the drawing isn't going very well. i had to start over because i couldn't really put the idea on paper properly. i've now chosen for a brigantine and a higher perspective. as far as i can see, it's going better than the last attempt.
 
A brigantine? I like brigantines. That was my ship of choice in the first pirate RPG I ever played. Unfortunately that game used to crash just about every single time I would fire my cannons. As much as the PotC bugs might be annoying, they're not THAT bad! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
 
the ship's nearly finished. i'm going to add crew silhouettes next, and shadows. then it's the island, the sea, and the sky. don't worry, i'll leave a big gap to add the text in the lower-left corner and in the top. however: i think someone else will have to colour it in. and could someone tell be how many cannons there are on the side of the ship? i've waited with drawing those for now, but i will have to do that next.
 
What ship? The brigantina in the game has 22 cannons. 2 bow chasers, 2 stern chasers and 9 cannons on each side.
 
i'm talking about the ship in the drawing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> anyway, although i've largely forgotten how the hull looks in-game, i think it resembles it pretty well. it's too late to change now, anyway.
 
For the drawing you can just add as many cannons as you think looks good.
 
well, i'm trying to keep it as accurate to the in-game brigantine as possible, so the new users will be able to use the ship if they want to, and not find that the ship isn't actually there.
 
I have a couple of banners, the first being a little more geared for the sailing navy buffs and Napoleonic nuts.

I really like that second banner of yours. That shows just about exactly what I want: A nice sailing ship on the right with plenty of space for the title text. Would be nice to add a PotC skull and crossbones logo behind the "Pirates of the Caribbean" text though. Also I would have "PiratesAhoy! Community Build Mod XIV" positioned elsewhere, being somewhat smaller. Otherwise it seems the game's title is a bit too long. In any case: I really like that second one! It would go very well with the "New Horizons" title, because it shows land on the horizon! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Would it be nice to show Jack Sparrow or some other film character/ship on the banner as well? And how did you add that "Pirates of the Caribbean" text? It looks to be in the official font.

And I have not had an answer yet for how long we should keep the poll running. Can everybody agree with "Pirates of the Caribbean: New Horizons"? Can we decide for certain if this will be the title we'll be using or will keep on searching for a different one? Of course when a better title presents itself, we can always rename.
 
So, second banner, smaller PA! font located elsewhere, and... does "Under the Black Flag' sound good?

What if I put a layer on top of the whole banner, darkening it and hinting a jolly roger in the background?

I've voted for PotC: Spanish Main option as I believe modders' efforts should go away as far as possible from Disney "ideas" and focus on realism of XVII century Caribbean. I believe such title should picture that process best.

How about a view from behind some sailers working in the topgalants of one of the new ships in the build? .....Sharing the view over the mast into endless ocean and endless adventures? (New Horizons)

i could use that idea for a loading screen. it could replace the one for when you go to 3D sailing view from the worldmap. i've got enough knowledge of a ship's construction and some actual photos from sailors clewing up sail on the yard (taken by one of the sailors ON the yard) for it.

Only we don't have the Spanish Main in the game, so wouldn't that cause a bit of a disappointment with people getting the modpack? Personally I like both the realism and the Pirates of the Caribbean stuff, but I think that people liking the realism shouldn't be forced to play the PotC stuff. So I think the movie stuff should be reserved for the quests and the people not wanting that stuff can just ignore the quests.
