A very steep water slide? Pretty scary. The same water slide, but with a shark coming down it right behind you? Yeah, that takes things to the next level.

At the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, there's a shark tank right next to the waterslide. Somehow, one of the sharks managed to jump out of its tank and onto the slide.

Yesterday morning at around 9:30 AM, prior to the resort's waterscape opening to guests, a 12+-year-old female reef shark jumped over an 18 inch wide and 1 foot high sustaining structure into the resort's Leap of Faith water slide.

Luckily, there was no one on the slide at the time (although that would have been absolutely amazing, especially if the shark was wearing sunglasses for some reason), but unfortunately for the shark the water in the slide pool was highly chlorinated to kill all the tourist pee that inevitably gathers in such bodies of water. The chlorine ended up doing the shark in before they could get it back to its tank.

A bank robber in the US is facing a life sentence after a blunder that led police straight to him.

The witless robber left a trail of clues

The man walked into a Chicago bank and handed a teller a note that read: "Be Quick Be Quit (quiet). Give your cash or I'll shoot."
He was handed about $400 but mistakenly left half the note, written on his October payslip, behind.
Detectives found the other half outside the bank - complete with his name and address.
Police said they had known some strange bank robberies but none quite like this one.

"It's fairly unusual that we see something that specifically stupid."
said FBI spokesman Ross Rice

US Mum Gives Birth To 18th Child
Friday December 19, 2008
A woman from Arkansas has given birth to her 18th child - and says she has no plans to stop adding to her family yet.

The Duggar family: the oldest is 20, the youngest is just one day old.
Baby girl Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar entered the world via Caesarean section, weighing 7lb 3oz and measuring 20 inches long.
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, who had not been expecting their latest arrival until January, said she was "a gift from God".
The proud father described the new baby as "just absolutely beautiful" and said they would "love to have more".
Mr and Mrs Duggar married in 1984 and held back from babies for four years.
"We don't want children right now," they said to themselves.
"We can't afford them. We want children in our timing, when we're ready."
And even after the birth of their first child, the couple did not want to rush ahead with more children and Mrs Duggar went back on the pill.
However, she became pregnant again while on the pill, but suffered a miscarriage.
That changed the mind of the staunch Christians, who felt they had robbed a child of a life and from that day on they decided to have as many children as "God saw fit".
Mrs Duggar's next pregnancy resulted in the birth of twins, and the rest followed, including another set of twins.
They now have 10 sons and eight daughters, including the latest addition to their family.
The couple, who are both estate agents, have built a family home in Tontitown in Arkansas that is big enough to allow for a few more additions yet.

Man left dangling upside down, pantsless after Vail lift mishap

JANUARY 6--In a bizarre incident that will surely lead to litigation (or an out-of-court settlement), a skier at Colorado's ritzy Vail resort was left dangling upside down and pantsless from a chairlift last Thursday morning. The January 1 mishap apparently occurred after the male skier, 48, and a child boarded a high-speed lift in Vail's Blue Sky Basin. It appears that the chairlift's fold-down seat was somehow not in the lowered position, which caused the man to partially fall through the resulting gap. His right ski got jammed in the ascending chairlift, and that kept him upended since his boot never dislodged from its binding. As seen in the photos on the following pages (which were snapped by fellow skiers), the Skyline Express lift was stopped shortly after the pair's botched boarding resulted in the man dangling from the lift. The exposed skier was stuck for about 15 minutes before Vail personnel backed the lift up and successfully dislodged the unidentified man from the four-seat chair. The images on page four and five were taken by Marty Odom (who can be reached at martyodm@gmail.com if you're interested in licensing the photos). In a statement released this afternoon, Vail Resorts, which operates the ski area, reported that the skier was not injured after being "suspended for approximately seven minutes." The press release did not explain how the mishap occurred, only that "the man was caught on the chair."

Printing error created 1,100 defective tickets

STAFF REPORTER

Ontario gaming officials spent much of yesterday apologizing after acknowledging a printing error created 1,100 false winning lottery tickets.

It is estimated that 50 to 150 of the defective $3 Fruit Smash scratch tickets were purchased, said Rula Sharkawi, executive director of communications at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.

"Near the end of a print run, there was a small batch of tickets that were misaligned at the printer," she said.

In Fruit Smash, players try to match fruit symbols on two sections of the scratch ticket. The printing misalignment meant that some of the tickets had mismatched symbols underneath the latex surface that game players scratch away, said OLG spokesperson Don Pister.

"The indicator of whether the ticket is a winner or not is the actual ticket, not the latex," she said, adding that the only way to determine a winning ticket is to scan the barcode at a retail outlet.

Gaming officials were alerted to the error Friday after a customer contacted the service hotline. Within hours, officials had traced the ticket to a specific batch and were able to pinpoint which stores the misprinted cards had been shipped to.

Eight retailers, all in southern Ontario, were affected.

So far, 15 unlucky "winners" have contacted OLG offices.

Brampton resident Thomas Noftall was one of them. He purchased four cards on New Year's Eve. In total, the 27-year-old father thought he had won $135,000.

By the time he realized gaming officials weren't likely to give him a penny, he had already made plans to move his family out of their basement apartment, send his children to college and live the life he had always dreamed about.

Ontario policy states that misprinted tickets are void, although the company will refund or replace them.

UFO claim over wind farm damage
Dale Vince of Ecotricity says there is no explanation

UFO enthusiasts are claiming damage to a Lincolnshire wind farm turbine was caused by a mystery aircraft.

The turbine at Conisholme lost one 66ft (20m) blade and another was badly damaged in the early hours of Sunday.

County councillor for the area Robert Palmer said he had seen a "round, white light that seemed to be hovering".

Ecotricity, which owns the site, said while investigations continued they were not ruling anything out - but the extent of damage was "unique".

The turbine is one of 20 at the Conisholme site, which has been only been fully operational since April 2008. The broken blade has been recovered and is being examined.

Local ufologists said they had received many reports of activity in the area and had teams searching for clues.

Mr Palmer said: "I actually saw a white light - a round, white light that seemed to be hovering.

"That is the only way I can explain it - it wasn't a flare-like light - it was just round, white light with a slight red edge to it that seemed to be over the wind turbines."

Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity, said the company was keeping an open mind about the incident.

"We don't have an explanation at the moment as to what the cause was," he said.

"We have been crawling all over it and have sent bits off for analysis to see if we can work out what caused it.

"Until we have some idea, some plausible explanation that it was not a UFO, I don't think we should rule it out".

He added: "To make one of these blades fall off, or to bend it, takes a lot."

Motorcyclists in Nigeria have been wearing dried pumpkin shells on their heads to dodge a new law forcing them to wear helmets, authorities say.

Officials in the northern city of Kano said they had stopped several riders with "improvised helmets", following this month's introduction of the law.

Road safety officials said calabash-wearers would be prosecuted.

Thousands of motorbikes have been impounded around the country and taxi motorbike drivers have staged protests.

Calabashes are dried pumpkin shells more commonly used to carry liquid.

According to the new law, all motorbike drivers and motorbike passengers must wear helmets.

Kano Federal Road Safety Commission commander Yusuf Garba told the BBC they were taking a hard line with people found using the improvised helmets.

"We are impounding their bikes and want to take them to court so they can explain why they think wearing a calabash is good enough for their safety," he said.

Fifty motorbikes had been seized so far in Kano city alone, he added.
