As far as I know all those screenies are legit; the subsim interview has several screenies of the .psd's and they look fantastic... amazing what some shaders and filters can do for you in game.
If you playing a campaign in sh3, and you want to score some of the big ships... try to figure out the dates that some of em where in port... and more often then not the ships will be in port... sneak in, and sink em while there refitting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />
