<b>I am sorry to report that the outageous crew loss bug is not fixed. </b> It did not appear the first few times I boarded. But in boarding 2 gaff rigged xebecs and a schooner from a corvette with full crew of 196 here is what happend.

1. boarded first grx, <b>no fight</b>, tallked to captain, my crew 6!!!, gxr crew 21.

2. Boarded second grx, fight then surrender, my crew 121 gxr crew 23.

3. Boarded schooner <b>no fight</b> my crew 24 gxr crew 13.

Min crew my ship is 41 but when you fall you below that nothing happens unless the other vessel is below their minimum in which case you can't transfer crew, but you can still sail your vessel fight, etc.

Anothre boarding anomaly is once in about 50 boardings the boarding screen froze. You could hear the battle taking place but you couldn't get beyond the screen.
 
I have played for several hours today and am very clear that when you board a ship and there is no fight on deck and you talk to the captian, that results in the excessive crew loss problem descrived above. Every time that sequence occurred there were huge, unjusitified crew losses. There were no execptions.

I just boarded another ship without fighting and my crew went from 95 (or possibly 93) to 6!

The line in LAi_boarding.c

MUST be commented out or removed. This is where my crew got set to 6.

Just to close the loop on this, I also had the crew loss when I barded a ship that struck her colors. Jason: does Hook's fix work for you, in these scenarios......will you try it out ?

The losses are still here, and you are right , thinking back on this it does seemed to be when you board struck ship more than one you fight for, and probably stems from something Waaaayyyy back, when discussing terms with captured Captains.
 
You can board struck ships??? I thought they were just changing their flag to a nation that was on friendly terms with you... didn't know they were surrendering to you to come and board them!

I had a French Galleon strike their colors when I came across a battle at sea between three French merchants and 4 massive pirates. I was amazed when the French ship turned ally on the map, and then proceeded to attack (and fail miserably) the pirate warships with my Lugger.

I can't imagine why a large galleon would surrend to ME... a lowly damaged from storms, half crew lost Lugger (level 2 character no less).
 
The line I said to comment out above works exactly backwards from what it probably should. The boarding crew should be subtracted from the ship crew, but that's not a complete fix.

There are other places in the code where enemy crew is assumed to surrender, and added to your crew. The numbers are all messed up. I'm working on a fix for it now.

been busy and havent been keeping up, but has that pirate crew on nation ships boarding bugs been solved?

Like i board a english ship but get pirate crew, and i board a surrendered ship but get battle, and that the captain is a pirate?
 
I jumped in to a fight between one english frgate and 3 pirate's. I took over one pirate ship and the english had surrendered to the pirate's. I went for the ship trying to keep close to the english ship and took over 30 min's fight this one pirate, was trying to sink it but in end he surrendered to me, so boarded the the pirate ship and had to fight. Loss a lot of crew to so little. The other pirate ship run, so I did not run after it.

But what got me was the english I could not board her which is fair but surely she should have put her english flag back up as I saved her from the pirate in end.
Belive it or not I went back to port repaired up and when I went back to sea, seen she still had a white flag up.

Think this is somethink that need's to be look into.

I just played a lot with the latest patches.

To avoid problem i set off surrender mod (on sea) and set Corpesmode=3.

With these setting I newer encounter problem with crew lost after boarding (but no ship surrender to me without fight).

With Corpesmode=3 I NEVER encounter CTD during fight.

Just few problem to report:

1) Shipyard in San Martin Dutch's town has some problem, after sell or repair ship always have a CTD.

2) The windrose is still swapped compared to the interface map.

3) The Antiguamap.tga.tx (attigua loading screen) seems to be missed.

4) When I escorted a ship if this runs out of rum or wheat then my rum and wheat expired too fast.

<b>Jason</b>: first off, I found the crew losses way back when we just finished testing and finding CTD's that plagued us at the time. But YOU did not identify those right away because they were not apparent at level 35 which you start at. These are crippling to a brand new game with @60 crew members and a half leaky, French Shot up, almost sinking, lugger, trying to find his way to Redmond without hitting storm.......at this point in time Im almost ready to go way back to build 12, to find and enjoyable game, so any attempt at fix "would be most welcome"

LJS: Jason's right, we need a more comprehensive fix. But commenting out that line doesn't seem to hurt, and may do much good. At worst you'll end up with no crew losses from boarding.

I haven't seen any reference to the corpse mod in the boarding casualty code, but I'll keep an eye out.

Ah.. so they've had problems with the nations being generated wrong for a long time, eh? I'm not surprised at all. And it's not impossible this is a cause of some CTD's people are experiencing.

Can ANYONE tell me why the nation gets set to -1, ON PURPOSE, then not changed before it's used as an index into an array? What does the -1 mean anyway?

I've changed a boatload of code so that nation -1 doesn't end up possibly corrupting memory somewhere. But since I have no idea what it's supposed to be doing, it's better that Pieter doesn't publish those changes just yet.

Those differences aren't bugs. People who created new flags used currently in PotC modified file with textures for flags on masts but didn't bother to finish their work and, in contrary to my advices, left old pictures in the interfaces and in spyglass. I plan to correct this when I get time, however I'd prefer to make my own mods instead of finishing others work...

Now this is a bit funny.

With new update and start new game.
I come out of oxbury at start of new game as english but with portugal flag on and there was 3 pirate's, With out shooting and with fort shooting the pirate ship.
1 pirate ship went down to the fort gun's, so I pick up stuff and crew from the shipwrack. I then boarded the other pirate ship took easy. So now have a new ship to my fleet.
Then when back on my ship I got borading symbol come up so boraded ship thinking it was the french ship that put her white falg up, the capatin had a go at me for boraded a portugal ship with me flying a portugal flag and it turn's out it was my own ship I all ready took. So I boraded the same ship two time,s. Did not happen to me before new update.

This is just a comment that I think a bit funny.

I found out what the problem is with this, but not how to fix it yet.

mchr.ship.crew.quantity is invalid during the boarding process, so the programmer is using it for something else. This is generally thought to be poor engineering practice, and the programmer should have used a different variable to record whatever it was being recorded.

Normally, after a boarding action the crew quantity will be set to the proper number by another function call. But apparently this function isn't getting called if the enemy ship surrenders.

I think we have a handle on fixing the problem now. Just give it time.

I found this to be a bit humorous. It's from my compile log, with comments added by me.

This is a bug this one.
I am in a fight I hit O to search dead body and for some reason the guy who is not dead, die's as it seem's I am searching his body, I am then also able to search his then dead body after. So I search his body 2 time's one alive and one dead.
Any fix's you guy's tell us to put right, I wont as I wait for next patch in hope it's sorted lolz

With these setting I newer encounter problem with crew lost after boarding (but no ship surrender to me without fight).

Sorry for the misunderstood, I would say that with Corpesmode=3 I avoid CTD during fight (but with this set there are some know problem in quest that a event is triggered when a quest actor die).
And with SURR_GLOBAL_SCL=0 (in the InternalSettings.h) I have disable ship surrender mod (without fight) to avoid crew loose bug.

PS.
I notice that in Douwesen the women standing in front of the Governor's Residence have missed their dialog (not response at all) so I can't start "Strange thing happened in the archipelago" quest.

Here is a new bug.

I am unable to change colors by talking to an officer. This is occuring on the way to FDF to take the ammo. You can't get in unless you are flying French colours and I have been unable to either on my ship or on land.

This is new. I have been able to change colors at will since that feature was added.
