The carronades look rather small...but good to see them there! The other ship looks intriguing! Hmm, a Temeraire class 74? Or an extremely large and built up indiaman?

Yeah, I thought the size looked a little off but I'd used the same scale conversion as for the cannon...The carronades look rather small...but good to see them there! The other ship looks intriguing! Hmm, a Temeraire class 74? Or an extremely large and built up indiaman?
Wouldn't want that! but actually wish I'd taken them a bit slower, quality mightve suffered because I built them so fast, and half of them still aren't in gameI'll be fixing that now that its summer and I have the time. But I would not reccomend building more than one ship at a time, it tends to slow down progress on both in the end, and you end up with completed ships still not ingame a very long time after you finish them.Woah, slow down there. Does this mean you've finished the Shannon and she's ready to be converted for use in PotC and CoAS?
At this rate, it looks as though you'll end up like Captain Armstrong, churning out ship models faster than we can get them into the games!
So does that mean we'll be seeing some more screenshots from you pretty soon? I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done for Hearts of Oak...Wouldn't want that! but actually wish I'd taken them a bit slower, quality mightve suffered because I built them so fast, and half of them still aren't in gameI'll be fixing that now that its summer and I have the time.
Fair enough; I've been in that situation before, so I know what you mean.Armada, no the Shannon is not yet complete, she is getting close but everything left is fiddly and not much fun, was feeling a little burned out and decided to take a break to build something else.
Hopefully very soon! Just running my work by a more experienced modeler before I reveal it, so as soon as he replies and I make any required changesSo does that mean we'll be seeing some more screenshots from you pretty soon? I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done for Hearts of Oak...
We use class names for all new navy ships in PotC and will probably do so in Hearts of Oak, so "Canopus class 3rd (or 2nd?) Rate" would be ideal. Will wait and see what naming convention is used. GoF seems to use a mixture of individual ship names and descriptions like "Heavy Frigate". If we are using class names for Hearts of Oak she can be the Canopus class, otherwise I might pick an individual name from one of the captured Tonnants.
If you're working on internal details below the waterline, make sure you can easily remove them for PotC and CoAS.Cut gunports, added hull thickness, building the internal structure and decks now. Half tempted to rebuild the Shannon's hull like this...
3rd rate in British service, I don't know what the french designation would be. Which said, she is a few feet longer than the Victory and carries an extra pair of guns on each of the two lower gundecks. We use class names for all new navy ships in PotC and will probably do so in Hearts of Oak, so "Canopus class 3rd (or 2nd?) Rate" would be ideal.
All modular, only the inner side of the hull above the waterline is actually attached to the exterior hull. If I model the hold and orlop at this stage they will be a distinct group that can be remove with a single click. Decks are broken up into beams and separate upper/lower surfaces. For PotC/CoAS the gundeck will only use the upper surface, upper gundeck will use upper and lower surfaces, decks above this will use beams too.If you're working on internal details below the waterline, make sure you can easily remove them for PotC and CoAS.
Everything inside that is below the waterline is inaccessible (therefore invisible) to the player, so there is no point in wasting polygons. Only in Hearts of Oak should we be able to open up all decks for the player.
Sounds good to me.All modular, only the inner side of the hull above the waterline is actually attached to the exterior hull. Ah, that must be my earliest version then. Armada helped me with it, so that makes sense that that is the model he has. Here is the complete version, with texture

I haven't been able to get the long guns to import with textures...Looks great! and the long guns use the same texture as well unless you've changed the UVs?
