Picking away at it at this rate I'll probably have it finished in a week or two. Ran into a issue with the Hudson as I'm confused with what ship to compare her to. She's a paddle wheel steam frigate with 40+ guns the problem is that most early paddle wheel frigates barley carried 20 guns. The later screw type steam frigates could hold that many guns but those didn't start showing up until the 1850's.

The steam frigates are basically the Constitution with paddlewheels added.
If I recall, cargo space is decreased a bit compared to the Constitution on purpose, figuring that the engine equipment takes some space as well.
 
Ah that explains it, thanks I'll use the same data for the Hudson as the Constitution. Might subtract the engine weight if I can find how much a steam engine weighed.

The Aurora in the game is completely fictional. :wp I took the original 'corvette' model from the base game and made some modifications by eye.

I named her after the Russian frigate Aurora of the early 1800s (can't remember the exact date) which, based on photos of a wooden model, might have influenced the design of the original game's corvette. We already found an exact match for the original 'frigate', which is now replaced with the Kreyser class in-game, but the rest of the stock game ships are much harder to pin down. I'd post a link to the photos, but it seems the site hosting them has long since disappeared.
 
Thanks Armada I'll use the same bm for the Aurora/Fast Merchantman as the Kreyser class. Going to do the work for ships that need bm calculations last as I will be bringing in someone far more competent with math than me to help lol. :cheers

Have most of the schooners finished. Man this game has more schooners than a pub in Long Beach (A little bit of California humor there for ya) Made another judgement call with the Grand Schooner (Schooner Xebec) couldn't find any data on her or any schooner like her (3 masted gaff with 20+ guns) Spent about 2 hours searching. So I compared the game info between the Grand Schooner and the Naval Schooner and the cargo was about 100 cwt
difference so I added 2540 cwt +100 to the Grand Schooner. I'm sure some of you might say...

But if I can't find the info I can't find the info have to come up with the numbers somewhere. If any of you want to look be my guest I would prefer tons burthen (bm) but if you can find me the length and beam I can calculate the bm from those measurements. Also need help with the Topsail Schooner know she's called the rum runner but the only rum runner schooner I can find is the Prohibition Era Schooners from the 1920's. Calling it a night the only Schooners I want to see right now are glass and filled with beer. :cheers
 
Based on Hull shape, the Grand Schooner uses the Xebec one and the Rum Runner users the regular Schooner one.
 
The Grand Schooner is actually a Schooner rigged Xebec. The hull is 22 meters long at the keel and approx. 6.6 meters wide. She is also pretty shallow draft at approx. 2.3 meters below the waterline. This is from the GMViewer.
 
Ok so I've pulled up the Victory, is there a measuring tool in GM viewer? all I'm seeing is the grid. Or if theres a tutorial somewhere just point me in the general direction.
 
There is no tutorial that I know of. Just ask and we will answer. The grid is all you need to take measurements as the lines are 1 meter apart.

Done for the evening made another judgment call on the Empress(Chinese Junk) as she was a fictional ship I based her data off a real Chinese Junk the Keying. I did try to use GM viewer but unfortunately the program isn't 100% accurate as far as length and beam (tested it out with a few ships) it's pretty close though usually within the ball park of most of the ships I've measured. I decided not to use the GM veiwer data for this ship for two reasons #1: The ship is fictitious it never existed in the first place. #2 Why crunch numbers and calculate bm on a ship when I can pull real data from a ship of it's kind? (both ships are 3 masted junks). We have a little saying in the military "Work Smarter Not Harder" think it's the opposite for the marines lol but in this case I'm choosing the latter.

Halfway there got alot done this evening need some more help with some of the ships three to be exact.

1. Coastal Lugger: kinda don't know where to go with this one since I have no idea what type she is (the types are listed on wikipedia). Almost all the Luggers were coastal since they were designed mainly as fishing boats might just go with a standard lugger that closest matches the masts and guns. If I can't find anything I'll fire up GM veiwer and do the measurements as before I'd rather not do it the hard way. If anyone could shed any insight I would appreciate it.

2. Espadina Gunship: For some reason I cannot find a Galeoth to save my life searched three decks and Wikipedia.....no dice. Have little experience with this kind of ship is she like a half Galleon? Does she go by another name? Does anyone know the name of any known Galeoths? Any info would help

3. Escort Ship AKA Wappen von Hamburg: Which one is she? lol there were four ships named as such 1669, 1686, 1722, 1740. Having a little trouble finding good data for them mostly cause mein deutsch ist scheisse lol Google translator only helps so much. Know she's German is there a similar kind of class I could pull some data from?

The reason for the "Coastal" prefix in the name is probably to indicate that she doesn't use the same model file as the original luggers in the game.
But she's a lugger just like the other ones.

If I remember, we were unable to find a real-life reference to a ship like that either so we sort-of made something up.
If you haven't done so already, check out the Ship Recognition Guide in your game's Documentation folder. It is a bit of a weird document and outdated by now, but there is a lot in there nonetheless.

She was originally known as "ConvoiShip" I think. A quick forum search didn't yield any results.
@Armada or @Hylie Pistof, any thoughts?
 
That will teach you to look for sources other than Wikipedia. ;) You could try Google, though these days I normally use DuckDuckGo as it doesn't track you. And a search from there for "Wappen von Hamburg" turned up this:

The important words are "Länge" and "Breite", which are Length and Breadth respectively. That applies to the other ships of that name - look at the pictures, look at the ship in game, decide which version you're playing. ;) Looking at "Ships_init.c" and "Periods.c", ours exists in periods 1 and 2, which are "Spanish Main" (1600-1679) and "Golden Age of Piracy" (1680-1739), which fits with the first Wappen von Hamburg in the German Wikipedia list, that being launched in 1669 and exploding in 1683.
 
Outside of Grey Roger's excellent searches there are 3 Dutch ships in the game with similar stats. They are the Convoiship, the Lineship, and the FWzP. The first 2 are a little larger than the FWzP, but still pretty similar otherwise.
