Total ship replacement?

Merciless Mark

Build mod - Master Gunner
Storm Modder
Well im no modder but it is an idea i had thought on, now weve seen so many mods that just fixes up gameplay, like the build, wich is fine, however, what drives me to play Sea Dogs more than POTC is the cheesy ship models that POTC has, Battleship, Frigate, Brig, fleut and whatever, they all are so horrible innacurate. most ships look nothing like the way they would have looked like during the 1600's or even 17 and 1800's. i think it would be fun if someone, or some ppl could make a mod to replace all the POTC ships with historically accurate ships <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

at least something better than the cheesy POTC ships. the most horrible ship has to be the galleon wich looks nothing remotley like a galleon <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

What do you proclaim here si known to anybody here. But if you would want to strictly use only the period ships from 17th century, you had to remove very much ships from here, for example caravelas, schooners, brigas, brigantinas, Manowars, barks and so on which would be total stupidity. This is game not simulator. I think the most of people likes all those ships as I like them. The more ships the better. If you don´t want to use them, so don´t use them. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I always thought the galleon looked fine, whats wrong with it? Galleon was a very broad term at that time that covered alot of different sized ships. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Rad it correct, many of the ships are not 17th century ships, but it does make it loads of fun to go trotting off against a bruiser of a battleship with a frigate. If it were historical, almosts everyone would be sailing sloops. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

maybe not compleate 100% accuracy, but most of the models in POTC are horrid, the Sea Dogs ones for example are a heck of alot better

oh and btw i must point out that several of those examples are wrong.

Caravels were first invented in the 1400's, the Brigantine made its apperance in the late 17th century, barks are 18th century but close enough.

My beef is, that the POTC ships look nothing like ships from either 17th, 18th or 19th century.
and its kinda hard to avoid using them when playing POTC.

And finally, the way i see it your post is not needed, i asked if ppl might be intreasted in doing something like it. not for reasons on why not to do it.

I get a kick out of the Pinnace which should be similar to a longboat, but somehow is the size of a fleut. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

i find the Ships in POTC a litle bit low on detail.so litle ropes and the models seem also a little too innacurate..but, we must see that POTC is One of the best games of its type.. in that i m with u!!but this is just a game, it's not supposed to be Real or acurate, it's main porpuse is fun and entertainement!!!!!!! if you want reality, i sugest you find a way to make a time machine and get yourself to the 1700's and have a blast of the Seaman's life as a pirate!!and as im no modeler, i can't complain..
As my old man says: i you want it better, do it yourself!!!
Our modders are already under enough stress in whatt concerns POTC Modding...
I can olnly hope that AOP will be as good as POTC, and that almost all, if not all, the efforts of our modding community can be transfered to that Game!!!!

You know, some ppl here are quite annoying.
if you dont want replacements for the ships, fine. and if you cant post anything constructive then dont post at all, all im asking is if anyone or some ppl might WANT to tackle this, if your dont want it personally then again dont post at all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Oh btw, Sea Dogs, has quite accurate ships for the timeframe, so does AOP(judging from screenies and ingame vid) so there <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Whoa, no need to get uptight about it, everyone is free to give their opinion. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

The modders do have alot on their plates at the moment, and I can't really see them wanting to overhaul the entire ship lineup, it is important that we are considerate to them considering all the work they put into it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Oh yes, and that little "its just a game" comments are intreasting, if thats the way you reason, then why bother with wave's or cannon smoke and ranges in the build mod? after all its just a game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

I like all the ships except the line and war ships of PoTC. They are from modders from Russia and always ask if anybody would be able to rework them so as they looked better it would be good. Their hulls are really quite poor. But I would never cancel them if any better substitutes aren´t at hand so far. What about galleon concerns I don´t like overly the narrow lines of the hull and boths. All the hull should be as though bended so as was slightly sagging but any of these imperfections aren´t substantial for me. Many ships are very good here. Frigates, Corvettes, Brigantinas, Manowars, Ship of the line and so on. There is always something for improving here but there is many more important things in the game that should be solved as for example new large adventurous thrilling quests, removing bugs and so on. Authenticity isn´t too much important here, at least for for me. By the way, MM, if you are so picky, maybe you could design some own great ship for the game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Calm down now, boys... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> No, seriously... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Well I think that for the average PotC player the inaccuracy of ships is not an issue. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

There is HIGH interest in getting more accurate ships into the game, however the trouble is, we have no real modelers here - this has always been a problem. If we could get some modelers here, I'm sure there would be new ships that are more correct &tc...

And that would be REALLY very nice!

Now, the Russian modders have gotten up some FINE ship models - and there are plans to incorporate them into the Build if we can. AlexusB has given us permission to use whatever we wish from their mods in our modding of POTC, so there could be some new ships - just have to have someone or several someones work on getting them into the game. I think there's one person working on one ship model right now that looks awesome. It's not a 17th century ship (it's much later), but it has a lot of the details we're all looking for...

Doober is right about the sloops. For coastal sailing and in the Caribbean in the 1600's, the sloop was the thing. You would never see ships like the MOW or some of the larger ships - the usual type would be much smaller.

Even in the Great Age Of Sail most pirates sailed in ships no larger than a sloop. It was rare to find them utilizing a larger ship at all.

Yay! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Cat, nice to see you! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

What I meant about inaccuracy was the the average player would like more accurate ships, yes, but can game without them. Well, I think. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Anyway, nice to see ya again... The kiddo in the basket up there got very excited when he saw your ship on the horizon... He rushed down so fast to tell me the news he nearly broke his neck! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> Of course, that useless Artois who I keep for entertainment didn't let me in because I was sleeping... Otherwise I could've come and greeted you! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

actually as a matter of fact i am well up on the subject of the age of sail in the 1600's

There were massive sized ships, even in the early 1600's and im talking about tripple gundeck warships, of course they werent that common right in the caribbean. true alot of pirates sailed around in sloops, but there were just as many who sailed around in brig's. caravels were fair sized ships that were also used. mostly as merchant vessels, and then of course let us not forget the famed spanish galleons, wich ranged in sizes from small to large heavily armed warships.
Frigates have also been around as early as the 1640's.
Merchant vessels were at times captured and converted into pirate ships as well.

So to sum it up, saying that most ships you would see in the caribbean during the 17th century would be sloops and small ships isnt quite right <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

i hope this little lecture has been an educational experience <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I'm too busy to argue history with ya, MM... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Sorry. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> That is SO not fair! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I don´t think most pitares sailed at sloops in those times and I think too the caravels didn´t sailed too much if at all in 17th century becuase they were typical ships of 15 and 16 century and not of 17th century. And brig isn´t ship from 17th century but I think brigs first time appeared in 18th century. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

<a href="http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761571524_4/Ship.html" target="_blank">http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761571524_4/Ship.html</a>

<a href="http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/s/sl/sloop-of-war.htm" target="_blank">http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclope...loop-of-war.htm</a>

So that if would be history strictly respected only few types of ships would remain here and it wouldn´t be really good. The game would be deprived of all those great ships which they are now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I'm sure that if I'd have been a pirate, I would've preferred using a Brig. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Very nice ships of those times was ducht types of ships. In the time of Admiral Ruyter (middle of 17th century) Holland was quite powerful see power.

Very true. And now look at them. Hardly anyone knows the country even exists! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
