRC).

Middle-class men (and as above women too!)--there are /some/: this is not as sorely needed as above, but more would be nice.

Older folks, same (both male & female, but more female--there are at least both the old_man and the hubers for male, but only oldwoman for female).

A couple more priests, esp. Anglican [fn1]--and perhaps converting man3/man3_1 to Calvinist ministers? (For Dutch, but also British 1645-1660 or so)

[fn1]Having the British church folks use the Priest rather than monk models.

Unique:
A new Jurcksen to free Capitan (mentioned somewhere around here)

-------
Time period wise, we could use converting some of the Spanish/Por governor/admiral folks to use North. Euro heads, for Elizabethan/early-c17 rich North-Euro folks.

More long-termish:
We could do with converting the British soldiers to more like ECW-era folks--actually, heh, the old French soldiers would do OK as Cavaliers probably, but we need some Roundheads (probably could convert from Portugal, with officer from Holland?)
Also I think it'd be good if all the soldiers wore armor rather than just some; but that'd be some work adding it to the Br. and Fr. folks.
(And then at the end of the century, we could sub in JMV/Deringer's c18th work--but what kind of uniforms did late c17, early c18 Dutch soldiers wear?--and then none of them would have armor.)

Existing models:
Any ideas what class TG2, 2_1, 3, and 3_1 ought to be? I'm frankly stumped.

Pieter: The blue French soldiers are from Duke Surak'nar.
Also, both Inez and Elbaro are on the New Characters thread IIRC; Inez is up on the FTP now too I believe.
Chameleon goes to Sailors, I'd think.
-------
Re: Newgame.
I think we could do with copying some of the P! / SMP newgame stuff, so I'd prefer a screen rather than overworking Malcolm even further.

To not make useless the Tailors, I'd rather see only low-end models be available at start, with the richer stuff only buyable. But then coolness not necessarily = rich...

Re: Raoul Rheims: I think of Raoul as a very slick customer, very slick indeed. Maybe one of the new Corsair1_* models from A&M?

Re: crew.
It would, but it's a more generic solution than needing to make custom skins--and it also means you could use _any_ skin for your own side, i.e. CCC's group choices, etc.
Not a very good solution, but the only one that 1. doesn't require a bunch of new skins and 2. allows the pchar to have choice in boarders.
Anyone else have an idea? Please? :]

<b>Nathan</b>, I will see what I can do with models, but I fear the problem with skirted ladies will limit the new models - new skins appears to, at this time, to be the only way to change them, unless I put their top on a pair of legs... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

They'll turn out fine I'm sure. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
(It's only recently we've moved into thinking we really /can/ change models, anyway... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> )

The problem is that even though the bone numbers aren't messed (thanks to UVs), there's still skeletal glitches when you reimport skirted models? (even without tool-side forced rebinding?)

They get the ever-so-popular-among-the-guys female movement (hip-swing), which is not there normally. This causes severe gaps at their waist, since they are far less flexible in their upper body compared to Danielle... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

But why this happen in the first place, I have no idea. I do know they use woman.an, if only selected parts - but they must somehow be different... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

And rebinding, alas, does not work for fingers (last I tried), so either they will have stiff, flat hands or permanently "sword grasping" hands, I suppose... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

About the skirted models - not sure I get the problem: if you convert them to wrl, edit in C4D, and convert back to gm *without* changing the animation (that is using towngirl.ani which points to woman.an) you should be allright. Is that not so ? Then please explain what precisely you did, resulting in this tearing at the waist.

Re fingers: That's unfortunately still true, my binding routine's just too primitive to do fingers. But thanks to what Nathan taught me about binding a short while ago I'll give it another try soon.

Thing is, they work just fine (minus the usual flaws that always have been there) when bought from the tailor (with woman.an) when untouched, but save them as VRML and reload and there it is:

<div align="center"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/justagrrl/comparison1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/justagrrl/comparison2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></div>
These are not even loaded into C4D, merely saved from the Tool as VRML and then instantly reloaded. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> I have no clue what goes wrong where, but something is. Affrica, 50_33Inez and Elbaro are now also added to my page.
Just a suggestion: Could everyone having unreleased models please post pictures of them, so I can add them to my page? Then we would know what is already in the works.

As for the character switching: I reckon I'll start a new thread on that soon. Then we can comment on a new Jurcksen and Rheims model there. I reckon Raoul Rheims is someone who might deserve a unique model, so I wouldn't choose the Corsair models, because these can mostly be used all over the place. I'm not quite sure who would look right though.

That's indeed strange. I think I remember there was something about vertices being unwelded in VRML - I'll check, maybe I can just weld them again.

Hey Nathan, Pieter, you want some help with bugfixing? I'll probably not be very good at it, but it seems unfair you two do all the tedious work while the rest of us get the fun projects ...

I found a few minutes to "play" this afternoon, so here's a project I'm working on:

<img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/cyrus1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/cyrus2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

He's going to be changed a bit, tho, model-wise, before I'm finished, if Lass is willing...

This is Cyrus, from one of my favorite games, "Redguard." <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<a href="http://www.avault.com/featured/redguard/avscreenshot.asp?pic=ss_large/gn_Image06.jpg&width=720&height=486" target="_blank">He's originally looks like this.</a>

Okay, I know we were supposed to be working on "ordinary" citizens. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> Cyrus has been on my mind for a while now... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Sure thing, Cat. Can't promise when, but I can do it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Email is enroute! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Heh, that's great, Cat! Snazzy gentleman indeed.

(I really have to play Redguard beyond the first hour sometime...)

And unless you want to reserve him as a unique, I think he'd be a great 'generic corsair' model, like say corsair2.

(Slight suggestion: could you darken (or change the brightness curve of) the pants slightly? The yellow looks kinda grey and washed out...)
----
There's no "supposed to be working on ordinary citizens"--it's just a thought. Work on whatever you like; it'll be good. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
(The same to all, BTW; please don't take this 'ordinary models' stuff as a command...)

Pieter: re: new chars. I don't have a shot of the temp native, but I've sent that to you in the zip IIRC.

Re: switching. Good call, good to have a centralized thread on it.

Well, help's always appreciated. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
But you needn't worry, bugfixing's not so tedious. And besides those 'fun projects' you turn out are _way_ bigger fish than some bugfixing--viz. the dialog edit tool you just released!
(And if we tried to do those, they'd be either impossible or tedious or both. So to each their own. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

You're right about that one. Forgot to add it. But I will do so later today. By the time you read this, the native will be on the page as well. Including a picture. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Wow Cat! Great Character <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I just encountered this guy in a house telling me he's a gunner on a Brittish ship. The Brittish must have fallen on really low times if they need to hire someone like THAT as a gunner. I suppose the model/dialog link might need a little bit more tweaking. I hope it can be made so that gunners look like gunners.
Just an observation, I'm sure it will be changed soon. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
