what do we want to see in the next GOF mod!

Well, this one may not be worth your time, and it may not be possible, but I would personally like to see rolling broadsides from fore to aft. That was one of the usual methods broadsides were fired in to avoid damaging the timbers of the vessel. (Replica tall ships, like the Californian that have enough guns usually use that method as well; as well as preserving the vessel's structure, it also looks much neater than a random discharge)

Of course, this all fell apart when the order "fire at will" was given.

oh - want?
"want" is a strong word...
But i am dreaming of:
(things that dont exist, or maybe i have not found the functions yet?)

the 96 heroes included in GOF 1.2
newest ships
only the ships with somewhat complete takelage, the rest be burned and sunk

a button/function that allows me to
"instantly sell all trinkets in my pocket"
"sell all health potions"
"sell all weapons"
"sell entire pocket content"
"sell all trade objects in the hull" (stuff non-related to the ships maintenance and functioning like wheat, slaves, gold, silver, linen...)

Giving my ships their own names (12 characters?)
The naming system of the ships to be more technical and standardized
The icons of the ships (in the selling menues) to reflect more accurately what the product is

some youp**n movies for the brothel... XD

i also would like to see a way to arrange the hips in my fleet - what ship sails up front, what ship sails in the middle and in the back
-and also choose the last ship in the row if i wish to.

have a fleet of 8 or even 10 ships at my disposal, for trading and escorts

...pretty much it... :)

i like that idea the fact we can name our ships would be cool and which ships could sail infront or behind us etc in a convoy i had a simular idea like when you go into battle you could have batle formations etc column 'line'wedge etc that would make it more interesting espescilly when your attacikng a millatary convoy and also i think this has been brought up before but when you board [im not sure this is possible] how you only fight on the main deack iv seen in potc were you board you fight in the cabain as well as on deack it would be pretty cool if you could fight throught out the ships to the cargo bay to the cabain beacuse basicly when you kill every one on deack you have basicly won its very easy fighting the captian with one on one but if it was like potc i think that would be a challange and make the game more harder for some.

I would like to see more realistic crew numbers, both in the player's vessel and in NPC vessels. For example, a medium-sized merchant brig (around 100 feet unrigged) would only have had about 12 people on board. The Speedy, (called "merchant brig" ingame, I believe,) should have a maximum complement of about 75 people A small merchant sloop might have as little as four or five men onboard. Usually ingame, the men of war are only slightly overmanned, with the merchantmen being the main problem. (They would historically hire a crew of a size that was only just able to work the ship to save money. Furling all the sails, for example, could take up to two hours of doing one sail at a time.)

Oh, and I would also like CARRONADES. I believe some calibers of gun were removed in this last version. They could be replaced with a few of the more common calibers of carronade. For realism, four pound carronades could be named nine-pounder carronades, and twelve pound carronades could be renamed 32 pounders, and so on. This would reflect the lighter weight of the carronades, enabling ships, for example, that can only carry four pound guns to carry "nine pound carronades." Generally, ships could carry heavier carronades than they could long guns.

I believe everything has been mentioned by other users above, i would like to add one more thing: to be able to have 6 fighters to follow you around.

Bring back Demasting. I can shoot a ship down to 0 sails... but they still sail significantly better than as if demasted.

Certain larger ships seem to cause crashes.

Hell... once I get a decently sized ship I can just overfill it with men and just charge into the constant barrage of bounty hunters that get sent after me with the highest tiered ships, raid em, take em, then add more troops.

Comes down to-

Can't demast the ships, so I have to charge in without killing off their soldiers via grape shot because if I do since they can maneuver as they still have sails and since they have more guns they'll destroy me. Then I end up charging in, taking the ship, haivng like 40 crew left. Abandoning my old ship and stuck with a ship that constantly causes crashes.

It would be great if we could equip the companion as in the town accessible by ship directly to a chest.
Maybe by opening the chest and can then choose which companion will equip what, so far one can only own chest in front of the ship are available.

Perhaps storydriven and unique storylines with a campaign styled plot and protagonist like in the POTC Build.

Historically viable, of course. I know Captain Armstrong is working on an 1812 one that I really liked, it could be useful for that.
I like carronades.

I can't say I agree with the above suggesting to bring back demasting; It seems like all any npc in a large vessel does is shoot at your rigging without ever trying to approach you. It usually ends up as a pounding match that lasts until you run out of powder. Most sea battles in the game's time frame did not occur like that at all, and were solved by boarding. I'd even advocate increasing the sail's resistance to gunfire.

That was the one thing coas lacked, with an exception of my namesake's prologue, which was more of a game introduction/tutorial. A cross between the two games would be amazing. The gameplay of COAS mixed with the storydriveness of potc.

Storydriveness in PotC was good, but that constant feel of being in hurry killed whole immersion. Stories in this kind of games need slowdowns, possibly forced by reputation or cash requirements, allowing player to get better ship in the meantime. Let's say ecountering Sovereign of the Seas in New Horizons campaign was a huge suprise for me. :wp
This should be kept in mind, if someone is going to add campaign to CoaS.

aop the secrets of far seas ( a russian mod) has e very interesing feature like creating colony on a island,, it would be awesome to have this feauture on next version of gof.

That actually sounds pretty cool, but I bet it would be a horrible task to implement it. I was reading a book called "Privateers and Privateering," and there were some very interesting storylines and characters. (and they actually happened.) Some of them might make interesting plots in the game.

Here's a good example: Fortunatus Wright
He's a unique protagonist, (with a cool name, which is important for generating interest) and with a quick setting change he would work admirably.

Direct Sail would be great, Enemy ships surrendering, demasting enemy ships,....I could go on, but those are the most important for me.

I forgot to add that the book I have goes into far more detail about Fortunatus than the Wikipedia page does.

My desires are of a different note. what would I like to see in the next MOD?

I would like to see a smarter enemy/companion AI. I do not want to see a ship spinning and shooting from every side, regardless of wind speed and direction. Heck they aren't even sailing in a circle, they are literally just sitting and spinning. I would like to see the enemy actually try and use the wind, or at least some type of tactic other than sit-n-spin-n-shoot.

I would like to see smarter engagement AI. Meaning, less pirate sloops chasing my manowar on the OS. If they were a group of 4 pirates in frigates or 10 sloops/brigs... I could see them harrasing a manowar, but not a freakin single sloop or brigantine. Those guys are not going to chase me across half the map.

I would like to see better commands for our fleet. Such as: "follow me", "disengage" and "cease fire".

I would like to see the OS wind tinkered with so it is not blowing in my face 95% of the time at full force, no matter which way I turn, and the other 5% that it is blowing the way I want to go... but the wind speed drops to almost nothing. This happens far too often for it to not be on purpose.

I would like to see the skills "light repair" and "quick repair" fixed so they are actually worth the points to take them. The only time I have ever gotten the quick repair button to show up is when I have had a mast taken down. Of course, the skill cannot repair a downed mast... so WTF good is it?

Now that totems and items no longer give skill increases and those increases are all gained through books (which is fine and makes more sense to me anyways). Please modify the quest rewards for the nautical quiz quests., and any others that may have been affected. At least make that 35lb statue worth more than 95 gold (at 100 trading).

That is all for now.

I don't know if it could be done, but I agree completely about the AI. It would even be nice if we could just get them to stop spinning in circles.

I'd really like to see far fewer pirates. Generally, my ship is chased by at least one pirate on every trip between Nevis and Antigua, and many times if I'm going all the way from Trinidad to Hispaniola. The way it is, you'd think that every merchant was attacked by pirates every time they left port back then. A much smaller chance to be attacked by pirates would be great, and I think it would take a lot of the pressure off the beginning of the game to quickly get a hold of some powerful ships, allowing players to set their own pace.

A slower pace would be great for storylines, too. It could focus on the character actually establishing himself from the start, without having to worry about the "Poor lowly tartane captain" (for example) of the story actually having half a dozen frigates under his command just so he doesn't get killed for trying to leave the port.
